Barb is not in 31. Vault 31 is "Bud's buds" which were the junior executives that Bud was training. Barb was not a junior executive in "Bud's buds." She's one of the executives who is either at the same level or above Bud in the company. The show implies she's above him on several occasions. If she is alive she is wherever management went, not where the trainees ended up. The three vaults connected with a vault of managers is not how other vaults are set up, either. That was just Bud's experiment. Most if not all of the other vaults are not connected to any other vaults, like what you saw with vault 4. Also, not sure if you caught that Betty was the assistant who brought Hank in to meet Cooper at Vault-Tec.

To further back this up, there is a brief moment where you can see the occupants of Vault 31 on a computer screen, and her name is not on the list, so she's definitely elsewhere in the Wasteland. I hope they explain more about the connection between Moldaver and Vault 4. We can assume, since she remained mostly unaged in the grand scheme of things, that she was in one of the cryo pods in Vault 4 at some point, and they clearly worship her almost as a deity, so I really hope we get to see the end of that story, even though she died at the end of the season.

While Vault-Tec intended to end the world, I don't think they got the chance, Barb would have made sure her family, very least her child, was already secure in a vault when the bombs fell. I also don't believe Barb and possibly the daughter are in Vault 31, the 3 vault experiment was Buds experiment to "breed" middle management, so I don't think Barb would be in that vault, presuming she made it to one at all.

We don't know if Barb and the daughter made it to a vault, but we are intended to believe that Cooper thinks they did. He was with the daughter, but now he isn't. There had to have been something that happened, that caused them to be separated.

I might be wrong, but I've always held the idea that it doesn't actually matter who started the GW, because the point is that it was inevitable. Several characters knew it was coming. From the games, we know Vault Tec could have done it because the bomb in Megaton has their logo. At the same time, both America and China were planning it. A DLC even hints that Aliens could be feasibly responsible. Point being, everyone either knew it was happening, was in denial about it happening, or actively planning to start it. I doubt the show will definitively say that VT started it.

  • @CollideFan1

    @CollideFan1

    25 күн бұрын

I think VT did start it but not as planned as they intended. They mention the peace talks with China, if those peace talks were going so good to the point of a treaty being signed, the head of VT may have said screw it and started the war. Since this didn't go as planned, Janey would have been visiting her father instead of being with Barb. Since they don't have cell phones, Barb was unable to get a hold of Cooper and probably didn't know where he was at.

The Shadowy figure at the meeting - My speculation and at the end a comment by one of the original creators of Fallout 1. . . . . . I think that the shadowy figure is the President of the US. If you remember back in the opening of Ep1 (I think it's even the first line spoken of the show) a newscaster says that the President is still not accounted for and no one knows where he is. I think the President knew very well what was going on with the Vaults and already had plans in motion for where he would end up (i.e. not one of the vaults with Experiments). One of the original developers of Fallout 1 has a channel here on KZread where he talks about making games and also specific stories about Fallout and how it was made. He said in a video that their original plan with Vaults was that they should all be related to taking humanity into space. * they tested for inbreeding in a limited population (how many do you need in a space ship for it to not cause issues with genetics and inbreeding), * they tested food suppy (one Vault only served the same thin gruel every day because doing that during space travel would solve a lot of issues compared to having "real food" such as bread or meat). * they tested what would happen if things constantly were to break down and how people would cope mentally having their existence on the line if water or air or food or other systems kept breaking. * they tested constant, limited radiation exposure (one Vault had a faulty door so radiation kept leaking inside, turning the people there into ghouls) ... etc. The more recent games have had different goals such as training kids to be come super soldiers, using non-colunteers for genetic experiments to make radiation resistant humans (mutants).

From what I've gathered on the show, Barb was a lot higher up than the Executive Assistants brought into the Bud's Buds program. The Vault 31-32-33 was his project. That's why it was weird for us Fallout fans to see the interconnected vaults shown as they were at the beginning of the show. That wasn't ever a thing in the games. I think that was only allowed as part of Bud's own vault experiment - to have Vault-Tec executive assistants frozen in 31, and then released periodically to have them brought in to 32 and 33 to be the Overseer. I don't think Barb would be in those vaults though since she said in the middle of the season that she was positioned to get into one of the 'good vaults' that would oversee the rest of them. In the meeting with the other companies, she looks up in a gallery that's overlooking the conference room to someone that is shadowed from us seeing who it is. I think that's the sort of people Cooper was referring to when he said "There's always someone behind the wheel". He's looking to find the people Barb would have been reporting to; I think that would be the best chance for him finding out where Barb and Janey are. As with Barb proposing that they drop the bombs themselves, I think for sure Vault-Tec had a plan to do so, but I don't think they actually were the ones to first drop them on the day of The Great War. There are many references in the game that have me sure of that. In Fallout 4's Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, you can build your own vault, Vault 88.. and in the terminals, it's mentioned that they were still very early in the building phase, as when you enter, only the first few rooms were actually built. I doubt Vault-Tec would've dropped the bombs before finishing their other vaults. There's another vault in Fallout 4 that you visit for a main quest that's built in a subway tunnel, and that one as well was still in the middle of construction. As you pointed out, Cooper had Janey with him for a birthday party gig the day the bombs dropped. I doubt Barb would have let Janey be with her father had Vault-Tec been planning to drop the bombs on that exact day. No doubt they would have, but I think someone else beat them to it in the end. It'll be really interesting to see how New Vegas has been getting on since the events of the game as this show takes place 15 years afterwards. I'm curious what sort of ending would be considered canon and if we'll see more of Mr. House (who was in that board meeting representing RobCo) either in the current time or in flashbacks. Seeing the deathclaw skull also had me hoping they'll finally show those in the show next season. Especially with them being all over the Mohave. LoL

For sure. Also, waiting for humanity to die out is a stupid idea anyway. The more time passes the more the surface population will grow and unify (not as one, obviously, but still, into powerful groups). The thing to do would have been to house a powerful armed force in at least several vaults spread around the US, and come out a lot sooner to wipe out the surface survivors, who’d be in bad shape, ill-equipped, and disorganized.

Moldaver didn't need to get in a vault to freeze herself. She was a high level scientist, doing classified research. I'm sure she could have known about any number of laboratories that had cryo pods but weren't vaults, yet were still high security facilities that would survive the blasts. After all, Vault 31 wasn't for scientists. There wasn't any research going on there, so it's not like Vault 31 invented cryo pods. They just filled it with pods that had been invented and built somewhere else. They were in many places, and Moldaver would probably have known about them. She was an enemy of Vault-Tec even back then, so I don't think they'd let her in, or that she's even want to go in a vault. What I wonder is why she came out when she did.

Nothing like finding out the people you love the most are nothing but evil mass murderers. Lucy is broken now, probably like how Cooper was before he became a ghoul. Hopefully with Cooper starting to get his humanity back, he can steer her in the right direction instead of the dark path he took. She's now on a slippery slop of falling down that dark path. And with Barb, like Samantha I thought Barb was a low level Vault-tec employee until this episode. With the power she appears to hold, she may be number 2 in the Vault-Tec ranks. That person in the shadows is probably the one in charge. Samantha thinks a Gulper was something to be feared? A gulper has nothing on what a Deathclaw is. Just mentioning one of those things will send the fear in a wastelander.

So many reactors don't notice all the red flags about Barb the whole season. I was suspicious of her from the first episode she appeared in. When Cooper asked the Vault-tec people if the vaultsuit really blocks out radiation, they glance at Barb like, oh crap what do we say? And Barb gives them a quick nod and then they obviously lie and say yes of course it does. Then she keeps gaslighting him whenever he starts questioning the vaults and vault-tec, and she's in charge of the after party, without Coopers acknowledgment or approval in his house. I have a theory that in the first scene we see of the bombs dropping, we cut away JUST as a vertibird shows up over Cooper and his daughter as they try to outrun the blasts. But since Cooper and Barb are divorced, there is not a spot for Cooper in the vault planned for Barb and their daughter. So they end up swooping down and only pick up Janney and leave Cooper to be hit by the radiation and die. Only we know now that he turned into a ghoul and now is looking for his family.

For me his standout was in The Shield, one of the early wave of shows like The Wire and Sopranos that did a grittier, more nuanced style. The Shield's grainy-digital, handheld-camera style might be a bit jarring now, but very early 2000's it was all the rage, because it meant shows could be recorded much more cheaply, so more money could go to getting actors and writers, rather than the raw materials to record with (film stock and good lighting is EXPENSIVE). It's well worth a look if you like either of those other shows.

Oh damn! I was playing FO4, so I didn't see this dropped! I'm so excited to see what you guys think of this finale to the season. ETA: Okay, now that I've watched it, I can comment. What Barb said was "Because we'll drop the bomb ourselves." Singular. So, I think what happened is that Vault-Tec planned on dropping a bomb to instigate the Great War, but China beat them to it by bombing first. Hence why Janey was with Cooper when they began to fall. My guess is that Sam is right and Barb is in the mythical 'Vault 0' with the other C-Suite executives from Vault-Tec. Lucy really had it hard this episode! Imagine going through all that to save your father, only to find out that he nuked your mom along with 30k other people. I have a feeling that this next season is going to have a lot of character growth for her as she comes to terms with what he did and what she may have to do once she finds him. From where I'm standing, she very well could end up shooting him. As for Maximus... oh, man. This guy just got thrown into the center of the hornets' nest. Now that he knows what it's like outside of the Brotherhood (and he saw what they did at the observatory), I don't think he has quite the same convictions as before. I do think he still respects the idea of being a knight, but this means he's going to be chafing under the Brotherhood's yoke soon enough. Having Dane around is such a boon. I really think they would make a great companion for him until he can reunite with Lucy. I can't wait for the next season to drop, so in the meantime, I'm dumping a ton of hours into the newer games (I had only played 1&2 before). I started with FO4 (I know, I know!), and I've really enjoyed it thus far. New Vegas is next on the list. Thank you for sharing your reactions with us!

If you want more Walton PLEEEEEEEEEEASE react to his breakout role in The Shield. It is right up your alley. I was sandwiched between The Sopranos and Breaking Bad as one of those TV dramas that changed how TV was made. EXCELLENT show. I can not recommend it enough. I was nominated for 6 emmy's and won 14 awards from all the various awards shows at the time. aired from 2002-2008 so only 6 season. Tight season length's, like 10to 13 episodes. Walton is in every single one and it actually wraps up it's story without feeling like it wnet too long or left too much unanswered. Has one of the greatest endings to a series ever. PLEASE throw it on the watch list for the channel. I have been begging other tv react channels to get to it but everyone always has to do The Sopranos and The wire first. It's the perfect time for you guys to tackle it. Take care.

Fallout demonstrates the superiority (IMHO) of streaming vs. network broadcast TV. The number of episodes is based on how long it takes tell the story, not a contract for X number. Also, each episode is as long or short as it takes for the episode. There are no predetermined pauses for commercials. The questions left for season 2: Who is "behind the wheel" as Cooper said? Is that who Hank is headed to see? What happened to Cooper's family? What happens to Norm? What happens in vaults 31, 32, and 33? What happens to Maximus? Will he stay in the Brotherhood or go find Lucy? What happens when (if?) Lucy is reunited with her father? I CAN'T WAIT! Update: I forgot the following unbresolved questions: What is the Enclave and their connection to the vaults, given how much Wilzig knew about Vault 33 and Lucy's name . . . What happens to the cold fusion device? What happens to Thaddeus? Who still has nuclear bombs and the means to use them?

Hey guys, great reaction.😊 Ok, couple of things I want to say. - All those suggestions on what those corporate heads wanted to do w/the Vaults are actual experiments mentioned in the games. There are a handful of Vaults that are known as "Control" Vaults in which no experiments are done, but a majority have some sort of experiment. If u remember, Vault 4 was a genetic experiment to see whether or not human beings can have better resistance to radiation by combining them genetically w/radioactive resistant species. That's how they ended up w/the Gulpers. O, as far as I know, that Tri-Vault System w/31,32 & 33 is the only one like that. It was done specifically for "Bud's Buds".32 & 33 contained a carefully selected "breeding pool" to create super managers. Vault 32 found out they were being used as lab rats & revolted. I don't know if Chet will save the day, being he's now in Vault 32. Remember, in the beginning, Vault 33 didn't even know something bad had happened in Vault 32. - Vault-Tec could have dropped the bombs ahead of schedule. Barb is a senior executive, but she had no control over when the bombs were gonna drop. More than likely, it was "Mr. Big" up in the shadows of the observation deck. - 1st thing I saw Walton Goggins in was the TV series THE SHEILD (2002-2008). His character Shane was annoying & an a-hole, but The Ghoul is my favorite character in the FALLOUT series..😊 Lucy is my close 2nd. I'm glad they are teamed up for next Season. - Well, I guess that's all I wanted to say.😊

@@ISavant Max's self-perception as the lawful/good protector of the righteous occasionally run into conflict with his actual motivations and actions. With the death of knight Titus, he could justify his (in)action by telling himself that Titus was a liability to the organization and the mission. Thaddeus didn’t really turn on Maximus. All he says about the reveal is that the Brotherhood was going to kill him. Like you said, Maximus isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer and, to me, it felt like Thaddeus was trying to point out the very real direness of the situation. Maximus immediately took it as “I knew I couldn’t trust you” and tried to kill him. And after that Thaddeus was kinda just fighting to survive. On first watch we side with Maximus because he’s one of our main characters and we’re invested in empathizing with him. But on rewatch it hits different and seems more like Thaddeus feels the weight of what he learns with the reveal and his understanding of what it means for their situation. Maximus was in denial about it since he was raised by the cult and is a true believer at that point. He’s really thinks the Brotherhood will forgive his actions since they were upholding the “honor of the suit.”

I have enjoyed your reaction videos for the Fallout show. For season 2, I am most interested to watch the dynamic between Coop and Lucy. Coop can tell Lucy a lot about what he has witnessed in the couple of hundred years since the Great War. I got the impression he has traveled around in the last 200+ years, so he may know about other parts of the USA. He can even tell her what he knows about Vault-Tec. I wonder how Lucy will feel when she learns Coop has replaced the finger she bit off with her finger he cut off. Will Lucy learn that she grew up watching Coop's movies? No dogs in the vaults meant Lucy has never hung around with a dog before. How will she react to that? I am interested in both Maximus's story and Norm's story. I think Norm has a number of possibilities before he has get in his dad's cryo pod and write himself out of the story. Will Max start being smarter about thinking things through before acting? We have seen him do some smart stuff, but he is short-sighted and doesn't plan ahead. He hasn't been good under pressure, though he maybe improving in that area. (He definitely had his Han Solo in the detention center moment when the Brotherhood called Knight Titus for his situation report.)

But I have now been officially promised a Deathclaw fight in season 2, just so the producers are aware of that. I didn't expect one in this season because the NCR should have basically eliminated the most dangerous mutated animals back when they controlled California and they shouldn't have really moved back into the area too much since Shady Sands got crushed. A Yao Guai was perfect for a season 1, and we got radroaches and a different kind of gulper too. Nobody but the Ghoul could possibly do anything other than suck and die against a Deathclaw yet.
