Ойындар

Fallout 76 returns for a quick look at the new Custom Worlds mode, remixing the existing game into some potentially interesting new shapes. Except, of course, it wouldn't be Fallout 76 if something hadn't gone wrong on the way...

    "There are private servers now, with the ability to create custom rulesets and the ability to turn off weapon degradation." That... actually sounds pretty nice. I blew off the game at launch, then was disappointed by all of the... obvious stuff about it afterwards. I was kind of curious about Wastelanders, but not enough to convince me to dive in. This could finally be something interesting enough to check out this game and experience some of its good points for mysel... When companies pull this kind of crap I just watch their paid advertisers play it, not saying Many A True Nerd is payed but a good amount of youtubers/twitch streamers get most of or all the expensive stuff for free. Why get frustrated at paying a ton for a broken game and then feeling ripped off when I can laugh at someone else struggle who got it for free? Want all this BS to stop: Stop buying pre-orders, stop buying DLC that should have been included in the game (clearly missing from the game and story doesn't make sense without it) stop believing the hype and wait to see real in game footage of actual gameplay. Start watching streams or videos that don't involve to many spoilers but give you a good idea of what you're going to get for your money, and don't give in when faced with this so called "dilemma" you're having, if you have to convince yourself it's worth it, IT'S NOT, that's all it really takes. Once companies see this crap won't be tolerated they'll go back to the way it was, selling FULLY TESTED GAMES WITH NO MISSING CONTENT TO PAY FOR LATER (for the most part), the crappy ones left will be the ones feeding off the cash cows who buy everything without question, but as long as regular gamers feed into games like this that are made for cash cows nothing will change.

Or because they see that people still enjoy the Fallout series, but maybe not 76? I think it's a bit of a leap to say FO76 was a success based on the company selling well, when they have made a lot of games than that. Plus, I mainly want a game that's good to play, not a game that's a massive financial success, Candy Crush and Angry Birds are massive financial successes, but not the most interesting games for me. I think generally when people talk about fixing games they mean fixing it so it's a better experience to play, not a fix on how to make it a financial success for the creators.

    I consider it an improvement as before, it was an utterly useless system where all it did was force you to carry a few food and drink items for ZERO benefits. Now you do get benefits (and those are actually quite significant for how little you need to do. 1 STR, 1 END, 80% Disease Immunity, 20% faster AP regen - plus the Overeater Legendary effect if you got that) VS what we had before (the absolute NOTHING). If anything, I now pay MORE attention to eating than I did before where I often ended up nearly starving because it made not enough of a difference. And now those that, in fact, don't want to play with enforced eating and drink just... can. In the previous system, while it was forgettable, it was still mandatory (and a toggle option to turn things off would be basically disabling the forgettable drawbacks, so everyone would have just turned it off if that would've been an option). So, yes, how they do it now is a far surperior system.

    Worlds seems like a cool update, but as usual and like you said, the execution is just so poor. The idea of paying a monthly fee for what most people would consider a customizable single-player expansion to the game is so counterintuitive it makes my head spin. I'm probably approaching the 2000 hour mark for play time in this game, and I still refuse to pay for f1st just on principle of how they have been handling this kind of thing. I look at worlds and see so much potential for community servers, offline challenge runs, a gateway into fully and properly modding the game. I may just be living in denial but I feel like it just has to be a matter of time until they completely revamp this system and fix the glaring flaws, because it's an amazing mode that does basically nothing in its current state

    1. To make the most of this you need the Marsupial mutation. The reason nuclear jumping doesn't seem that impressive is that your standard jump is miniscule. Add Strange in numbers and a mutated team member and you'll actually be able to jump. 2. You forgot to mention the worst part of Worlds. Fallout 76 is a game all about progression. That's like the only thing here, the only point. But each instance of worlds is completely separate. When you join a world a new instance of your character is created and no progression carries over. Join a bunch of public ones and a few friends and you can have 30 versions of your character, 29 of which can't complete challenges or achievements. 3. Moving camp costing money is negligible. It's almost impossible to not be able to afford it. That and fast travel are so cheap it doesn't make sense to even have them at all, but it's not like they matter that much.

Character progression on Public Worlds does not persist after the limited time event ends" So they give a bit more freedom...but in the free version, you can't progress any challenges and any xp you gain is locked to that public world, which changes every month undoing all progress in the process, basically making it completely worthless.

  • @ZeonicFenrir
    @ZeonicFenrir2 жыл бұрын

    Jon, I think you missed a couple of QoL changes over the past year, since some things you mentioned do have been addressed, even if not very noticeable at first glance: -Hunger and thirst no longer cause debuffs, but rather they provide much minor buffs if you have them filled up. The bars look the same, but if you stop eating or drinking, you will notice nothing happens if you just let them be (before they turned red and you would begin noticing all sorts of debuffs). -Weapon degradation has been significantly improved for most of the weapons that had the bigger issues, namely weapons with explosive effects and large number of impacts. In other words, explosive weapons no longer massively degrade if hitting large mobs of enemies, which could even cause a missile launcher with double durability to break in one shot, nor weapons like the laser gun with scatter mod, which broke down quickly due to the number of hits it counted. I now carry both a missile launcher and a laser gun with the aforementioned mode without worrying that they will break after firing them one or for a few seconds respectively. That being said, while I only buy single months of FO1st whenever there's a bonus item that interests me, I have zero interest in Fallout Worlds, whether they are custom or public worlds, for one simply reason: no progression. Let me explain: Other additions in the past couple of years were the gold bullion currency, the seasons and the legendary perk system. Gold bullion has some restrictions in how you get it, but the most foolproof way to get it is doing a set of daily quests, which will grant you treasure notes which you can then turn into gold bullion. Second way is buying up to 300 gold bullion for 6000 caps per week, which translate into weekly caps farming if you go with the method. Last way is to complete events and get random amounts of treasure notes. Obviously you mileage will vary depending on your character, so some people might be more reliant on the first two methods, while someone else might get the bulk of his treasure notes from events. Today the cap for trading them has been doubled from the original amount, but it does mean that you can't just farm a bunch of these and trade them at once, but rather may have to do so over several days. Second, the seasons basically provides a bunch of "free" items, including stuff that would normally be added to the Atomic shop instead, as long as you play the game and complete the daily and weekly challenges. Again, your mileage will vary here, specially since some builds that allow easier EXP farming can complete the lone repeatable challenge to complete the season pass faster. On the other hand, people that can't afford to play daily and that can' exploit the aforementioned challenge can end up behind, ultimately being left with the choice to not complete the season board or spend atoms to get the ranks they are missing if they are aiming for a particular rank reward. Then there's the legendary perk system, which simply put rewards you for reaching certain level milestones, up to level 300, by unlocking legendary perk slots, which further need you to earn perk coins, from scrapping regular perk cards, to upgrade legendary perk cards. Basically you are required to level up A LOT. Now, some players have already reached levels past 700 or even 1,000. In my case I joined the game a couple months before Wastelanders, and while I've been playing almost daily, I'm still currently only level 240+, so I'm still away from the 300 mark for unlocking my final perk legendary perk slot and a lot further from getting enough perk coins to level them up to their possible maximum. Just consider this: if you are lucky enough to get a god roll in this mode, you can't take it back to your regular character. In short: There's more daily grind and playing a mode that doesn't help your progression feels wasteful. Even basic things like getting exp, caps or junk for maintaining your gear will not count if done in custom/public worlds, so a lot of people are just looking at this update as a literal waste of time. I know that from a content creator that does challenges, the mode does seem enticing, but for your average player, it's simply not.

    I usually like weapon degradation (it can balance otherwise broken weapons) but in fo76 it's just terrible. In fo3 there were repairmen in every settlement, in new vegas they added repair kits and ede. But to go back to your camp or scavenge constatly in late game is trash. They created a problem to sell the solution.

    Just balance broken weapons with limited ammo. It's just not fun to not want to use your good weapons because they degrade quickly...

    @@Daepilin The perk card that reduces weapon degradation, and the perk to give things double endurance negates the frustration. And F76 does have repair kits, which I almost never used because I had no issue with it.

    All I'm hoping is that Worlds is Bethesda's way of testing the servers for mod stability in the future. I really have zero interest in playing Worlds since you don't make progress tied to your main account. I understand why, since Worlds is technically cheating. All we want is mod support lol Honestly I'm happy to see you seemingly having fun with this video without just trash talking the game the entire time. We can all agree that 76 had a horrific launch but the game has truly become good in my eyes. It's not amazing by any means but it's brought me hours and hours of good memories both playing alone and with friends. I can only hope for better things in the future of 76.

    I kinda want the Modding community to make a Single player version of 76 using 4’s gameplay mechanics. Or wish that one day Bethesda would just rerelease 76 as a stand only fallout game, If either of those ever happened I would definitely play 76, but with the online always crashing and the gameplay/ world always having to many problems it just isn’t worth playing in its current form. Don’t get me wrong 76 sounded cool on paper, but the final product is far from what the devs were probably trying to do. Maybe with them being under Microsoft now, they may revisit fallout online, but for now I just want another main entry Fallout. Hey at least we are getting Outer Worlds 2, and Stalker 2 also looks really good.

    The only Thing 76 Shared with 4 was the gunplay, everything else was changed, Vats was underpowered, The level up system was changed to the card base system, The crafting mechanics weren’t as good as 4, and the whole game up until recently felt life less. Which was kinda sad really considering all the work that was put into the map. Like Jon said in the video 76’s map was one of the best Bethesda ever created, yet it never really felt lived in, unlike fallout 4’s Boston which is pact with all sorts of enemies and NPC. Fallout 76’s world is nice, but outside of the main quest line, you never really had a reason to explore the map. Except for maybe a few in game events. One extra reason 4 is better then 76 is Modding on both the PC and Xbox. I stand by what said earlier in my last comment if Fallout 76 was just a mainline entry that took the gameplay aspects from the last 3 games, it would have made for a good Fallout, but as it sits it is and forever will be the worst entry in the franchise.

    They've also done a lot of tuning of weapon degradation so it's rarely a major issue with most weapons and easily mitigated by running with Gunsmith 5 equipped.

    Same, it's one of the things missing from modern (if I can still say that... is Skyrim retro yet?) mainline Bethesda games imo - adds some extra depth to equipment choice, and suits Fallout especially. Good equipment in full working order should be a valuable resource and rarity.

    @@smonkponk I didn’t play much 76 to be honest, however I found fallout 4 disappointing, with the new workshop mechanics weapon condition would’ve been perfect. Breaking down guns to use the parts to repair yours, maybe being able to use crude materials that would give a big boost to condition but in return degrade faster. And weapon jamming was always a fun (albeit frustrating as intended) mechanic in my opinion. Even if it was only survival mode. Fallout just isn’t the same for me anymore but they have a newer target audience. I preferred when they did their own thing rather than conforming to the mainstream but they are a business so can’t blame them
