When Devi said "Wow it's so weird, I feel like I've grown with them." That feeling only gets 5 times bigger when you're in the 900s of episodes like me. The final saga starts around 1060. We have about 3 years or so before One Piece ends. So like 200 chapters left.

@@dariusfafoutakis8021 When Oda say there is 3-4years that is what he has currently brain storm to finish the story. You need to factor in a year or 2 to those years because Oda as he write each arc he does research and adds to the story when he goes on breaks.

Jackie is a rock, man I cried like crazy during Robin's backstory, and later, when the merry was destroyed. I think Devi is actually an emotion vampire that steals all of his sadness 🤔 it explains why it's so easy for her to cry and literally impossible for him to tear up lol. They make a great pair for reactions.

I recall that the other moment that made Oda cry uncontrollably when drawing was in Alabasta, not the scene you're probably thinking of actually... It was when Vivi was trying to stop the charging revolutionary army and becomes concealed by the cloud of dust and her pleas for them to stop are drowned out. Apparently the agony she felt trying to stop a civil war between the people she loved so much hit him very hard.

"It's just a ship!" -- I said the same thing so many years ago now while I couldn't see through all the tears coming down. But it was far more than that, too, wasn't it? It was part of the crew, and also home for so many years. ❤

I think the merry is also symbolic of the passing of time and the melancholy of it. Thats why I find it so sad. The crew is going to continue this journey and friends and faces will continue to pass by and fade away.

Merry's funeral never ceases to touch me, even all these years later. Her apology is what especially gets me.... 😢

No matter how many times i watch this arc this scene always get's me.

There are 4 stages to the emotions in this scene. Before Burning; Burning Montage; Gomene; I was happy.

I bawled by eyes out when I first saw this episode. And I still tear up/ cry a little to this day when I watch it.

It can also be seen that the moment Iceberg's ship arrived, Merry knows it's time. It's alright for her to handover the Strawhats to them. If they weren't there, I believe Merry would have pushed as far as she could. Also Iceberg fixing Merry, he also knows that's the last of her, hence he adamantly wants to sail off while aqua laguna is ongoing.

If we didn't see him cry with this chapter, we won't see him cry with anything confirmed. 👒

Well I’ve passed my psychopath test for the day. Tears were shed. A boat was sunk. She retired to do the Merry Springer Show, with adulterous pirates.

It's just like what you said, that Merry wanted to make sure they are safe. Therefore she tough it out all the way until they see the Galley-la ship, where she can be sure that they will be safe. That's when she's finally able to let herself break 😢

The artwork, shading, and style in this episode is impeccable and actually might be my favorite until some of the newer ones 700 episodes later. They really made sure everyone and everything looked great. Proper sendoff for one of the crew! 17:01 I bet for a lot of us, we literally did grow up with the characters over the past 25 years!

Yes!! When you watch one piece for this long, it feels like we are really there together with the characters!! I've been watching/reading One Piece for 12 years now, it's like i'm friends with Luffy and his crew :)

This is the episode where you discover just how deeply you've become invested in the story of Luffy and the Straw Hats journey. When saying goodbye to a ship, an animated ship TV ship, can hit you in the feels harder than most prime time live action television series and movies have in the last few decades. A lot of people see animation as "kids shows" and don't understand how animation can tell stories that could never be done with traditional film and television. It's all "realistic CGI" and "professional actors on set", which means absolutely nothing if the writing is rehashed garbage, the actors are divas, and the director is an egotistical jackass. Oda is world class and has been telling this story for decades. If you tried to get a traditional or hollywood script writer in his spot, the show would have failed miserably. Oda is forever the GOAT of our generations.

This was such a emotional episode. Even the author of One Piece when he was writing this he was crying too.
