Apollo Robbins (@ApolloRobbins) is often referred to as “The Gentleman Thief.” He first made national news when he pick-pocketed the Secret Service while entertaining a former U.S. President. Forbes has called Robbins “an artful manipulator of awareness,” and Wired has written that “he could steal the wallet of a man who knew he was going to have his pocket picked.”
Robbins’ entertainment credentials include the Warner Bros. film Focus, with Will Smith and Margot Robbie, along with appearances in Brooklyn 99, and the TNT series Leverage. He was a producer and co-host for National Geographic’s Brain Games, which was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Informational Series. Robbins applies his expertise in magic and misdirection beyond entertainment, pulling back the curtain to show how the principles behind these illusions can enhance strategic thinking and decision-making.
His contributions to attention and perception research have been published in Scientific American Mind and Nature Reviews Neuroscience. He has delivered lectures at Harvard Kennedy School, MIT Sloan School of Management, and the Society of Neuroscience. He has been profiled by The New Yorker and featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic, and The Wall Street Journal. Robbins’ TED Talk, “The Art of Misdirection,” is ranked in the 20 most-watched TED Talks of all time and has been hailed by the TED editors as a revelation in the flaws of human perception.

After the last handshake, was that Tim casually tapping his pocket twice to check if his phone/wallet/secret-service-itinerary was stolen? 😂

Ive had been subject to ring extraction. I knew they will go for it but the ring doesn't come out so I had no worries. I played dumb and she tried to take it out twice but gave up. I was amazed by how smooth that was. The approach was, I've found this ring is it yours? Lets see if it fits you Similarly with the coat. You dont feel a thing if the coat wall does not touch your body. Even when it does they uae misdirection to drive attention away. One guy I knew demonstrated this to me. He got close enough to my space and took my wallet and I was all up to get him but could not feel a thing

9:36 - how is that coin move done? - all fingers are open. On slow .25 speed it seems like an old school UFO tractor beam without the light show. Squeezing tension released?

In the full interview with Tim and Apollo, they both mention how incredibly difficult it is for the body to do that move because it's a very unnatural movement. That's as far as they go.

It looks exactly like you said irl as well. It interestingly involve very slightly contorting the palm 'muscles' to rocket the coin off

I saw a woman today with a chain connecting her nose ring to her ear jewelry. It had been a long time since I'd seen that type of facial adornment. I met people in Chile with ripped ear lobes from encounters with thieves and gold hoop earrings. While I really would like to be proficient at make up and other cosmetic type things I don't care for jewelry and I have been questioning credit cards as tracking devices

Why has nobody ever picked my pocket? I'm insanely oblivious to mal-intent, and thinking back I can picture maybe 3 or 4 occasions that somebody might have attempted to pick my pocket, but I didn't realize it at the time. Am I just THAT antisocial?
