Family of Strangers -- Afterschool Special -- 1980
Ойын-сауық
Here is a short film/Afterschool Special "Family of Strangers" from 1980. this talks about a widowed father with 2 daughters marries mom with her own daughter and tries to work things out. Starring the late Danny Aiello from "Do the Right Thing" and other films/shows.

It was stupid of them to get married without ever even introducing their kids and getting to know everyone.

I think it would have made life alot easier if they would have gotten to know each other from the start. After the wedding it's to late. If you're the children you're stuck.

@tonyakrebs4137 I wouldn't think they would have. The show couldn't have been an afternoon special if they'd spend all the time it took to go thru the whole backstory.

This is what father's are supposed to do for their children, spend quality time with them and get to know them and not just support them. Even step dads. My dad did this with me but only after my mom and dad divorced. Real good little movie! Thank you!

He could’ve done a lot better when they first got married, but you have to love the way he tried to improve, he got better at listening to each child. I think he would’ve continued to try strengthen the family and be a better husband and father. That’s all we can do- keep trying to do better, strengthen our relationships as much as we can on our side of it.
Sweet story. I have always loved Danny Aiello. The Last Don/The Last Don 2 is one of my favorites off all times. He was a sweet man, I am sure in real life as well. Rest in peace Danny!!

I used to love these when I was a kid. But as an adult, I noticed something about them: they're based on children's novels, almost none of which are read today. There are thousands of young adult novels written by Kin Platt, Fran Arick, Paul Zindel, Judy Blume, and others, half of which are forgotten. Then again, how can you blame today's kids for not wanting to read this stuff. They don't have to wait while their teenage sister hogs the phone, they don't have to have quarters for the payphone, no renting videos from the local video store, no fax machines anymore, no writing letters to your friend in another state and waiting for a reply, and mom doesn't tell her son, "No, you can't try on your sister dresses."

I was a child and teen of the 70's. I remember watching these as well and reading those books too. They made 'Are you there God, it's me Margaret' this year and I watched the movie with my 11 year old. She loved the movie. I was at first hesitant to watch the movie because I heard it was terrible and everybody was trashing it. My first thought was that they changed the book (which I adored when I was my daughter's age) to make it more like all the other young adult movies that are seen on Netflix. Imagine my surprise when the movie was EXACTLY like the book! I couldn't figure out what everyone's problem was with the movie. It was a different time for sure but I think kids today are handicapped by all the media available to them. I've watched some of the movies that are out there now and they seem so unrealistic and mean. The values we held back then seem to be values they mock today. Funny thing is my daughter felt just like Margaret so I think the media is doing a great disservice to today's youth by telling them THIS is what should be bothering you. I may be rambling...
I used to love going skating as a teenager. My sister and I used to go skating on Saturday afternoons. Remember The New Kid In Town? They played that song so much I still remember every word. I listened to that song Do The Boogaloo on here before I saw this. That song brought me here. This is a very good episode. It is really like a blended family. I used to watch all these After School Specials. Carrie and Rosie seemed to be getting along halfway into it.

Nine minutes in and I already hate how Carrie is being treated by her ugly (hearted) stepsisters and her stepfather.
This type of situation is never easy. My mother died when I was ten & I ended up with an abusive, alcoholic stepmother.
