Oh what a sad shock this is. I was just watching him on "The Dooky Chase Kitchen: Leah's Legacy" on PBS and he seemed the very definition of a great family man and was a real joy to watch and learn from. Mr. Chase seemed so kind and intelligent and seemed to possess a tremendous light and happiness that he spread to so many others around him. May God bless and comfort his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and friends.

I have never met this family, but I do know from other people. This is probably the very finest family you will ever find in America that is a toll statement to make but this is a family all about a family! The family values, and the love of God and hard work has propelled a small sandwich shop into a world renown restaurant, incidentally, located in the middle of the culinary capital of the great South. If you listen to the words of this gentleman, you will know how precious this family is and how they love each other and the community they serve with honesty and a Christian commitment to all. I was actually out of the country when I got a text with the news that Mr. Chase had passed away from a heart attack. He was a man that was the pillar of the community! The way I know about this family is because I was a manager of the late entertainer James Brown. Every time our Learjet with land at the New Orleans executive airport the first stop that limousine would make before we got to the Fairmont to check in, was directly to Dukie chase! Mr. Brown will excuse himself and deny the presence of security, and say he will call us when he has had his fill.

I was the leader of Security for the King of Soul JAMES BROWN. When in NOLA he would inform us that he wished to “Go visit a wonderful friend” ALONE!! He would never tell us where he went, but we would always shadow him when he would leave in his disguise from the hotel normally the Fairmont hotel. He would go out front and get a cab and head directly for the back door of Dooky, Chase! Although he instructed us to stay in the hotel. Things happen to big international celebritys! So we were always in position to move in from all direction if he paged us. When we saw him get into a curb or into Mr. Chase personal car with him, we would race to get back to the hotel before he got there, run up to our room and pretend we have been sitting there all a while. He would show up with more food than you would belive! Regardless of where we were in the world when we were talk about real food, good food, and by the way, we were all Caucasian and the security detail he would talk about Dooky Chase and how much he would love to have a mess of greens!
