Cool to see anybody trying skateboarding and seeing them laugh at themselves failing/succeeding. Seems like Addison did the best but probably had some riding before this. I was able to work up to 5 stairs within a day of trying stairs (certainly not on the first day roller skating), but I also both played hockey up to university and figure skated when I was younger. 5 stairs skateboarding was definitely harder for me, but I never had prior experience in a similar sport. 5 stairs for someone who has never roller skated before... About as likely as someone who has never been on a skateboard doing a drop in on a quarter pipe day 1.

Clearly an ego driven response. Either way what hes saying is true for almost any sport. Everyone learns things at different paces. I've seen people get ollies down instantly and bring them to sets essentially day one. I've also seen people skate hard every day for 5+ years and i can count how many tricks they can do on 2 hands. Everyone learns things at different paces just accept it.

We didn't sell bad decks :) Why blank board? They're cheap and made in same factory as pro boards so they are good. If beginner decides that skateboarding is not they thing it didn't cost too much to try.

Learning any new tricks is really about understanding the movements and pushing through that fear of failing/falling. I used the internet for the steps and broke them down into understandable sections instead of just trying to do it mindlessly. For an olli popping the tail starts the initial lift off the ground, sliding the foot raises the tail further into the air(make sure you really let your ankle roll so the side of your shoe can make contact with the grip tape), lift both legs evenly levels out the board, then stick the landing. If I gave any new skaters advice it would be to take full advantage of the internet, look up tutorials, and try to understand each action and what its purpose is in the trick.

It's mental how Addison Rae was born the same year as me. Damn. I don't have Tiktok, but heard of her through people mentioning her on youtube. I used to skate years ago as a kid, my older brother and I, even my dad. We'd make skate videos, play the video games, wear the shirts, make our own board graphic ideas, homemade ramps from a spare door and a box. But I haven't done it since then, and I'm 23 this year, and really need to get back to it. Still love skateboarding to this day. It had a contributing influence in my taste in music, and branched out into watching jackass and so on. It's my first love, and always will be.

honest question: whats the problem with completes? they are affordable and make it easy to get into skating and just learn the basics, considering that often just the deck costs as much as a complete. afterwards one can still get a better set up. as long as you buy from reputable brands, it should be fine, right?

Yeah at my skate shop they actually always direct towards complete for pure beginners who don't already have a plan in mind and just wanna get into the sport. And then once you learn more and what you like and your skate style and preferences and/or your board breaks, you can get your first built board.

hi just curious is there a problem buying already built skateboards? like im not being sarcastic, like I genuinely want to know ,because I bought my skateboard pre built , does it still have the same quality?

I like the first Girl because she did everything herself and did pretty good . That is the best way to start in my opinion . If you can't motivate to skate alone you are probably doing it for the wrong reasons .

I guess it's more like character or type of personality thing. Some people are just built different. But I share your opinion.

Used to skate in my high school days and was pretty good at it. I'm 29 now and I haven't touched a skateboard for about 10 years now and I have forgotten EVERYTHING. I have been snowboarding over the years thinking that it would translate easy, but my god, was I wrong. Definitely going to have to pick it up again.

snowboarding does transfer over! u just wont notice it until you have more control. focus on the basics and once u get that down. EVERYTHING will open up.

I tried learning when I was young but after covid I wanted to buy my first online accidently bought a tiny blue board but then went to Sovrn and got a bigger one I still dont know all the fancy tricks but riding it around campus is honestly better then walking lol Also not all skateboarders are judgmental cause when I wanted a friend to learn to ride he was nervous cause he was a bit fat but the local shop owner was a lot bigger and could ride a board and do tricks which helped out my friend not feel nervous and even taught us what's good and styles of the types of board cause we both didn't know.

To be fair, in my experience I've found that all the beginner skateboarders I've helped out (like my daughter) have preferred bigger, soft compound wheels. So much so that my Santa Cruz Cruiser with OJ 58s at 86a was stolen by my daughter so I had to get another. I actually prefer softer wheels myself, but for street skating, I find 95a or above the best compound, I skated in the 1980s through to the 1990s and then for a bit in the early 2000s before stopping completely due to dull boring real life. Started again in August 2023. Still can't land a kick flip.
