Turns out Cooper had a good reason to spy on his wife. The parallels of both Cooper and Lucy finding out the people they love are actually monsters was very well done.

Betty is the same Betty who is the overseer of Vault 33. All of the overseers came from vault 31. They've all been frozen for 200 years. They are revived whenever a new overseer is needed. Vault 32 somehow found out. That's why they painted the messages on the walls about "Down with management" and "We know what's in there." I don't know why they killed themselves, though.

I imagine that some of them committed suicide because they couldn't live with the realization that they were essentially living in a petri dish. It's also safe to say that as the Vault collapsed into violence, Some people were simply not prepared to deal with that sort of thing and took it easy way out. As for the fighting, some members of 32 were probably still supportive of 31 (whether ideologically or being former 'residents'), So you had not an insignificant number of people kill each other in the chaos. If there were any survivors from that, it's possible they abandon the Vault. We know that the last time the ball door was open it was from Rose's PipBoy, but that doesn't mean it wasn't open before.

I don't think Quintus (the Elder Cleric) trusts Maximus at all. I think he believes that Maximus is a fool who covets power but isn't smart enough to cover his tracks, and is therefore an easy to manipulate pawn. He is tempting him with dreams of building a new Brotherhood and taking power, but he probably figures that if Maximus turned on him, he'd see it coming a mile away.

well that was the plan all along, wasnt it? Vault 31 to 33 management has to inherit earth and those are the only ones who are allowed to recolonize earth as they see fit. That was the plan of Hank, Buds Buds and the others all along. And therefore they must, if necessary, wipe clean whats left of the surface. No one else is allowed to recolonize, as vault tec management would not have control over that ... it is all about power and control ... as it is today

I did say this episode would break your brain. ☺ Vault 31 Overseers are generational. They thaw a new one out when the previous one ages and retires. It went Betty -> Hank, then forced back to Betty when Hank was kidnapped. Remember, Stef was from 31. The plan was for her to take over from Hank, but now she's running 32. Chet is in for a shock, I think she's a little more...brutal than the others. Remember how she wanted to get rid of all the raiders?

In all fairness to House and his talk of the investment ( Which is a big ask because the guy is twistier than a bag full of snakes), he's not just talking about a financial investment. To someone like House, An investment would also be entying his reputation to a company he is skeptical of, possibly allowing them access to his own company's intellectual properry inadvertently or otherwise with very little to gain in return, and diverting energy away from other projects and goals that he finds significantly more important. It is definitely a cold statement, especially coming from him, but there's more wrapped up in that word.

Yeah, I don't think House cared all that much about money at this point, especially given what he tells you during New Vegas. He knew the end was coming one way or another, I think he was just highly skeptical of Vault Tec's goals and how their objectives might run contrary to his.

My theory is that Barb and Janey went to a vault for senior leadership (not vault 31), and Cooper was sent to Vault 4 and was one of the first test subjects for the "ghoul serum" that was used on Thaddeus. I also think that while Moldaver's motive may have been more altruistic, she was just as ruthless as anyone. People feared her, and she associated with raiders (basically the scum of the earth). Hopefully we'll find out more answers in season 2.

Their daughter was with Cooper at the birthday party when the bombs dropped.... which is one argument as to why it may not have been Vault-Tec who dropped the first bomb because Barb was very invested in protecting her daughter. If Barb knew Vault-Tec was going to start it, she would have likely had her daughter with her in the vault already and not out at a random birthday party somewhere in LA.
