in my experience what i recommend is: -Try every character. -Once you get a team, stick to them. -Don't leave them, even low tiers can win tourneys. -If you change your team, you'll change your play style. -Learn and master one combo, you don't need to try another during a match. -Train hard, play smart.

People should play the characters they wanna play, not the ones only you like.

Think you should try to play as many characters as possible to a decent level (so you know what they can do and some of their tricks) Then stick to 2 (or more) characters you like and train with them - this game makes it easier to learn multiple characters

But i like playing a wide variety of characters it's what i do. Playing the same team over and over and over and over gets boring fast

My mini guide to instantly improving at cross tag 1. Stop learning combos before developing strats to open people up/neutral in general. Practice your anti-airs, learn the range of your normals, figure out how to use your assists to make openings or at least keep pressure going if blocked. I fight so many people who just run up to me and get whooped. Stop doing it. 2. UNDERSTAND TURNS. If you've been knocked down understand that IT IS NOT YOUR TURN TO PUSH BUTTONS. You have a few options, block, throw tech if you fight someone who likes to throw after a knockdown (I do) or jump back/air block but don't do this against grapplers. If your happy to spend a bar, push block on wake up and you're safe/back at neutral. You can even throw a projectile after as more often then not they'll whiff a normal too. Lastly you can DP in a pinch but if you do it too much expect to lose 50% or more as it will get punished. Edit: Also if you're on the offense and you score a knockdown, practice hitting people the moment they wake up (feet land on the floor after the little flip). Good players will block and that's fine but you'll destroy people who don't understand turns for this. If they keep blocking on wake up, practice timing a throw on wake up and learn a decent follow up. I play Linne, someone jumps at me, I catch them with my 5B and go into a basic combo. I then throw on wake up and get another combo, maybe finish it with a super. BOOM, 80% of their life gone in two small sequences. 3. If you play online, sacrifice damage. Yes that leet combo you worked on may be awesome but because of peoples connections it's better to lose 200 damage by using an easier combo then lose 800+ by dropping the hard frame link ones. I never drop a combo offline but no matter how good I am, online it happens. 4. STOP RAW TAGGING. Do it in a combo (Push D after calling in your assist, practice it), or get a knockdown via a sweep or certain projectile and then tag. If you character is under pressure, your blocking and you need to get them out, just push block and then instantly tag. It's not completely safe but you won't eat a giant combo this way maybe a projectile at worst. TLDR: Master the basics before mastering the cool shit.

A couple major points: Keep Calm and Save your replays. This will help you at any level. By saving your replays, you and other players can analyze the matches you have, and this is helpful for avoiding and adapting your playstyles in the future. Keeping calm allows you to think on your toes and handle frustrating situations. An example, a few days ago, I was fighting a player in Dbfz who I was horribly outmatched against, but i intended to find ways around his defense and start my offense. But as the matches progressed I felt myself getting impatient, antsy and frustrated with kid buu and proceeded to play a bit more recklessly, which while it payed off in some aspects, failed in the long run. At the time I was beyond pissed and frustrated, however, going back over that video in a calmer state and mindset, I saw every wrong move I made and I saw all the gaps and openings I didnt see while playing before due to my frustrated and exasperated state of being at the time. Biggest tip is getting used to losing, try to learn something about your own and your opponent’s playstyles every match. It could take ten, it could take 100 matches, but as long as you are learning and applying what you have learned, you’ll see yourself improve in due time.

JonX Fc YES!! I love everything about this because it teaches you when and how to adapt, for example I was playing DBFZ the other day and i was running 21, Black, Vegeta (played these since launch excluding 21) and I mopped this guy 2 games straight by just bulldozing him with 21 in neutral and mixups, this guys 16 went down easy in the first 2 games, then outta nowhere this 16 gave me nothing but issues for the next 2 games, first to 3 in ranked match so I decide to change to black as soon as I could (whilst remaining safe) because I realised that 16 was not good for my 21, I wouldn’t have noticed this had it not been from me previously doing well vs 16 with black, admitting you’re wrong and make mistakes can be difficult but I love losing because you learn so much, massive rant, tldr watch your own footage!😂

Defend -> counterattack and get close when you confirm an assistant hit or special from far. That's basically it against high ranged characters. And many attacks from Nu don't hit close to her and leave her open so forget fear and dash. Also, because of this, many Nu players love to use reversal when you are close to them so bait it. Carmine is kinda annoying to fight because he is versatile. You need to have a good grasp of yours team's options and adapt to the opponent playstyle to be able to win.

I'm not used to full screen lows and normals that are fast (looking at you Blake) and when i have frame advantage. I want to get good at this game, but i will probably need to actually look at frame data to "get it".

Soooo, BB Chronophantasma was the very first fighting game I enjoyed and therefore played more than a few days (actually played BBCP and BBCF every day for like 3-4 months just because of how awesome it felt) and I ended up playing a lot of Ragna and Terumi (rip best snek boi), I never got any good at netplay but still had quite alot of fun because I felt like I was at least a bit competent at that game. Soo is it weird that I find BBTAG, which is the most simplified game of the series to be the one I suck the most ass at? I really can't seem to be doing any good at it or progressing whatsoever, just can't really adapt to the tag mechanics... Anyways sorry for the wall of text and I just wanna ask if there are any tips for changing my mindset on how to play this game other than just take the loss as an opportunity to learn, thnx. P.S. will take Koe's advice to mind tho, thank you for this video man!

Well I would say play the team you like, try to remember using the assist every now and then and Burst your way out of Trouble. Since Burst is really good in this game and only countered by advanced player. And go for safe combos rather than the optimal ones, since difficult combos are not crazy rewarding in this game.

  • @nikobelic36

Thank you! I realized just how good the burst is and am trying to use assists moderately (not spamming but also not forgetting about it). I have been playing Ragna with Orie lately and have been really enjoying that team and while I feel fairly capable at executing combos with each character individually I still struggle to extend combos with assists. That being said I have been playing a lot and on the training mode and I am feeling a bit more confortable with it. Thanks again for the helpful reply.

I really try to get "better" in this game as I really do like this game but...never works. Never works out for me in any 2d fighting game. Doesn't help that I can't stand this game's online "lobby" system. I just want to fight, not socialize in a hub as chibi characters to get a fight started...This is by far my favorite 2d fighter but it still feels like this will be a "hop on every week or 2 to do some Vs AI" scenario.
