Fallout Guide - How TF To Play Fallout 1

Ойындар

This was something I promised to a couple of viewers who mentioned wanting to play Fallout 1 and never have before. This is meant to be targeted to newer players who have minimal to no interaction with the classic Fallout titles.
I go through this in a few ways, I discuss the mechanics and UI, I give a pretty basic cookie cutter build (the crit sniper build), I show off some Fallout 1 gameplay going over some very early missions, and wrap it up with some final tips -- such as returning to Vault 13 for some for some extra ammo or healing items. I do also advice taking out The Khans to get some nice early game gear.
I hope this is helpful. If it is, I may go over something for Fallout 2 - though much is the same there as here. We'll see.
I may upload some more Fallout videos pretty soon, I have a few ideas, some of them being more opinion and meta stuff. I also may upload some Fallout lists and subjective rankings. Everyone likes a nice list, right?

Here are some slightly more advanced tips that a lot of tutorials don't mention. Certain weapons in Fallout 1 and 2 have hidden weapon perks. Hidden, as in you wouldn't know what they are without looking into the gameplay files. But they can make a huge difference in terms of effectiveness and even build. These perks include, "weapon accurate", "weapon long range", "weapon penetrate" and "weapon knockback". It would be great if the game actually told players this stuff, because it was a game changer for me. Especially the "weapon accurate" perk, which made non-small guns characters viable for me. But keep in mind that they are hidden perks. You can't choose them. So they are sort of like hidden weapon attributes. *Weapon Accurate* = 20% increased chance to hit. All shotguns have the hidden weapon accurate perk, making them ideal for characters who suck at aiming, because you get an automatic 20% increased chance to hit. Great for characters without small guns tagged either. *Weapon Long Range* = These weapons have double the effective range. Mostly applies towards rifles, energy rifles and big guns. So your ranged distance modifier determined by your perception won't have as much of an effect, meaning you can shoot from longer distances. Basically these weapons are perfect for snipers. *Weapon Penetrate* = Weapons that remove 80% of a targets damage threshold. Basically weapons that are really good at penetrating armor. These weapons are usually special. Including pulse energy weapons, the .233 pistol, power fist, ripper and a few more. *Weapon Knockback* = You guessed it. Weapons that have a higher chance to knockback a target. So sledgehammers and super sledges in addition to a few special weapons...I guess you could count rocket launchers too, but they don't technically have the weapon knockback perk. Though they do cause knockback. Source: fallout-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon_perk

I think for us the original fallout audience, those weapon perks were kinda logical. Shotguns for close and personal, 233 for long range because it is a rifle round. Knockbacks you found out the hard way

I’ve played Fallout 1 and I’m in the middle of playing Fallout 2, without Fixit or the Restoration Patch. I’ve really enjoyed it, and even though I suck at the games, and I end up accidentally ignoring half the quests, missing items, and having to use guides, I’m loving the games. My first was Fallout 3, then NV, then 4, so going back to 1 and 2 was jarring but it really was worth it And the best advice I can give is to save often, you never know when a companion will decide to blow you to pieces

@@D-mac777 I was fine, I did a very generic build for my first playthrough and had a good time, there's one thing however. The game doesn't tell you much for quests and how to do them so I spent a lot of time looking at a wiki for each quest and how to do it, other than that it was pretty great. The water running out timer seemed pretty annoying at first, but then you realize that it'd be very hard to actually make it run out.

This is really useful. I have tried to watch people play through this game for the 1st time and it's so frustrating watching them struggle through the interface. I bought this game new back in 1997 and even with the user manual that accompanied the installation CD, it was tough going. The only way I got through it was because several of my coworkers were struggling too and we compared a notes a lot. Thank you for this, i felt extra dumb and it would have stopped me from getting started. Instead, you've made the game accessible to me

its not far fetched really. These older RTS type games had a steeper learning curve than most modern ones. Simply because things either were not told to you or they were rich in content and did so much. Compared to most modern titles that baby you through the experience

I grew up with Fallout 1 and 2, as well as BG 1 and 2 and to this day those remain some of my most cherished memories and games that I play to this game. My main obstacle in these games was the english itself. It´s not my first language and those games weren´t really localised to my language for years after release, but I slowly grew to it, learned a lot and I still love to play all those OG games..

I finally gave Fallout 1 a chance. Well, a fourth chance really. First time I tried it was years ago and I put it down after I was killed by the second rat in the cave. Second time was about a year ago and I got all the way to Shady Sands but did not feel like continuing. Third time was after your video, I got all the way to the Hub, but I felt overwhelmed and uninterested. Then just last week I was itching for some "new" Fallout content and the legendarily bleak atmosphere that everyone mentions when talking about Fallout 1, and I gave the game another chance. I completed it today, and started a new playthrough with a new build. Loved it through and through. Amazing lore, total nostalgia trip, and I actually had lots of fun with almost all aspects of the game!

Should also check out Wasteland 2 and 3 (or even the first Wasteland if you're up for it). Fallout was basically made after Interplay lost the rights to Wasteland. So Wasteland borrows heavily from the Fallout themes. Minus the 50s aesthetic.

In my first playthrough back in 1997, the 12 year old me didn't know there was a aimed shot mechanic because I took "fast shot" as a trait because I thought it would be good. This reduces the AP cost of a weapon by 1 point but you cannot(!) use aimed shot. Let's just say I was quite surprised when a friend showed me the aimed shot mechanic...

  • @jesselynds5411

I save my ammo on the rats. Just agro them one at a time. Then melee them and use your remaining AP to move away. The rat will then use all of its AP just to reach you. Then hit and move away. Rinse and repeat. You can use this method on many enemies. And i strongly advise using the Fallout FIXT mod. You can disable the waterchip timer or drastically expand it so you can explore the world without being rushed. The mod also lets you hold down the "Shift" key to highlight all the interactable objects.

love these older games more and it's great to see guides still being made on them! I was introduced through fallout new vegas. played some random save file on my dads ps3 and never touched it again. then fallout 4 came out and it looked pretty cool so I went and bought fallout 3 for the ps3 and played it, liked it so I went and got fallout 4 for the xbox one, played it a lot then I played the first 2 and I liked them a lot better, played new vegas for the xbox 360 after I sold my xbox one to upgrade my pc and played that while I waited for 76 to come out. after playing a majority of the fallout games apart from the board games and the BOS on ps2 I can say. Even tho I enjoyed fallout 3 the first time around, after playing the others I began to dislike the games made by bethesda. Fallout 76 was the cherry ontop when I preordered the collectors edition. never got my nylon or canvas bag, never got a helmet or beta access infact they tried to send me my copy A MONTH after it came out but when I noticed that little detail in the shipping I raised hell. then when I got it, it was just a case with a carboard disk in it that had a download code, no tricentennial edition content included either. Bethesda basically gave me the finger even tho I did EVERYTHING they said to get it all resolved, cemented by deep dislike, almost hatred for the bethesda made fallout games

OH. New video! Yay! I'll be honest here, the first time I got to play FO2, I hated it. It was so flippin' annoying for me. But suprisingly, Fallout 1 wasn't. Maybe because of 10mm pistol you get, I think that's the reason. But I gave Fallout 2 yet another chance and wow, it was so good. I remember killing this trader in New Reno and finally getting some good stuff. Great game. Same with Fallout 1, I love the game so much, it's great. These games are so memorable, I love them. But I'll be honest here, I think you're probably a fan of the classic fallout games, not a fan of the new ones, but I just like Fallout 3 and New Vegas, one of my favourite games of all time, alongside STALKER games and all Valve games. And thanks for making great videos, mate! (Also, some of the jokes in this video remind me of this masterpiece: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKuml6Z-mJfSe7Q.html )

My man, Smithy you're quick on the draw. I didn't expect a comment for a few hours. Respect. I think FO1 definitely benefits from it's far easier early access. Getting a gun and dashing out into the world reduces the early sluggishness. But also FO1 is just, well, easier and shorter. I also feel like it has a better designed "intended but not required" path that than 2, making it less confusing. Which means that 1 really is a tutorial for 2, in a sense. Which... I'm hoping this video encourages a playthrough. Hoping I'm a good teacher. Never made a tutorial over a game before. Yeah, I'd classify myself as a Classic fan more than not. Like if you put me on a sliding scale of fan types from my first video, I'd be between Classic and Post-Classic. That's not to say I hate modern titles, I don't. There's actually a lot of things I found myself enjoying from them. My ideal game would blend the a lot of the strengths together of each style.

@@GamesTwiceOver I'll be honest, I like New Vegas more than 3, but unlike, well, 76% of this community (I'm sorry), I don't hate Fallout 3, 4 and 76. It's just kind of sad to me that people hate these games. I just want to see a Fallout game written by Chris Avellone and John Gonzalez (Maybe T. Stout too), designed by Bethesda, aka, Bethesda does everything that doesn't have anything to do with the story. Aka. gunplay, map, models, programming. I'd also want to see Obisidan's creativity (perks, wild wasteland, etc.). You're gonna kill me for that, but I'd also want Bethesda to write all the terminal entries. I'm so sorry, but I like the terminal entries and notes of FO3-76 more than NV's. Not to say they're bad, but there's just something about Bethesda's world-building that's, well, special to me, I just think these stories seem... almost real. Again, you can ban me from this channel for saying that lol, but that's what I think. And again, great video! Even though I know a lot of things about FO2, it'd still be nice to see you cover "the wackiest Fallout game".

Lol, my man, don't worry about having the opposing opinion of mine, my channel about sharing Fallout opinions. Only thing I ask is civil behavior when doing so - and you've been more than that. Besides, I wouldn't mind your theoretical setup mostly because my main concern is the possibility of writing time for post-war being eaten by pre-war. In your scenario, the "Obsidian" team would be dealing with the post-war, that makes it not a problem. Though, I think Obsidian should be allowed to give input in specific cases like Rob Co or Wattz. Also, covering 2, like a tutorial (I did mention the possibility of covering one) or a retrospective?
