Not really. Even many Dragon Ball fans never heard about him, until the internet started talking more and more about the people and companies behind the franchises. I watched and loved Spongebob for 15-20 years until i even knew who came up with the shows and characters. Toriyama is indeed the most known to insiders, but not in general. Many people who are into cartoons and know a lot of writers, don't know who Toriyama-sensei and Oda-sensei are.

People born in the 80s and 90s have many memories and life stories of that time, including a part of their childhood associated with Dragon Ball. When author Akira created Dragon Ball, he did not expect that he had indirectly created the world's childhood. The 8x and 9x systems are "somewhat" more beautiful and also create fresh memories when thinking back to this era full of difficulties in life... Goodbye to Akira Toriyama, the person who helped me learn about manga in the early days - a person who influenced the manga industry and made it change and develop.
