Thing about that is that Astrotrain is a JNR D51, same as the Japanese engine Hiro, while Thomas is an E2, so really he should've been called Hiro. You now have permission to roast me for this-

"Why is he named Thomas?"*Turns into a train*"....well played"

The figure should have been named Hiro due to the fact that Thomas and Friends has a character that is the same locomotive class that Astrotrain had in G1 named Hiro. If the Transformers existed in T&F, Astrotrain would have scanned Hiro, explaining why Astrotrain’s locomotive mode is in standard gauge like Thomas and the trains in the USA instead of Kape gauge a size that is more in scale with Narrow Gauge locomotives like Scarloey and Peter Sam from T&F.

I remember Transformers The Movie and wonder how in the hell Devastator and the decepticons fit inside of his hull. It’s still a great tv series and a good family movie better than what they’re showing these days 😔🙄

Believe it or not...I actually stumbled upon a animation of Thomas as a Transformer when I was younger. From memory, it was something a father did for his son, and it had Thomas as “Opthomas Prime” (Get it...Op-THOMAS Prime.) and Spencer as “Megatrain”. (If I find it, I’ll link to it in a reply to this comment.)

I like the style of the stand that can turn into a train track for the train mode

Thomas is a Decepticon who lives in a big city on the planet of Cybertron. He's a cheeky little robot, with eight big wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a long cylindrical boiler, three large rocket engines, and a large pair of wings.

Out of all the crazy third party names they could have picked, they chose Thomas

Even though THOMAS is a play on the educational kids show, I could easily imagine him being given a name like this in the Japanese Headmasters English dub series...after all, they called Blaster, Jazz, and Blurr names like BILLY, MARSHALL, and WALLY.

This is the most cartoon-accurate Astrotrain I've seen so far, and it looks awesome.

you dont need to flex the plastic on his backpack, there's a part on his backpack that allows it to slide in and down to lock it in, you need to do it before you tab his head in, angle the 2 parts beside his head inwards and put the backpack in at an angle then close it all at once (kind of hard to explain)

I never realized that Astrotrain is a Really Useful Engine

Just got mine today!! I didn't think he would be that HEAVY!!

My favourite character from Thomas and the Decepticons finally got a toy.

I have to say, even with the minor issues, he’s the best looking Astrotrain in all three modes I’ve seen to date.

usually in triple changers one mode suffers for the other 2, not this time!

When u transform it into a train u can raised the hand covers & u would have some were to put your guns & it would look cool too

I just love that his name is Thomas 😆 3-D puzzles: “We challenge you to build us!” Masterpiece Triple-changers: “Hold my energon”

That shuttle mode is the first time I’ve seen any transformer and immediately thought “Damn, that looks perfect.”

With all of the molded details in train mode, it sure looks "riveting"!🤣 I'll see myself out.

I have the reissue, and can confirm that FT has changed the screws from threaded ones to non-threaded ones (beginning at 25:10). It makes moving those pieces so much easier.

Love the "Crazy Train" reference. 🤘

This Astrotrain is smooth I love it plus love how they choose the transclearnt yellow for the window

People always say triple changers can never look good in all modes, it is a thing that is just something we have to deal with. I think this figure shows us that it can be done.

Must say I am impressed how they were able to engineer linking the wheels like that so that they all connect and roll in sync like that!! Hope you're recovering from your injury, EmGo! Not too many reviewers would willingly injure themselves trying to transform a stubborn joint like that. :-)

The figure should have the name Hiro instead of Thomas because Thomas the Tank Engine is a London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway E2 class locomotive which Astrotrain never transformed into. Astrotrain transforms into a JNR D51 locomotive in G1 which this figure replicates and has a Thomas and Friends with the same locomotive basis, Hiro.

I think he looks good next to DX9 Blitzwing, a little smaller than the DX9 Astrotrain, but a much better shuttle mode and more cartoon accurate for bot mode. He’s probably the one for me.

I’m very happy you gotten yourself a copy emgo cause this representation of Astro train by Fanstoys is amazing when I’ve gotten mines I was blown away. Enjoy my friend cause this is a amazing masterpiece.

This is my grail. One day when the mainline stops being awesome again, and I finish my MP Stunticons, I'll try and find one of these perfect beauties. He is just absolutely delicious.

I like how Astrotrain is more noticed by his train mode than his jet mode. It's hilarious seeing that the Transformers Fans are also Railfans.

Thanks a ton for this video in particular. I got the ko of this and couldn't figure out how to keep the wings tabbed in in shuttle mode. You said "pull the wings out" when going from shuttle to train, and I realized you have to push the wings in to keep 'em tabbed. The instructions for the ko of this are less than worthless.

Ha Ha for some reason I still expect the collectors card to say "Dino Mode". I always look forward to new reviews from you & Mascot!

Wouldn’t fit better for Diesel 10 to be a Dicepticon rather than Thomas. Diesel 10 wanted Sodor’s steam engines all scrapped in Thomas and the Magic Railroad by destroying Lady to wipe the Magic Railroad from existence.

FT hits that perfect sweet spot between Cartoon Accuracy and Realistic Detail that the official Takara MPs used to have, and I love them for it. If the price for this guy hadn't jumped into the stratosphere right after he dropped I'd pick him up, but alas. And the flight stand transforms too, that's all manner of awesome.

I noticed something. At 25:39 when he was talking about those panels on the midsection of the body, the brackets they're on are backwards. The right one has an L and the left has an R

The train mode is a JNR Class D-51 steam locomotive used by the Japanese imperial army in WW2 and its a 2-8-2 locomotive (number of leading drive and trailing wheels)

Finally going from Train back to Robot and on mine that tricky screw is now a slippery pin. It's a different kind of pain getting that chrome slider to stay still and have everything line up properly...

I missed out on this first run but hoping to catch the re-issue whenever that happens. Love the figure, best Astrotrain so far.

I LOVE it when you just throw the box. Bunch of babies crying over dents and such.

I think he's the best..I fix the screws on his chest by removing the screws and pulling sliding screws now it just slide nice and easy

No matter how many official MPs are made, there will be weirdly named KO versions that rival their transformation engineering.

This figure looks pretty good! Watching the transformation, it seems like the train mode is both taller and longer than the shuttle. Is it? Or am I just reading too far into it 😂
