00:08 Cooking the potatoes
02:13 Preparing the dressing
05:20 Chopping up the potatoes
07:00 Adding all of the final ingredients
09:13 Tasting the potato salad
INGREDIENTS
- 4 lb red potatoes
- 1 3/4 cups mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup diced white onion
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp pickle relish
- 1/2 tsp celery seed
- 1 cup diced celery
- 4 large hardboiled eggs, diced
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place washed potatoes in a stockpot. Cover the potatoes with cold water by one inch. Place the stockpot over medium heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling watch the water so it doesn't boil over and cook the potatoes until they are tender. To check if the potatoes are cooked insert a knife into the middle and it should meet no resistance. Once cooked drain and set the potatoes aside to cool.
- In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, onion, mustard, apple cider vinegar, pickle relish, celery seed, salt, and pepper. Whisk to combine and set aside. Prepare the potatoes by slicing them into small bite-sized pieces or use a chopping tool to chop them irregularly.
- Place the prepared potatoes in a large bowl. Add the diced celery and hardboiled eggs. Pour over the dressing and mix to combine all the ingredients.
- Cover and refrigerate 3-4 hours before serving to let the flavors incorporate.

This is almost exactly my Gram’s recipe. Her one little difference was, cook potatoes the night before, chop them up and drizzle melted butter over them. Refrigerate over night, assemble in the morning. SO GOOD!!!
I have my late mother-in-law's 'chopper', which she always used to fine-tune her cabbage for slaw. Now I have another use for it!! THANKS for another great recipe!
I made this potato salad for a potluck BBQ and it was a hit! People came back for seconds and thirds yet it was so simple to make. Thanks for the recipe Kaleb :)
Thanx, Kaleb, for sharing your recipes and techniques, too! Yes, I agree, there's nothing better than homemade mayonnaise. I substitute chopped dill pickles for the celery. I'm so happy to see your number of subscribers increasing. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Oh how I wish I was in your kitchen eating some of this. Thank you! Can’t wait to try it. You do make everything look so very easy and not afraid to try and do ourselves. Yay
In my family, it was used to chopped cabbage for making Kraut or chow chow
I add a bit of red bell pepper in mine, too. And my mom and both grandmothers had that same chopper! ❤
That’s exactly how I cook my red potatoes for my Potato Salad. ❤️❤️
Love seeing your traditional family recipes! Thanks for sharing! Yummm
I made a tuna sandwich once and found that I only had a smidge each of dill and sweet pickle relish. I mixed them together and put it on my sandwich. The juices melded together well, and it was nice to get pops of sweet and dill with every bite! Goes well for potato salad too.
I made this for a cookout and OH MY WORD. It was so good. I can't even describe how much we loved it. Thank you for sharing.
I have made this three times since seeing this video, a new family favourite. I'm not a fan of potatoe salad but love this one. Thank you Kaleb, love your recipes.
Wonderful recipe. Easy to make, delicious, and a picnic favorite. Thanks for sharing.
Looks delicious
I am going to make this tomorrow! 😊
Love that chopper!
I was a kid that loved potato salad but just my mom's. She made hers a bit differently than others I've had. Her's had a textual difference that I loved. She never used relish but would dice dill pickles and add them with a little juice. She also added radishes so that you got some crunch mixed with the creamy. She did have some celery but not a lot. She used miracle whip and more mustard than any others I've tried. She used just enough of them to bind but not swim in it. She also didn't have hard boiled eggs which I hear is sacrilegious lol. She boiled the potatoes with skins too but then peeled. I miss her cooking
I’m making some of that ,it will be delicious, thanks !
Great Recipe. Thank you!
Making this right now
You always answer the important questions... start in cold water, or not? Peel first, or not? You answered these right off the bat, thank you!
Oh lawd that looks sooo delicious 😋
Love your recipes💖 Thank you❣️
I made this and it’s delicious!
Love your recipes❤
I add vinegar directly to warm potatoes. Potatoes absorb it but not over powering. Skins on, yes! Great, easy recipe!
Hi Kaleb. Just recently discovered your channel and I'm loving it! Thank you for this delicious-looking recipe. Love all of your gardening tips!
Your potato salad looks amazing, it’s a nice departure from the standard potato salad. I love that you use Redskin potatoes & don’t cut them before boiling. Adding diced onion to the dressing, is a great tip to infuse more flavor into the dressing. This is one of your best recipes!
Now that’s good groceries! Yum!
Making this today. Love how you leave the Pepper shaker on a lid. I do the same. Enjoy your weekend.
Look’s Yummy!
That is some good looking potato salad! I know it’s good!
I own that tool, great for tuna and egg salad chopping!
I have one of those choppers, I use for my boiled eggs to. Makes making potato salad a breeze. Your dressing sounds yummy. Have an awesome day. Thank you for sharing.
OMG - I LOVE potato salad and this recipe is almost identical to mine. The only difference is I use Ground Mustard and I add chopped radish. I've even had it with chopped apple - yum !!! It's a classic, no-brainer for sure - and absolutely delicious !!!!
I have that chopper from my mom! Yay team, love this tool 😊
This is my family's recipe too. I have the same chopper, like my mother's and granny's. We do add a little sugar and slice pimento stuffed green olives in the potato salad too. The olives add a nice taste with the other ingredients.
wow yummy yummy
Just like my mom made and so do I. Yummmm!
Love your recipes but just enjoy your style more! Thx
Thank you.
Love that u used homemade mayonnaise,my kind of thing too!! It looks amazingly delicious, yummy
I use that chopper tool for making biscuits. It is perfect to cut the dough to make the biscuits.
I love potato salad! Yours looks delicious. My mom always used Russet potatoes for her salad, but I like the idea of using red potatoes instead. I definitely want to try your recipe. Thanks Kaleb!
Yummy! 🥰
A chefs facial!! Yes!!
Excellent! You even took that 'steam bath' like a pro 😄
Hi Kaleb!!! I just love watching you cook in your beautiful kitchen. All of your recipes are soooo good, I know because I've made plenty of them!!!!! My husband just said to me that he wants me to make a potato sald and then you put out this video! Can't wait to try it! thanks! :)
Looks good. I also add chopped bread and butter pickles.
That’s a cabbage chopper. Looks good!!! Listening from NC
Potato salad was a must-have with ham when I was growing up.
Looks so good. I would love to have your homemade mayo recipe.
I like to make potato salad summer or any holiday christmas w a Ham dinner.. so good ..
Delicious. Going to try the mash instead of cube on the potatoes. I’ve got that little chopper.
I’m making some 👍❤️
Yes yes yes !
Yes i like your potato salad.
Like the chopper idea caleb a will need to do the for potato salad
Thanks
I used to use red onions in my potatoe salad but have switched to green onions...chop both the white and green up and toss it all I. To me it gives a much more light taste to my salad. Also a pinch of white granulated sugar...my favorite thing is to have potatoe salad the next morning for breakfast after all the flavors have "melded" together!!... nummy!!...love your videos!!

Yuuuummmmmm. I love extra onions in mine.
Yum!!
Thank you for this recipe!! I’m so stressed out making a potato salad for my first time ☺️
I love your recipe, I do peel the potatoes.
I found that chopper on Amazon, simply called a serrated food chopper. I have wanted one for a while now.
N.Ireland here. We add chopped boiled potatoes, celery, mayo, mustard, celery salt, diced onion, diced tomato, diced spring onion, black & white pepper, little salt ...no egg.......then make a seperate diced egg, mayo, tomato, onion, spring onion.
Simple and a little bit rustic, love the recipe! The only thing that I would add, I use powder chicken stock in my potato water. Just adds a little bit more salt that way you don't have to add more later of course you can LOL
I'm going to try this one. I love potato salad and have been searching for a copycat recipe of Americaan deli potato salad. This may be the one!
To have a Son who always talks about your mom? Awesomeness! Good Son nice video
Kwik-kut Cutlery Serrated Food Chopper, Amazon, $9.48 How cool! Who knew! Thank you Mr. Wyse
Above everything including chocolate I love homemade potato salad
Making for the 4 th thanks 🦋😎
This is almost exactly how I make my potato salad. Try eating it with Ritz crackers. It is delicious!
Yummy potatpo salad
That's a nice biscuit cutter you're using to chop up the potatoes
Except for the eggs, and mayo, I had some homemade potato salad for lunch today. Great minds think alike. Lol.
New subscriber here! Looks so good! Very similar to what I make. Our family's potato salad never had mustard or relish in it. I'll definitely change it up next time and give it a try! Thank you for sharing! ~ Chris
This is how I’ve always made mine, except the onion was soaked in the vinegar with a little added pickle juice. We also never measured, but yours looks perfect
I got my chopper from Mast General Store in Boone NC. We welcome u if u r ever down our way!
I will do for christmas and ham dinner..tel thanks grill too

Sounds perfect! There’s nothing better than potato salad during a summer holiday!
Looks good i would swap out the pickles for cucumber i know same veggie just different
Hi. Just found you! I'm going to start looking for that chopper you have. My potato salad is very similar. And because I was just diagnosed with high blood pressure, I found Mortons 50% lower sodium salt to use. I'm a salt freak so this was a God send.
That’s a biscuit cutter! lol I love all your videos

YUMMMMMMMMMM
Wowwwww outstanding perfect thanks for sharing stay connected i am your New friend stay connected
My potato salad is very similar except I add diced pickles and pickle juice for the acid instead of vinegar.
The choper is called Kwik Kut TE-60 Food Chopper Tooth Edge. And is available on ebay. Watch out there is a smooth edge one.
That’s how I make potato salad, minus the relish and celery. I’m not a fan of celery either, especially mixed-in things as I feel like the taste takes over the food. And I’m definitely a Hellmans mayo kinda gal 😋
Totally with you on your ❤ of black pepper. Not a huge fan of celery either. 😉

❤❤❤
I take a drink every time Kaleb says, guess what?”
Potato salad is amazing! I'm from Southeast Texas, so we have the Southern mixed with Mexican and Tex-Mex, a delicious melange of foods. I don't recall having potato salad growing up, but when it came across our plates at a church dinner, I remember seeing my mother writing down the ingredients and asking for the recipe of the potato salad and at least four other dishes! Now you already said and know that a recipe is nice but everyone will tweak it to their own liking. That said, today only one person makes the best potato salad, above all (my ex-wife's in was her mother's potato salad, which sadly she couldn't replicate so I divorced her! Just kidding, there were other and various reasons, lol) and that is my big sister Sandra. For years she has had that respect from the family and she must make it for any family gathering (I am the maker of what I'm told is the best broccoli salad, though it may be no one likes cutting the broccoli and the mess it can make, so I'm not telling them I buy the florets). Our family and extended family are a melting pot of Mexican, Black, White (including German, Cajun/Coon-Ass, Anglo-Saxon and strong influences from Filipino and Korean cuisine) that makes for occasional taste bud heaven. Anyway, I love your channel, especially the cooking; although your gardening is working on me, I'm helping my sister in law do her magic more often, both of her thumbs are green, heck, both her hands! Thanks for being so helpful and kind, which I can feel just watching your videos!
I have that masher is called a tooth edge delux stainless steel chopper.

When I bite into any salad where miracle whip was used I just want to gag lol
I do mine basically the same except I don’t have that amazing chopper, love that never seen one before
