@@catpurrito5586 So what? Just because he calls them that doesn’t mean that they actually are fascist. It’s an actual term, with damn definition, not some random insult for bad guys. Arcade is portrayed as a know-it-all that whines all the time. The Enclave doesn’t have any specific ideology, no views on economy, social structures or morality in a wider sense. It’s just a government agency/project that keeps carrying and Bethesda uses for the bad guys whenever it suits them. Legion on the other hand has ideology, but is definitely not the fascist one. And I’m not really that much of the Enclave fan btw, I prefer House over them.

I don't know if you are referencing this (and with so many episodes, it's unsurprising) but this _is_ an SNL sketch. I can't find it on youtube, but if I'm remembering correctly it had John Goodman in it. Anyway, it's just all the hokey WW2 tropes piled into one scene and the soldiers slowly realize that they are doomed because of all the death flags they raised.

Vanilla New Vegas is already fun with a great branching storyline, with a few fixes and QoL changes it's a great game. The same can't be said of FO3 or 4, which have mid gameplay and an even more mid story.

@@McCaroni_Suphonestly i really feel like if new vegas was made in the FO4 engine but still had its own mechanics just ported to the fo4 engine then i think really the only mods you’d want would be overhaul or dlc sized mods lol When I mean overhaul mods I mean mods like DUST or true storms (but for FO NV in this alternate timeline) Obviously we can’t ever see what obsidian’s true rendition of new vegas would’ve been like but we CAN speculate, and looking at the detail and care they’ve put in I’d say if they had the FO4 engine they would’ve absolutely blown us away probably with a lot more stuff than what Bethesda gave us

Say what you want, but being able to battle the final boss to the death in a game of Caravan if you have Wild Wasteland Enabled is fucking amazing.

To be fair my Courier is the same guy who survived getting shot in the head twice, slaughtered the Powder gangers to their last man, work as one hell of a mean mercenary, took over the strip and is either idolozed or feared like the grim reaper. So it isn't surprising that the Courier grows into some sort of living myth. I mean It's still kinda awkward, like imagine 10 years after F3 the Lone Wanderer, gets recognized and called by the title he became a legend by. The titles in generel feel more like tales passed on than nicknames.

This mod managed to flip new vegas's strengths and weaknesses. New Vegas is a brilliantly written game with deeply thought out themes and intricate quest, but isn't the most technically impressive game in the world. This mod is incredible in the technical aspects, pushing the engines to it's limits, but is HORRIBLY written and has no idea what tone or themes it wants.

@@FathomLordKarathr It's free. It was suck from the start. I still find amazing what a team of amateurs managed to achieve. I can't do better voice acting, scripting, modelling (and I'm a hobbyist 3D modeller) if I tried. And I definitely wouldnt have the motivation to do so for free. Kudos to the frontier team -- hope some of them go on to have a future in the industry, this is clearly a project of passion without any kind of centrallized management.

Fun Fact: the NCR does not employ the use of the motto "Semper Fi" for a simple reason. as shown during the ending sequence of Fallout 2, during the final showdown, it is used by the Enclave. case in point, the last breath of Frank Horrigan is "Semper Fi". now imagine for a single nanosecond your higher-up using the motto of an organization responsible for mass murders, technology stealing, dismantling a chapter of the Brotherhood of steel, genocide, slavery, liberal and abundant use of bioweaponry and genetic manipulation, with a ploy to murder everyone on the planet, then during fallout 3 disruption of a public service, public execution, shock and awe tactics, blackmail, attempting to poison the sole pure water source, to attempt another genocide. let that sink in... imagine you're a US marine, and your colonel screams "Sieg heil!"... Well. i guess it doesn't matter because either nobody was alive, or everybody was on a bleach diet during Fallout 2, so the collective memories of that game had been erased from existence harder than the hopes for star wars 9 to be a good movie.

The Enclave in fallout is super secretive though, average soldier wouldn’t have any idea about their mottos and customs. They could just stumble upon it somewhere and decide that it sounds good. The more important thing is that the NCR doesn’t really have much these old American army esthetic in such a way, so incorporating this phrase in particular would be weird.

@@Letos90 highly improbable. old world knowledge like this can usually only be found in old-world complexes, like Vaults, BoS HQs and barracks, Mariposa base, and Enclave controlled compounds. NCR is a post-collapse order born after fallout 1. it is highly improbable a NCR operative found the Enclave motto without getting peppered by 2mm EC in the process. but i guess if it was shown this way... it would be an acceptable excuse.

Coito Ergo Sum, the mod about running a brothel and being a pornographer respects the lore of Fallout more than The Frontier does. The writing is also better. That's all that has to be said about The Frontier in terms of its story lol.

I actually know the guy that helped work on the infamous Deathclaw scene. He wrote tons of combat dialogue that somehow didn’t end up in the mod. Probably due to the actual devs being too horny to hurt the deathclaw

A nuclear warhead is actually an extremely stable explosive because activation of the warhead is so specific. From what I remember it required slamming some graphite into some plutonium at a specific speed.

@CocoaXtv_ Wait, how does it make it more stupid? They're trying to stop the nuke, and it seems like that can't stop the launch sequence, so they're destroying the part that makes the explosion. The rest of the mod is dumb, but that part actually makes sense.

I know it doesn't make the rest of the mod less shit, but shooting a nuke (or just damaging it enough in general) actually IS a viable way of disarming it, as nukes are incredibly fine tuned machines, they're not nitroglycerin, it takes a very precisely timed set of events for one to go off, and if that can't happen, then it either goes off with significantly reduced yeild, or not at all

You don’t want a nuke to self-detonate, so there are a LOT of safety features in the warheads, set up so that failure locks the bomb out of detonation. So fucking those up could jam the system and stop the boom.

yeah, unprimed nukes are built to survive accidental releases and even plane crashes (think of all the "broken arrow" incidents, including the one where Carl Brashear lost his leg), so when people say "Nukes are incredibly delicate" the majority often thinks of "if you handle it wrong then we have homemade Hiroshima feat. Chernobyl with a sprinkle of Three Mile Island"....except, since the reactions needed to make the nuke go boom are so precise, it's more like "If you handle it wrong we're left with a VERY expensive and naturally polluting paperweight"

Nuclear warheads have regular explosives too. So even if shooting it wouldn't make it achieve fission, it would most certainly kill everyone is the room and cause a considerable amount of radiation to leak out

This is what happens when you have no creative direction and every writer is unsupervised.

Basically this. It actually reminds me of early game development in a way, since there was a time during the transition period between “one guy in a basement” and “multitalented dev team” where a lot of dev studios didn’t feel the need to hire professional writers. Of course, those studios didn’t usually make dialogue heavy RPG’s, and they still had producers and marketers reining them in.

@@wilmagregg3131 I wouldn't say the dude was a woke sjw or what nto. Reminds me about myself when I read Japanese light novels, always feels a sense of dissatisfaction from the stories they tell. This dissatisfaction may easily turn into horrible fanfics, I mean, wattpad and fanfic.net was full of this stuff back in the day. Truth is, dude probably had zero training to be writing competent stories, he just kind of knew what was cool and went along to put all the cool things together in his own interpretation. At least they allowed you to choose to kill everyone and feel nothing about it. There certainly is a lack of depth in the story, a lot of the stuff is essentially very surface level, but I wouldn't hold the man against what he messed up and rub his nose against it. He probably knows he fucked up already.

The stadium assault was one of the dumbest pieces of writing I've ever seen in a game. As you mentioned, it's *beyond* stupid to throw that many resources at rescuing a single person, even an impotent one. It killed my immersion and I stopped playing after it. The mod makers clearly just wanted a cool set piece and weren't sure how to work it in

This mod is like a bad drug trip (based on how those were described to me by people who did drugs in their lives). It is an insane mix of ideas, but instead of a melting pot, they threw everything they scraped off from TVTropes wiki into an industrial blender and what that shit out became this mod. It is definitely better than hunt down the freeman, but damn... i understand why studios look down on the fans so much, most of our ideas of "cool things i want to see" just ends up creating this mod.

In the Fallout lore, the only other character to ever say "Semper Fi" was Frank Horrigan. The Frontier tried to steal that from Frank, judge accordingly.

And it makes sense with Frank: He was born into the Enclave, rose up through the ranks to being the president's bodyguard. Was likely trained in some equivalent of "bootcamp" or "academy". It makes sense he'd have heard and know the significance of "Semper Fi".

I think the deathclaw scene could work if they made the sex option a wild wasteland encounter and made everything else a way to disable, kill, or force to take a certain amount of damage by the death claw For example, if you have 9 or 10 endurance and have wild wasteland, the courier challenges it and the deathclaw either passes out or dies on the spot I mean if you can challenge one of the main antagonists to a game of caravan to the death, then this should be easy to implement

@Nagger I think Rimmy got hit hard by the weirdness that the NCR Story line is. That's probably why he is nitpicking. I'm playing the Crusader line now and every quest I'm looking out for that Rancor fuck. I got paranoid of main quests in Frontier because of him.

@Nagger That is the only downside from the Crusader Line. I just went straight to them, didn't do the Bridge quest, because while it looked cool with all those Vertibirds, I had no energy for that whole sequence again, even less for ARCHIMEDES II. Rather sad that they made the Crusader Line so short.

Man, the mod really sounds like a holiday potluck where everyone brings their dishes and everyone literally smashes them all together into a single messy pile that you can still tell had so much heart and resources put into it but is still inedible.

@@sodkijezu8748 yep, technical stuff, coding, scripting and the like, is one thing, modeling, assets porting, is another thing, but all of it falls apart in your quest mod if the story doesnt have a good writer, look at some fantastic looking holyweird movies, but why did they fail well, beause either the acting was bad, the sotyr was bad, and the like, if a modder is a good coder, that doesnt mean is going to do a good storyline

Autumn Leaves was so good that Bethesda blatantly stole it. Modders CAN be better. But in all fairness, the creator(s) of Autumn Leaves are just that goated. Plus I hear that the main creator played classic games like Planescape and classic Fallout and such so hence they had a good feel for immersive writing

I mean, look at just ten years ago, when censorship was the Great Satan and openness about sexuality was blooming. These people claim they're progressive, and yet they crucify this mod for its themes and for having fetishistic content? Hypocrisy as a foundation for criticism is a foundation of sand. As someone who sincerely enjoyed this mod (in it's original form, pre-neuter patch!) thank you for your contribution to it.

I was hoping this would be a review, but a streamer fake scream-laughing at a terrible mod was still absolutely hilarious. 10/10

This mod feels like if someone who was a big fan of all the modern shooters played new Vegas liked it well enough but thought it needed to be more like call of duty and missed the point of the game entirely

The writers should have drawn inspiration from history and war literature. Not video games, movies and... hentai.

The older Fallouts took inspiration from movies like Mad Max and A Boy and His Dog but they were generally more subtle about it and put their own spin on it, for example the French film The City of Lost Children inspired some of the aesthetic of the tech stuff and is probably where they got the idea for the Enclave being in the oil rig in the second game. (Plus it was probably the reason they chose Ron Perlman to be the narrator since he was in the movie) But like I said they didn’t rip stuff off wholesale unless they were directly making a pop culture joke.

If you do, there’s a simple fix: cut the weird stuff out when editing later on. Write a chapter in one sitting if you can, and look at it the next day. Maybe it’s good, maybe it’s kinda bad with some excellent bits here and there, maybe it’s terrible. If it’s terrible, you toss it and do it differently… and don’t get discouraged, this is a normal part of the process, everyone puts out hot garbage now and then, it just gets trashed long before publication if they’re doing things right. Now if you can’t tell when your writing is absolutely terrible, just read more good (or at least competently written) books to get a feel for it.

The fact that you're concerned whether your writing is bad or not is already a good sign that you're not AS bad as those guys.

And to think I was so close to actually being a voice in the mod. Kinda glad scheduling conflicts prevented me from going for it.
