I had to move "The Captain and Tenille's" concert equipment from LA to Atlantic City and then back to Tahoe. They were pleasant to work with. Tony was almost 6 feet tall which surprised me.

Enjoyed most of their hits, but the ones that really give me the ultimate pleasure are "Song of Joy" and "Butterscotch Castle". The former has one of Toni's best vocals-just beautiful and so uplifting. The latter, a sweet and inviting little tune that's always a treat to give a listen to. RIP Captain D. Best of love and luck, dear Toni. You still have A LOT of fans and admirers out there!

I honestly don't remember hearing anything from or about them after the late 70's. But they sure were big when I graduated high school in 1976. And got married in 1977. It's been 45 years, (or it will be on Dec 17) but I think our first dance was to Love Will Keep Us Together.

We all would love to think that " love will keep us together" and keep our vows " till death do us part" but in reality, it's much different in our golden years. My wife and I are in the medical field and see spouses married for decades leave as they can't deal with the health problems and responsibilities of a chronically ill spouse. It takes a tremendous toll and sacrifice to deal with a dying or ill person 24/7. Sounds like Tenille did her best, however.

Tenille didn't divorce her husband because he was ill. She left him because he was very closed emotionally, and later came to the conclusion he may have had some form of autism.

As a keyboard player myself since i was 10, Daryl was the first keyboard player I remember seeing as a kid on tv in the 70’s playing his organs and electric pianos and Arp synths. I am a life long fan with several of their records and even Tonis rare solo jazz cd.😊

They were known as THE Captain and Tenille. How popular were they? In the late '70s, a friend of my daughter's was named Tenille. But it was her FIRST name, so it was pretty strange. BTW, my daughter, who was about 7 years old, called her "Ten-NEEDLE".

Occasionally with a "The" at the start, but usually not a "The" in their duo crediting on fronts of their album covers. But always her last name should have been spelled Tennille; you misspelled that just like FV did each time.

According to several sources: For the album, the groupie was voiced by Canadian actress Trudy Young whom co-producer Bob Ezrin had worked with in Toronto earlier that year. Her voice-over performance was recorded in one day in August, 1979 at Nimbus Nine Soundstage Studios in Toronto, Canada. According to urban legend Toni Tenille voices the groupie but actually she sang backing vocals on “The Show Must Go On” and “Waiting for the Worms.”

@Joe Moore Toni lives in Prescott Az and recently completed a starring role in the musical Hello Dolly. She’s 82. Daryl passed in 2019.

I just found an interview where she said that for years, she was afraid to disappoint the fans who viewed them as a couple and duo. And till she finally decided to divorce him, because he felt not very loved during the marriage and appreciated. A lot of spouses stick around for many reasons even though they’re wasting their time with that particular person which is sad.

I liked The Captain And Tennille but it is disappointing you didn't get all of the facts right as I often see in your videos. They lived together but were not in love. At least not enough to get married. They only got married because their manager pressured them to because it would help sell records. Toni left him because she is a lesbian and wanted to marry and live with her female lover. Darrell was ill some time before she left him which doesn't make her look too good. She kept her being a lesbian a secret from him and had been seeing her for years. Darrell said after the divorce that he didn't have any idea she was a lesbian.

Daryl had Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. People with this psychological disorder are often emotionally distant and cannot connect with others in an intimate, loving or romantic way that is normal, which means, likely, no "passion" in their relationship. This does not mean they never had sex. But as Toni stated, their 39-year marriage was very emotionally unsatisfying for her.
