    I don't really agree, but post-punk is a tricky label. I love The Smiths but I don't think of that as post-punk in the slightest. It's only 'post-punk' in the sense that it was released after punk hit the mainstream. To me, something like early Nick Cave is post-punk. Lots of edge and grit, but not following the punk music formula.

  • @nopeoppeln

    11 ай бұрын

    @@Potato-yd3hv Posledniy Geroy, a re-collection album, is their absolute magnum opus. It's mostly songs from their previous album and EVERYTHING is better. the ambience, the production, the instrumentals which are way more upbeat, Tsoi's voice which is much more passionate but still very moody, less "boring" or "uninspiring" you can say, emotional and the lyrics usually are incredible, but that feature comes from their last album, because nearly all of the songs here are from there and ALL songs (except i'd say for Vojna maybe but both versions are great) are so much better than on Gruppa Krovi. also, you might say that the vocals here can sometimes be a bit annoying compared to very moody and deep sound of Tsoi there, but it feels so much more inspiring and passionate. it's unbelievably enjoyable, especially during a rainy night. it's a strong 9 to a 10 if I were Melon and Gruppa Krovi is a decent to strong 9

  • @Potato-yd3hv

    @Potato-yd3hv

    11 ай бұрын

    @@nopeoppeln Oh, I agree with you that Posledniy Geroy is 100x better than the Gruppa Krovi album. I remember not understanding the hype around songs like Gruppa Krovi and Spokoynaya Noch until I heard the Posledniy Geroy versions and it clicked for me. Tsoi's voice is so much more cold and Kasparyan's guitar is so much prominent, it hits you like a truck. I remember having an argument with some weirdo on a Kino Discord server who insisted that Gruppa Krovi's production was better because... there was a slightly newer synth, apparently. To each their own, but Posledniy Geroy's guitar just hits so hard and it feels so much cold in terms of ambience.

    @@unknown6390 It's also amusing that some of these are pretty tenuous - I wouldn't really consider Talking Heads or The Smiths to be post-punk -- although I admit there's an argument to be made for the albums she mentions -- picking Pornography over Three Imaginary Boys by The Cure when the latter fits so neatly into the post-punk niche and then missing out giants of the genre like The Fall, Wire, Magazine, Gang of Four etc... It begs the question; what is this person smoking (and where can I get some?)

    The safe choice, but no. Pornography is their best album. It’s much more tight and consistent and has fully leans into the despair and darkness and hatred and pessimism, which is what I want.

    _'Disintegration'_ is basically when normies discovered The Cure on MTV and thought _'Lovesong'_ and _'Pictures Of You'_ were written for them. Had those songs *NOT* been in there? That album wouldn't have been so big and all the normies that were suddenly "Cure fans" [lol] would simply look at them as a "freak band" with guys who dress in black, wear makeup and have crazy big hair, just like they did prior to that album. Vanilla... Nothing beats the true dark trilogy of _'Seventeen Seconds', 'Faith'_ and _'Pornography'._

    @@curly_wyn definitely not. Disintegration isn’t only more consistent. But it fuses their previous gloomy depressing sounds and introduces a cold but transcendent fresh sound that’s unrivaled. And the songwriting is an entire step up as well. Pornography is great but Disintegration is their masterpiece.

    @@RiverOfBlacklights no, Disintegration is their best. Being a contrarian is worse than being a normies. And a normie isn’t an issue. An contrarian is.

    Am I retarded or something but I swear Love will tear us apart isn’t on any album? Or does any recording count as an album? Cus if so then wouldn’t most lists consist of purely singles?
