This is really good, very informative, slightly laid back and not too long to become boring. I would love to see more of these in the future. I really got a lot out of this as someone who uses Es a lot since I first started playing her in Central Friction

Thanks a bunch for the incredibly informative video, I recently picked up Es as a partner for Makoto cause i need some range in my life. BBTag is my first real experience diving into fighting games so I'm sure this will be priceless for me!

My props to you! Incredibly high quality, both sets of input description for newcomers to anime, and extremely informative on the key points of a character while still enouraaging an individuals own playstyle! Love this so much!

This is some really fantastic stuff. I was experimenting with characters to find my perfect team and ES's tools and playstyle really clicked with me. This guide really helped understanding the fundamentals of the character. I'm really glad you cover her neutral and oki setups as well, since those are just as important as being able to perform optimal combos. Keep up the great work!

I’m loving Es her combos are extremely easy to execute compared to Rachel and I was able to consistently pull off every combo in the vid except for the tag one I need to work on tag combos more in general but not until I am able to pull off optimal combos on Rachel consistently and I go through the tactics mode some more

This is a great overview. I'm new at BBTag, but I feel pretty sure I'm gonna be using Weiss - I'm uncertain who to pair with her as she's also a well-rounded character with plenty of fun tools. Would a Weiss/Es team work as an incredibly flexible duo?

One thing I found that was neat, but not game breaking. Crest Arts activate almost exactly when Es is able to act, so this can be done: 5BB>IAD Just something I found while training, I wonder if it’s useful for combos.

I may as well mention that Es' 5B can cause your combo to drop on certain characters (Linne) in the corner, as on smaller characters the 5B glyph will whiff on their knockdown. This leads to combos like 5BB>214A>5AAA>5B>214[B] to drop after the 5B

Yup I've noticed that for a while didn't know why, assumed it was the starter. Then realized it was Linne since I just did a long set with a Linne. I'm not sure of an alternative route as of right now. I know there are some IAD jC routes out there after 5BB somewhere on twitter

the 5B indeed drop on some chars, in this case, you can do 5B>236A. It's not optimal, but at least you get 300 damages more than just by dropping at 5B. The other route I found is to call assist so it lands right after 5B to allow you to 214[B] into the follow up combo. I team with Linne and what I have is : 5BB>214A>5AAA>(5B-5P)>214[B]>5AA>2C>214C~C the 5B and 5P should be pressed roughly at the same time (5P can be a bitafter 5B) with Linne.

ironer100 so, basically, this is notation for combos. It represents the directions you have to input using the NumPad of a keyboard, so you have : 5 : neutral 4: back 6: forward 2: down 1: down backward 3: down forward Usually we don’t use 7,8,9 because it’s referred as J for jumping. For the rest of the convention, it’s the buttons : A: light attack B: heavy attack C: special D: Tag Switch P: Partner assist A letter used with brackets ([B] for example) means you have to hold the key. Now with that in mind, you combine the two 5AA means two times A in neutral position 2B means down B etc.. The movements (like 214C) means quarter circle backwards (Sometimes noted as QCB) The last thing is to understand the full notation of a combo 5AAA>2C means you do 3 times A and cancel it into a 2C. Most moves can be canceled in this game, you just need to figure out how. Some move, for example if you do 5AAAA with Es (smart combo 1), you cannot cancel the last move (the 4th A). One last thing is things like 241C~C. Some attacks have additional attacks which are not considered as cancels, they are noted like this. To conclude, once you know this notation it’s going to be easy to read combos. You can then go to training room to figure out timings for them. Don’t focus too much on combos at first, the neutral game is more important to start with.

I figured out a variation on the (5B-5P) route that leads to consistent Oki: 5BB>214A>5AAA>(5B-5P)>5BB>jc.>jB>jC(whiff) Also, there are certain scenarios where you wont have an assist available (ex. 5AAA>2C>214C~C>5P), which prevents the (5B-5P) route from working. In those cases, simplify the route: 5AAA>2C>214C~C>5P>5AAA>2B>jc.>jB>jC(whiff)

Hey can you make a guide on hyde? Its the character i use and I dont think his 5A is very useful at mid-long range and his 5B is a little slow so im thinking if using 5A or not Im new to this game and I dont know if startup is more important than range Things like that

I'd love to cover more characters but I do this on the weekends as a hobby. So to find the time to actually play AND edit videos is what wouldn't allow me to just pump out videos. he uses number pad notations which work on controller too. look at the number pad on your keyboard, each number represents the direction you should hold the directional pad, so 1 = down, left, 2 = down, etc etc. the letters represent attack button with A = Light, B = Medium, C = Heavy (i don't know the controller defaults for each of these attacks or even what controller you're using). If this doesn't make sense just look up "number pad notation" on youtube and you should find some guides.

That’s good and all but any tips on how to fight against Es? I run Orie/Gordeau myself, and Es is the only character I keep being in trouble with 🤔

That's interesting. It really depends on the player. Some Es players are hyper aggressive and some zone all day. You gotta find what it is that's hitting you about her. Gordeau definitely out ranges her, and Orie isn't too bad either. The only time I think you should have problems with Es is if she's zoning, in which case you would have to inch your way in. I recommend playing her a bit to understand her because really she's pretty straight forward compared to other characters

I think he meant play with her yourself (on your team). That'll show you what she can do in certain situations, and where her limitations are. It's what I usually do if my main has an issue with a particular character.

TheOTKGameplay I will be working on more character guides sooner than later. It’s something I’m ramping up the resources for. I like to be informed about what I say rather than just saying it so it takes time to learn the characters. With Es and Rachel I had 800+ matches. So yeah I can’t promise any one specific but I am taking the time to learn 2 new characters every week and we’ll see who sticks

It's short for Okizeme, I forget the actual meaning of the word, but it's become synonymous with meaning Wake-up game. Basically it describes the situation of what you do after you knock your opponent down. Characters with strong Oki are like Es where they have a means of locking you down at that stage to continue their assault. Characters with weak oki tend to be ones that don't have as many options to continue after a knockdown, and as a result have neutral reset on them after a wake-up

It's hard for me to find the time to make good videos. I could make really basic barebone videos for characters but I'd prefer a good well thought guide, which takes time and I only do this on the weekends :/.

you should check twitter. theres a way to time an assist call after j.c without using any assist bar. this assuming you hve an assist with good blockstun, means it beats pushblock as far as i can tell

I feel dumb asking this but why are the attacks described by a number followed by a letter? I just can’t seem to figure out why one is a 5 and one is a 2 etc.

Eden Shorrocks it has to do with the number pad on your keyboard. It's a universal way of notating directions. So 2 is down. 5 in neutral. 6 is forward. 4 is back. 8 is up. Then 1, 3, 7, 9 are diagonal buttons. So if you're ever confused just look at your number pad on the keyboard! As for the letters they're representing light medium and heavy attacks. So A is light, B is medium, C is heavy. So put the two together and you'll get 5B for standing medium. Or 2C for crouching heavy. A chain of numbers is a motion, so 236A is quarter circle forward Light
