BBTAG - Hyde Kido Guide [Combos, Blockstrings, Mixups, Safejumps, Punishes]

Ойындар

In-depth Character Guide for Hyde Kido (with Narukami Assist) in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle featuring Combos[basic to kind of advanced], Blockstrings, Mixups, Safejumps & Punishes.
This video doesn't contain Neutral play or gameplan, but for most cases, use the range on Hyde's 5B to control spacing. Make use of your assist and Hyde's projectiles if they are at long range.
If you land a hit, do a combo with a safe-jump or high/low starter on oppponents wakeup. If they block, do the blockstring stuff.
Relatively speaking, Hyde's neutral game is quite a bit of work, but his anti-airing abilities are incredible. If you ever see the opponent flapping around in the sky, be sure to shut them down with 2B. Just remember to always use 2A after 2B when anti-airing.
Doing so makes the anti-air attempt safe if guarded, but it also resets his combo route if the anti-air connects. This means you'll be able to use 2B again in the combo.
Some other good assists that work with Hyde are Jin, Ruby and Orie. Hyde doesn't necessarily rely on his assist outside of blockstring pressure and only really needs someone that can do a decent OTG (Off the Ground pickup).
But his mixup is lackluster without an assist (especially at max 5B range) so be sure to manage you assist gauge and HP accordingly.
This video has a lot of stuff in it, so it may be a bit jarring to watch as if its a CMV. But I feel like it can be very helpful to new Hyde players learning the character if you watch it at a slow pace and take in everything showcased.
With that being said, this video isn't a compilations of optimized things and isn't the be-all-end-all video of Hyde tech. This is just my own case study on the character and exploring a lot of stuff until I feel as if I have a good grasp of him.
Because this video took so long to make, I didn't have time to test everything on every single character. Keep that in mind.
Below is some fighting game words and vocabulary that I may use and never define. This will be helpful to new players of the genre:
Fighting Game terminology:
sj = Super Jump
iad = Instant Air Dash, performed by pressing 9,6 or Jump+A+B
Mixup = making the opponent guess between High, low, throw or crossup
Crossup = attacking from behind the opponent. Because back is block, if you jump over someone who is blocking, they will be walking towards you.
Neutral = midscreen game when either player is trying to get a hit on there other.
Oki/Okizeme = wakeup game, pressing opponents as they wakeup.
Resets = Using sketchy oki to catch the opponent off guard.
Setplay = When you use a cycle of mixups, oki and combos to make it extremely hard for the opponent to do anything other than block and get hit, or take risks to escape.
DP = Dragon Punch or Reversal Action in BBTAG, a move with fast startup and invul, but has long punishable recovery.
Anti-air = Using a move that is invul to head attribute to punish jump-ins
Punish = reacting with a full combo to a risky move by opponent
Blockstring = combos on block, includes mixups or a safe path back to neutral play.
OTG = Off the ground pickup. Mostly refers to hard knockdowns
Hitstun decay = the about of 'combo time' each hit in a combo generates. Generally, as combos go on, the about of stun each hit grants becomes less and less. This is hitstun decay.
....(Just between you and me, you have no idea how happy I am that I was able to sneak in a cover from my favorite band.)

Hello there, this is an incredibly amazing video, any chance you could do another one of this with other characters?

Hyde is VERY range specific in his routes. At max range 5B where most of his neutral confirms come from, his doesn't really have a lot of route options and needs an assist to extend the combo from that route. He really shine at close range 5B (ridiculously hard to land outside of punishes because of its slow startup) and hes also really good at the range where just the tip of 2C will hit after 5B. Doesn't really help that his most damaging route that I found is character specific (~_~) After doing this in-depth study on him, I'm pretty close to dropping my boy Hyde for someone with better mixup. Hakumen or Blake are looking pretty nice right now...

I actually scrapped the video, but the idea was to end a long combo in 236A.A or something that lets them tech in the air, then input 6P > A+D. Then you pick them up after the ice blade. It only works in the corner and doesn't work on air neutral techs though.

Hi, I'm planning to pick this up when I get my PS4 back; I'm a newcomer to fighting games, having only played a bit of P4AU and Tekken 7. Why do you say to use 2A after 5B? Is it a timing thing? I really like how this guide is structured. Very good explanations. Thanks

Using 2A after 2B makes the anti-air attempt safe. It also resets his combo routes so you're able to use 2B again in the combo/blockstring that comes off the anti-air.

Am I right in assuming 236B~236B is Hyde's best knockdown? In that case, wouldn't 2A>2C>2B>jc j.B>214BBB>?P>5BBB>236B~236B (I use Ruby 5P) be better at 1:47? Does more damage too, 5457.

Off topic question but, how do you fight against waldstein? Or, to clarify, how do I beat people who abuse his range and grabs (people who just throw out attacks because they out range alot, then once you're blocking they throw out an ult because both of walds ults grab you and have insane range)

Jump w Since you can't grab people in the air, you must always be ready to jump when you suspect a grab is coming.

What're the pros of using the Rekka loop combos vs just using the jCx3 combos to keep it simple?

  • @bkbrent

    @bkbrent

In most cases, Hyde can only do the jC loops off a close-ish starter or an anti air whereas the delayed Vacant Shift combos are a little more versatile but more harder to do.

That one is a little hard to explain because I don't actually understand how it works myself (^_^;) I did it by holding down D while Narukami is out. (This is because the change will happen when you negative edge/release the D button) Then when its time to DP, I released D and immediately pressed A+D right after. I'm a stick player though and I don't use macros there might be an extremely slight delay in the time I press A+D together. Its also possible to do the change without holding D and just pressing D> D+P but it feels like the interval is ridiculously small.

Great guide, but I'm pretty sure this is where I take a break from bbtag. I've just been seeing WAY too many people using Hyde(how ironic) with Rangna or Orie that it's making the game stale, just fighting the exact same pairs basically every time I try to play, every new person playing the same as the last, I'm actually starting to WANT to find more Nu players, just to get away from Hyde. DLC 4 is rumored to come out in 9 days, so hopefully I will be able to have fun on this game again soon, so I'll be practicing some more of the combos you post, trying to better myself, so until then, keep on making amazing guides and videos.

This game had me so hyped before it launched, coming from being a Guilty Gear, BlazBlue and Persona fan. I even was interested in UnderNight because it was made by the people who made Melty Blood...the gameplay is so clunky and slow. I was hoping some shit changed now that people got more familiar like FighterZ but it still looks the same.
