What bugs me is when a group has like 3 different concept pictures for their comeback and only one is good and the others are okay or they're all okay. The more they have/take the less options they have later and then they feel like repeats. I feel like having one good one makes the era automatically recognizable. I'm tired of the suit concept for guys, but that might just be a complaint against mens' fashion in general. We need more specific and out there concepts.

Not fitted, boring, shapeless, color hating .And worst of it its expensive. So they could have something beautiful instead . Enhypen on MAMA only pretty suits looks I seen in years.

That’s actually pretty common. Been into K-Pop since 2009 and I recall Evol (a group that came out in 2012, the year of female group debuts) had a teaser for their debut that was called Magnet and featured the b-side with the same title as it and I was hooked, it being a girl crush sounding song. Then the actual song was We Are A Bit Different, which was completely just a run of the mill EDM song that I felt was so devoid of interest. But I think companies want to promote b-sides as well and push them into teasers/ads without thinking people might mistake it for the title track.

This reminds me of when Pristin were having their first comeback with 'We Like". When they dropped the "M/V Pre Teaser", the sound had more of a hip-hop influence which was completely different from the final product. For the actual M/V Teaser, it essentially showcased the chorus of that song. When the M/V dropped, that hip-hop sound reappeared towards the end during the credits scene where the members hold their inmate name tags. Besides that, the rap verse in the song that occurs before the bridge as well as the outro have a similar sound to that of the Pre Teaser.

They are literally dancing with rolay dresses and sneakers in the MV. One producer even showed her song (that she wanted to sell to jyp) and it was in the same theme. JYP had a clear concept here they just didnt knew the fans will like the 1st concept photos that much and this will led them to think its a royal concept with specific sound before them seeing the 2nd concept photos. it was a fun idea that backfired. Fans wanted them to grow out and were ready for it only for them to release a kids bop. It was not that much abt the concept it was about the bad song. If the song was good fans would have excuse the photos

I think the Sneakers one is a bit unfair, since technically they did have the outfits and setting in the music video. I think the issue was that picked like 3 different ideas for the video and instead of using just one, they mashed them up. And I do know the album was different looking, but I do think most albums aren’t made by the people who make the video, so their concepts are usually different (depending). I argue SM does it way worse. f(x), Super Junior, Aespa, SHINee, Key, and many other artists under them have albums that don’t even match the music videos. Starting with f(x), with Pink Tape, they had a whole little teaser called Art Film, which was very artsy with the song, Shadow in the background (it even had a little reference to the song at the end, with the camera looking in at the girls through a window and Amber looking back at the camera, which the song Shadow is about a shadow watching/stalking it’s owner) and the set in the Art Film was the location for the album photo shoot. Cut to Rum Pum Pum Pum being a box set (one of the sets looking like a bowling lane in a futuristic bowling alley) and the song not really matching the vibe of the teaser photos nor the album photo shoot. And technically I think Pink Tape was originally going to be a more artsy album, with the album taking on a classic art film vibe (the list the genre on the album, like a movie genre, which the album has a VHS concept, as Romance and Cult) and having songs that had a retro feel. But then you have many EDM songs on it as well (which makes sense for 2013), which is why I think the album is good, but also feels a little mix matched in songs. And not only that, on Red Light in 2014, it leaned into the EDM side, but also had retro songs that actually felt more in place with Pink Tape, so I think they changed the idea a little during production, making thinking the retro vibe wouldn’t sell at that time. Felt very Tumblr/Hipster in a year that was fun and upbeat. Super Junior’s Mr. Simple (and many other albums by them) really don’t match up with their teaser photos. The teaser photos for Mr. Sexy were colorful and sexy, but then cut to the music video and it’s a white room with hardly any color and none of the outfits being remotely sexy. It honestly is so confusing and literally is such a lazy MV. The teaser video was similar to the video, but the photo shoot felt more in line with the actual song. Aespa’s Drama teaser photos did this as well, with the girls having them be giantesses in a city to then get a black room dance performance video, with shots of fighting and being in set locations in a city that didn’t match the teaser photos. It honestly doesn’t even make sense to the song in my opinion. And with how Spicy and now Supernova actually being pretty much connected to the MV, it’s so confusing that the comeback between them (I’m leaving off Better Things for now) literally didn’t even match the Teaser Photos. SHINee’s View has it a little different, which is using another song on the album (usually a B-Side that will be performed during the comeback), which was Odd Eye (which is more confusing when the album is called Odd), which was a slow vibe song that really is vocally heavy over dancing. I was excited for this song. Then we get View and while it’s a good song and MV that actually was in the photo album, but not the ugly teaser photos, the song sounded like a Disclosure b-side and didn’t match with what I thought the album would be (and I actually think it stands out not sounding as similar to the other tracks on that album, which have more of the sound Odd Eye does, minus Woof Woof). Promoting the B-Sides is fine, I like that, but I think it should be in like one of the teaser videos, not a main one over clips of the MV. Key’s Gasoline pisses me off the most, because the whole album photo shoot has like that Married To The Music/ Rocky Picture Horror Show mixed with Ghostbusters type of style, something fun and more light hearted with a little edge. Then the teaser for the music video is literally a black set performance video with a gold theme and literally has nothing from the teaser photos. Like I can get if like they have a few sets/outfit changes and they show only one in the teaser photos, but I have the album and it doesn’t have any of the gold outfits in the photo book. And the photoshoot had so much character put into it (there was even like a mascot creature in them) that I’m sad the MV was bland and honestly a lazy SM MV. I actually think Sunmi’s Stranger actually has more in common with Key’s photoshoot for the Gasoline album than the actual MV. Like said, I get sometimes albums have different styles in the MV and Photo shoots, due to being done by different people, I assume. But I think matching them up should come up in the whole concept phase of the album. And I think the ones I pointed out are much worse than ITZY’s Sneakers, which I think just had too many concepts and wasn’t narrowed down to one.

Long comment ahead. I'm not sure if this is considered, probably not, but it reminds me of Kingdom's cookie video for their 5th music video called "Long Live the King" which is the title track of their 5th album called "History of Kingdom: Part V. Louis" or "HOK5". The cookie video features one of the members, Louis, in a castle and he's wearing regal clothes (both of those, including his stage name 'Louis' is inspired by French royalty). The video also features a lot of imagery involving red wine and blood irc, as well as the moon. Red imagery + moon + French-inspired clothing and name = popular trope/stereotype that vampires are rich Europeans (specifically French characters). So yeah, loads of us were expecting Louis' character to be a vampire and have a vampire-themed MV. When Arthur, another member, who is known for spoiling comebacks, went live on Weverse he read a comment from a fan where they asked if they're doing a vampire concept and he was shocked and said "How did you know?" which further fuelled our expectations. But when the teaser and MV dropped, it turns out there were no vampires in sight and Louis' character is just an immortal character with no relations to vampires. Even in the behind the scenes, Louis said that some might think they're vampires when really they're not (this results in the fandom laughing at ourselves for getting the concept wrong lmao). I believe the reason why many thought it'll be a vampire concept is because of the stereotype I mentioned which is so ingrained in fictional stories. And I think the reason why GF Ent (KD's company) didn't go with a vampire concept is because associating vampires with immortality and blood is so overused. And maybe the reason why they used a lot of red imagery is because Louis' character is immortal LIKE a vampire, which gives fans an idea as to what the concept is about (or maybe because it's in Louis' blood to stop time and be immortal). Some parts of the teaser was included in the final product, though. I think another example is VIXX's concept film for their album "Zelos" and their music video "Dynamite". The concept film is in black and white and had this ominous vibe to it. Whereas in the official music video everything is brightly coloured, even the song sounds upbeat, despite the lyrics being about jealousy and someone's anger (like the Greek god Zelos himself). I like both of the concept film and song, but I see why some may not like it.

@@ladymoon7327 I became a fan during HOK5 preparations and I also thought Louis' character was a vampire, but then I realized he wasn't. But it's still interesting for GF to take that route of him just being immortal and not a vampire, because I don't see a lot of Kpop music videos do that type of stuff when including supernatural elements to their MVs. Also Idk if it's just me being forgetful or me not consuming more fantasy media or there aren't a lot of stories being made with this specific trope, but I can't really think of any character that cannot die no matter how hard they try and they're also NOT a vampire.

  • @ladymoon7327

@@ninarances9074 ahaha, I see your point! (In the last paragraph) I do read a lot of fantasy as this is my favorite genre and this are my two cents on this: vampires aren't impossible to kill, they're just very, very hard to. They can usually be killed with fire and/or chopping off the head, or driving a wooden stake into the heart. The reason they're hard to kill is that because they're technically a reanimated corpse so they're already dead (implying they can't be just killed but basically destroyed). All of these suggestions come mainly from the classic book "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, I which was inspired but the twenty years older classic "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu. I have read only Carmilla but in both books vampires are possible to kill only with the methods I said earlier. If we dive deeper, vampires comes from Serbian folklore which I don't know much about so I can't say how vampires function there. However, the mentioned books are written by guys that are both Irish BUT "Dracula" takes place in Transylvania (modern day Romania). That's why this country is sometimes referred to as the "the most vampire place on earth", as "Dracula" is *extremely* influenal work. What I'm trying to say with this long paragraph (sorry!) is that, if we go with the original version of a vampire, Louis should be basically a walking corpse who drinks blood from innocent people in order to function. However, the vampire trope has evolved greatly over the decades, especially in our time and many people has taken the chance to write their own version of vampires. In the end of the day, the above description is not rule(s) you should follow but an inspiration you can take into account if you wish so. When making fantasy or paranormal story, we can do whatever the hell you want. Also, another thing I wanted to point out with the first paragraph: France specifically (as far as I'm aware) doesn't have a (historical) cultural link with vampires. The vampire classics are from Irish authors, Romania is alleged as the vampire place, Serbian folklore, ect., ect. So I don't think it would have made sense to make their French king a vampire, considering the group's historical concept. As for other immortal and unkillable character, I admit I also have trouble thinking of such that is not a vampire in the moment. The only things that comes to mind is Greek mythology gods and creatures. However, as I mentioned before, in a fantasy world you can do whatever you want, so it wouldn't be impossible Louis to have vampire traits without being one. Also as far as I know Louis is only immortal but not unkillable? I may have missed something if that's not true but I haven't spotted that he's indestructible. He may be just immortal, without additional invincibility. (As, again, you can take liberties in fantasy stories) My personal theory with Louis is that he's either just an immortal who rules his kingdom since the dawn of time, or he comes from dynasty of immortal rulers and for one reason or another, he's the only one left and it's his duty to protect his people. Another (more unlikely) theory I have is that he reincarnate. In French history we have a lot of kings named Louis but also a lot with different names. So in Kingdom's lore, it may be that every Louis in history is reincarnation of the original Louis king who is reborn with all his memories from his past lives. (Hence, this may link with that invincibility you mentioned, because, what does it matter if you're killed, if you'll just reincarnate afterwards? This seems pretty close to indestructibility to me) An issue with this theory is that I don't think the MV (which I haven't seen in quite a while so smt may be inaccurate bc of that) really suggest such thing, more like he's just immortal. Also, reincarnation is not really a thing in European's culture so it may be a little out of place to apply this specifically to a European king when we have four Asian kings. (Sorry this is so long and sorry if you were already aware of the things I mentioned in the beginning 😅 I'm just trying to explain what I'm thinking and it's rare to meet another stan in the wild) (And I'm not trying to invalidate fans's getting the vibe Louis is a vampire at all! Or to invalidate the headcanon he's a vampire, that's totally valid and despite it's confirmed he's not and despite all I said, it would make sense if he was!) (Thank you if you read all of that 😅)

Sometimes I think about how mad I would have been if I had been an EXO fan when Call Me Baby came out. Like wdym SM gave them budget for the special effects of their powers and sending each member to a different country for the teasers, which are very exciting for people like me who are interested about EXO's lore, only for the actual music video to be a dance performance in a parking lot 😭 At least the song is one of the best title tracks from a boy group 💀

You could’ve also used BTS’s Blood Sweat and Tears teaser vs the actual song That was a more drastic sound change imo😆

SM is really good at showing something good but you for something else I'm not complaining because I love EXO NCT and SHINee's music but when sm is like that it's good that their artist are kings of spoilers because they are good at that and that is funny

Some of these things I don't consider false advertising? Maybe it's difference in culture. The music in the teaser not matching? Meh.

I think (G)I-DLE's teasers are the best at hyping you up even though the mv and song are rarely what you expected.

I mean, thats why i never bother to watch teasers or pay attention to the pre-release photos. Ever since Exo's very prolonged debut teasers in 2012, i stopped bothering. There's nothing to be respected about "avoiding spoilers". The point about teasers is like a movie trailer to give people some understanding of what to expect. But even movie trailers stopped being useful in this regard. I'm honestly really fed up. Not to say that leaks shouldnt be avoided (Taemin pls), but on the other hand, foreshadowing can be absolutely well done and fans should be rewarded for noticing them, looking at you Bang Chan in Channie's Room

movie trailers give away most of the movie’s plot nowadays though whereas kpop teasers just act as interesting creative material on their own completely separate from the actual MV and song

I hate when kpop companies do this kind of thing, to this day I hate jyp for making that mistake with the Itzy teasers, presenting us with an royalty concept when in reality the music was going in a much more fun and lively direction
