The irony of the brotherhood, is that they were never meant to start out as hoarding technology. They originally were supposed to safeguard dangerous tech from the pre war and protect what was left of humanity. From where they began as former us military soldiers, to a faction that is often divided upon their ideology.

It really comes down to who was your first introduction the BoS. Maxen was more along the line of knight Shin's thinking. While Lyons was more along Paladin Rahmani's. I've always been keen with the thinking of eldar Lyons. I like to think of the Brotherhood as protectors who are still in touch with humanity. Able to set aside their doctrine and dogma to be able to help those in need.

Sorry but Roger isn't like that. Maybe I'm wrong since we know so little and we weren't there in person to know everything but his ideaology or however you say it were to save people and make allies to protect technology. But they became a greedy bunch of asshole no offence to those who like them but thats how it is and relied on things like the prydwen which was extremely vulnerable and dude they had a hard time fueling it and also coundnt move it since it used so much fuel, in the west i think they used army cars and invited anyone including ghouls and supermutant so how come the Bos went so low deep that down that they became greedy. Bad leadership thats what. anyway srry for bringing that long ass text but i just wanted to tell why they aren't what they used to be. Feel free to reply anyway you want.

Roger Maxson formed the brotherhood to protect humanity. It was orginally founded ao that they would work closely with the people of the wasteland and was orginally a fighting force to protect wastelanders, but eventually they saw and knew Technology in the wrong hands would be dangerous so they started preserving tech so it couldnt be used to do wrong. They were open to recruiting outsiders originally. But eventually a Isolationist group started forming and Roger Maxson son was one of the isolationist basically they think they shouldn't recruit from the outside world and not interact with the wasteland as much only if needed, and to focus on preserving tech. Rahmani falls under Maxsons ideal which is to Protect Humanity and to Preserve technology so that it can be used for good. Knight Shin is open to recruiting outsiders (He was also a outsider and I think raised in the BoS after being taken in) but he is to fervent in his belief that the BoS main focus is to get technology and if it's bad it should be destroyed. Personally I think Technology should be studied to better people in the wasteland and if it's bad tech it should also be studied mainly to find out if there are ways deal with this dangerous technology maybe even make it useful to humanity but studying it must be closely watched to make sure those studying it dont get bad ideas. I didnt choose to kill Knight Shin I think he should make his way west and report what's happening so that they know that Yeah they made it and Rahmani is doing things her way against some their codes. Also Rahmani gives me Elder Lyons vibes. He decided to protect people and use tech ology for good rather than preserve it.

I wonder how these four different outcomes will play out in future content. After all, they are different enough to affect the whole game world, not just the instanced areas. Shin could return with the main force of the BoS, having all Appalachian factions as enemy target. Actually, it would be a mild surprise if it really played out any way. There were millions of chances for branching story paths in FO76 even before, yet this is the first time it happens. I'm not sure Bethesda would want to leave this "determined ending" path, unless FO76 becomes more important for them than before and they highly increase the budget.

I based my decision on the brotherhood of fallout 1 and 2 as in the games time the brotherhood should still be fairly new. I fall in between the two sides but went with the knight in the end because he seems more in line with the brotherhood as a whole at that time in fallout. They will help those that need it when they can but not if it comes at a cost to them, more of a convenience or to prevent something worse happening down the line. Of course you could make the case that in fallout 1 the brotherhood eventually helped the wasteland with the super mutants so you side with the paladin.

Shin clearly can soften and be made to care, Romani just felt like this was more for her own image.

"i can fix him" lets be honest with ourselves here. neither one of them is a great choice. you got one who is a sociopath thats obsessed with appearances for the sake of manipulating others to her will, and the other is also a sociopath with unchecked phychotic tendencies. lets face it: if the brotherhood hadnt gotten to him first then shinn wouldve been a raider warlord. as for the fev.. the virus in its original form would actually be a great boon to post war humanity. the original virus mutated plants in such a way that they could grow in almost any environment, could get rid of radiation, and were super producers of edible parts. from what we know, the whole program was actually extremely successful with little to no negative reprocussions. it wasnt until the military got involved, took over the program, and demanded wes-tek start creating super soldier serums with it that the excrement hit the proverbial fan. rahmani is correct in her assumption that the fev does actually have potential to aid humanity.. it just needs to be reverted back to its original state. we also know, thanks to fallout 4, that there is indeed a cure for fev. something which if the rahmani ending were canon, instead of shinns ending, couldve been discovered long before.

for me it came down to a REALLY good point the scientists made: people with academic knowledge are RARE and no one gets a formal education anymore (besides maybe boS scribes, and even then it may be lacking in pre-war knowledge). And hey, after all isnt it the brotherhood's goal to safekeep knowledge? It sounde like having them work/teach under strict supervision is exactly what the BoS is about. And sure they are scum of the highest degree (exceprt maybe farha who could see reason) but with the state of the world, humanity can ill afford to kill scientists.

I let her live, but after listening to the scientists I couldn’t let them live. 2 of them were still going to experiment with FEV, and I can’t have that. Edit: I’d also like to add that there’s similarities of this decision akin to that of our own history. Nazi scientists were spared even after conducting human experiments, that actually benefited society as a whole. But even with that information I can’t let them live like our forfathers let Nazi scientists live, their past actions don’t justify the overall benefit that can be gained by letting them live. But that’s just my opinion

Yea same here. The final decision really infuriated me because I was such a fan of Rahmani during the entire quest line (even flirted with her). I couldn't stand being forced to play nice with the BoS and she seemed to be my only avenue of fucking them over. But the fact that she was so adamant on saving the scientists despite being all about protecting the people? And there was absolutely no dialogue option on the fact that the scientists say they're gonna try to finish their work? I would have sided with Rahmani if i was able to intimidate the scientists into abandoning their goals, maybe having me destroy their files. Or if i was able to convince her that they were literally gonna do the same shit. If there was anyone in that conversation who felt betrayed, it was me. I ended up (unfortunately) siding with Shin and went to work popping the scientists heads off with the Facebreaker (and that redhead lady died on her own bc she stabbed me and procced my 5% chance poison armor). I left Rahmani alive though. She might have some dog shit takes sometimes. But i feel as if we are all better off if she makes her own militia full of people who want to help. And i guess maybe the BoS is better off staying the BoS. It would probably be best if it remained the same monster everyone knows it as.

my overall stance is that i agree with Rahmani that the brotherhood should interact with its neighbours, and well safeguard the knowledge of the scientists rather than destroy it (almost NO ONE alive has academic knowledge anymore, just keep them supervised and away from ANY FEV research and it should be fine), but also shin is right that the brotherhood must not lose sight of itself. Do not give around technology willy nilly (tiny, controlled amounts are fine like the single rocket launcher I left to the village in the middle of the goddamn swamp, especialy as the raiders threatening them have similar weapons), DO NOT negociate with raiders unless you can screw them in the deal and it is strictly necessary (I see them as barely better than super mutants overall), and lastly, reestablish contact with the main brotherhood so it stays united instead of creating an offshoot that is the brotherhood only in name

I'd like to see the ousted NPC appear leading a small band of outcast-type Brotherhood, in a one-time random encounter. Maybe it'd keep appearing until you delt with them, but they'd likely be hostile to you every time. I like the BOS Outcasts in general, so siding with Rahmani comes naturally. If I could loot her outfit though, I'd side with Shin lol

Honestly Id have like to be a voice between the two: Detain one, kill another, exile the last. At least SOME measure of justice then could be done for BOTH sides. Rahmani has the Brotherhoods ORIGINAL purpose in her heart. Shins an isolation hardass. God I hope we get to meet Roger himself soon

First time doing this, I sided with Rahmani as I had a bleeding heart and couldn't bring myself to kill Blackburn's co-workers. Kind of my way of life with NPCs in video games. Fallout 76, Skyrim, or even Metal Gear Solid 4 with the Beauty and the Beast Unit, I show mercy and spare their lives. Plus, having looked over the stats regarding The Catalyst, most players sided with Rahmani over Shin. Over 80% even. So I wasn't the only one who was against following Shin and committing cold-blooded murder just to remain loyal to the Elders, Rifle Gaming. I was for Rahmani and protecting humanity, period, especially in a world ruined by WWIII.

İ will pick Shin's side, but let Rahmani live, of course. She is good, but her ways are dangerous and cost too much for the Brotherhood. You should help people, of course, but if it is not too risky, and not sacrifice your people for that. She is а good woman, but a bad leader. And looks like she just tries hide her fail and save herself. Shin's first objective is collecting technologies and gaining strenght, and it is right. He can help people after that. He wanted to kill those scientists for their awful crimes, tell the elders the truth, so he is not a bad man.

I generally sided with Rahmani, though Shin did grow on me a bit, but those scientists definitely shouldn't be allowed to continue their research. Even if they had been kept under control (unlikely) the public perception of the brotherhood would be forever tainted by allowing them to go unpunished and continuing to work with them. Hope Rahmani gets a benevolent community going elsewhere but i just couldn't abide by her decision there. P.s. Valdez is the most level-headed and should be in charge tbh.

Shin ending is the true Brotherhood ending, Rahmani is much more in-line with post Owens Brotherhood philosophy, which is decades too early. If you play FO1, FO2 and FONV, you'll see that Shin's philosophy is much more true to the Brotherhood mentality for the time of FO76. Additionally... Worse than an evil person who knows they're evil, is an evil person who believes they are doing good. Those scientists by the end of the questline are akin to the Master in FO1, kidnapping people and transforming them into Super Mutants for "the great of mankind". Brotherhood took an oath to destroy Unity and Muties, keeping those doctors for "research" is not in-line with the brotherhood.
