I grew up in Ostend in the 1980s. I moved away in the mid 1990s. Marvin Gaye was there in Ostend in the very early 1980s. Ostend back then was way different then it was now. It's much cleaner now. You could kind of compare it to how different New York City was in the 1970s and how it looks today only for Ostend it's more on a smaller scale and less extreme. Ostend was kinda a dirty city in the early 80s and now it's a clean and popular coastal tourist destination. Also, it has a kinda nasty Leopold 2 colonial history in its architecture but people don't like to talk about that.
