Fanatec CSL Load Cell Brake Pedal Review

Ойындар

The CSL Load Cell kit is, arguably an essential upgrade to Fanatec CSL pedals. It provides that all important load cell, which takes braking from the realm of guesswork and replaces it with a healthy dose of control. Fanatec sent me this one to review, but as usual, there were no stipulations about what I can or can't say.

Great vid Chris, bit disappointed in the lower loadcell as I WAS waiting for these to arrive before getting the CSL DD. Then a friend got the T-LCM and started raving about loadcells so I got a set of V3's going reasonably cheap on Ebay, was NOT disappointed one bit... Same friend just got his CSL DD and is singing it's praises (Both of us have T300's). Glad you got the scoop (form my subbed channels at least) for the pedal as well as the wheelbase, cause I voted for you in the Fanatec Poll :)

It takes multiple hours / weeks to get used to. I first switched from G29 to CSL DD, which helped me to get a bit faster or at least more accurate 😂 after LC Kit was available, I ordered it and have been using it for couple of weeks and again I've gained some time, but I still need some practice to master it properly. Don't care about the travel at all, as I know that it's all about preasure. I'm also using racing boots with these as I feel it's more comfortable than with socks 😎

Great summary, and I'm right in the target market too. As someone who's used more advanced pedals, do you think they would benefit from a future performance kit with harder disk replacements? Or with the (relative to hardcore) light maximum load would it not quite work right? Just got to mash F5 on Friday now! That will be my last bit of gear this year, then it's time to save for a csl DD to replace the ancient Logitech DFGT.

I’m not fussed about the loss of resolution of the LC as I’ll be using GT7 any way but I’d need much stronger poly bungs. My current pedal CSL LC is solid and is set to to almost full. I also boxed the throttle and used the clutch as a throttle as the spring is firmer. It looks like the new CSL pedals cannot do this so I’d need to fabricate a firmer throttle using RC suspension struts.

Just be careful if you're a large guy like me. I split one of the 65s quite easily on my CSL Elite LC pedal. Luckily they came with 85 and 95 options to switch up to, and I could use one of the 65s as a replacement for the foam. I think a lack if options on this new set, might cause problems for heavy brakers like me.

@@ChrisHaye there are multiple 3D printed plastics and rubbers available to purchase on eBay for the T-LCM now that essentially move those pedals up a price point. I hope you'll consider ordering some bits to test out the brake pedal without the included metal springs. Along with a bit of kit from 3DRap to improve brake feel, I'm running my T-LCMs at around 75% loadcell capacity, so I just can't imagine how running far less than that would provide adequate pressure. I cant help but feel this move by Fanatec is a step backwards. With things continually progressing; from gear driven bases to DDs, I don't understand why they've done this.

@@ChrisHaye Oh yeah that's a test I would love to see. Since I got on TM ecosystem by buying a used T500 that I got for less than a T300. Those pedals do sound interesting, especially if one compares them to the TC-LM or fitting the T3PA-Pro/T500 Pedals with a Loadcell. I mean the base is good, they are invertible and I'd second @divinasion's Idea, it would be nice to see the mods available for the TC-LM as well as the fanatec Pedals, as IIRC there were some for the old Clubsport elite, like the BBJ Dampers mod. Overall it looks like a nice pedal set, though the only thing I miss is the ability to invert them to a more road car style like with the old T3PA-Pro/T500 Pedals, which with the 3drap Elastomer brake mod are quite nice....although I'd still love to have my gas and clutch spring from the GTEYE's for the G27, as those are a bit weak on the T3PA-Pro/T500 Pedals.

The more travel overall then the more distance you have to play with in the trail braking phase, it could possibly translate to a fraction more control and consistency but i think would be very marginal and depending the type of pedal you like might even be detrimental. I just noticed your comment is a year old so you likely have it well figured out lol.

Than just two days ago, I bought a CSL DD kit that came with the CSL Pedals including the clutch. I left them in their box in case I decide to keep the TLCM and sell them. However, now that the load cell upgrade is released, I wonder if I should get it and sell the TLCM instead. What would be your thoughts? The TLCM have 90kg of force and these ones have 60. However everything else seems to favor the Fanatec. Am I mistaken.

I'm in a similar situation. I have a DD and basic pedals, but also TLCMs. The load cell kit would've been an instabuy a few months ago, but it very much seems a lateral move rather than an up/downgrade vs. the TLCM. In the end, I'll probably buy this piece of kit if it allows sims to better recognize multiple devices - a CSL base/wheel and TLCM pedals aren't something sims are always fans of. Can anyone with Fanatec experience confirm that they are seen as one or two devices?

Great video in terms of quality camera work, sound and presentation Chris. In my opinion, the CSL Elite Pedals that I have just sold were probably the last fanatec product I will buy. I understand they were the elite however I just think fanatec are in for the profit above quality and customer experience currently. Take their CSL DD, the proper power pack is extra. Take the pedals in your video, they are cheap but probably same price as their predecessors. They look cheap though, the plastic pedal faces urghhh! Taking away the extra elastomers but then charging extra for a tuning kit when in reality its not a tuning kit but better pedal faces that should have been included already. Nonetheless good video Chris. But fanatec, no thanks.

I agree with what you said mostly. It's this approach that makes you feel trapped in their ecosystem because you are so heavily invested. The booster kit is a slap to the face, this load cell upgrade costing more than the base pedal set is insulting and there have been other examples similar to this as well. You can't argue that they aren't making among the best quality stuff in this lower/middle price range though... I was invested deep into Fanatec when I first started sim racing more seriously. I have owned the PS4 bundle DD1, csl DD, CSL elite wheelbase, csl elite pedals, V3 pedals, magnetic paddle shifter, hydraulic brake kit, podium hub, bmw gt2 wheel, v1.5 handbrake, and V1.5 shifter. I sold everything except for my CSL DD and V3 pedals and the V3's might be on the chopping block. They really lock you in mentally especially on console. They have a great marketing dept. and design team but customer service and transparency are not top on their list.

I haven’t had my fanatec stuff for long but I found the csl pedals to be very good and definitely higher quality than my past g29 pedals, I have also had less problems as my g29 ones would get dirt in them and glitch however I have not had the problem with the csl ones. Also about the power pack I think it is definitely overpriced but actually quite clever because what I think they are doing is charging a low price for the wheelbase with 5 nm and a high price for the 8 nm meaning the product is more accessible for those with a smaller budget and while making up for the lost profit from the 8nm power pack

I am not saying 12 bits is not enough but you need to account for the losses. That include deadzones and the configration when you use less than 60kg. That makes the usefull resolution around 9 and not 12 bits. For this reason, 16 gives a high safety margin.

Great video as always Chris. Must say im minorly dissapointed here by the load cell offering when compared with the csl elite lc that was just discontinued. Would you recommend someone getting this loadcell option if they already have the base version of the csl pedals or do you think its worth the cost to jump to either csw 3.0s or heusinkwelds?

  • @ChrisHaye

    @ChrisHaye

    2 жыл бұрын

Something I hadn’t really considered is that the load cell placement in the old pedal was on the pedal side, so given the mechanical advantage at work in that configuration I have no idea whether those two load cell values are comparable. The CSw 3.0 is still my favourite mid range pedal set, but I think these are priced about right for the value proposition. In fact all three pedal sets you mentioned are. I’m using the Heusinkveld sprints on my main rig, and they’re fantastic. In short, I think you get what you pay for with each set mentioned!

hi CJ, if you are disappointed because of the kg value, bear in mind that this is pretty misleading. It doesn't account for pedal geometry and is not a measurement of the actual foot pressure required. If you compared the performance of the CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit with the discontinued CSL Elite Load Cell Kit, you might be surprised by the results. But also bear in mind that the CSL Pedals range was not intended to be a direct replacement for the CSL Elite Pedals.

@@domb_fanatec2826 the key factors for me were kg value and customization of the pedals in that order so thankyou massively for pointing out that the foot pressure wont relate on a 1 to 1 basic. I wonder do you guys have some stats internally at fanatec reporting the actual nm comparison on the footplate between different pedal sets available? If you do is there a possibility for these stats to be made public? If not to either question then purely anecdotally how would you compare the pressure difference between models? And as always thanks for reading through the publics comments and replying to questions. These interactions really helps develop my perception of the brand and im sure it does for many others.
