Child stars have seemed to reach a certain level of immortality. In the eyes of Hollywood, they are forever the age where they became famous. But the entertainment industry can often be pretty cruel to the aging child star. As the kid grows up in front of the camera, they have to play their cards just right so they can stay relevant and continue to get work regardless of how old they are. However, what usually happens is that the child star ages out of their role as well as their demand. Then, they are stuck trying to prove to the world how grown up they are by shedding their innocent and wholesome looks. This is why we often see child stars like Miley Cyrus go to the extreme opposite of their image in order to prove a point. But then there are other child stars like Freddie Highmore who has managed to stay relevant and maintain his demand because of his look and acting talent. Yet, not every child star will maintain their looks as they grow up.

Not for Mara Wilson who played Natalie from mrs. Doubtfire and Matilda from Matilda. She wanted to be an actress for a brief time but then chose to lead and normal life and is now a blogger. The problem with a lot of child actors and actresses is that they don't have a choice. Their parents force them through acting and the pressure placed upon them by their parents causes problems later in life. Mara Wilson made the choice to go into acting but then after a few years in the business made the choice to leave the acting world so she could grow up.

Andy Sokal These videos are rather mean-spirited. Some of these child actors had so much strife as children. Culkin's parents were a mess! Furlong's agent molested him and made his life a living hell. The media needs to give these people a break. They're human beings for God's sake. Have some compassion. Thanks for your comment.

I feel so sorry for Jake Lloyd. Schizophrenia is a horrible disease and causes a great deal of suffering for people who have the illness. It also makes me angry that he spent time in jail. People with mental illness shouldn't be criminalized and placed in jails or prisons; they need treatment. After all, it's called "mental illness" for a reason--it's an illness! Treatment, not punishment!

if Lindsay Lohan had just one single person in her life who really cared about her and wasn't using her, she may have transitioned from child/teen to adult much more smoothly than she did. Her own mom showing up at Lindsay's rehab institution with full camera crew to film a scene for her own tv show says it all.

Gosh that was so sad to watch! Reminds me of when I watched a program on a bunch of people that won the lottery, and how it changed their lives to extreme highs, to extreme lows, and even homelessness. Truly sad! Child actors truly have it rough, hours, and usually crazy parents that just want money. Shirley Temple was one of the first, who changed laws for child actors... They worked that little girl to the bone! 😪

Amadden mind we spend so much time trying to hold on to that child and young image we once were, that we end up destroying ourselves in the process which causes us to age a lot quicker than we normally would. The key is to live in the holy spirit and let go of how the world see us and what the world thinks of us.
