Some other really important and AWESOME things to know about chems: - You can put an add-on effect on some pieces of armor that give 50% increased chem duration. This stacks multiplicatively with the chemist perk. So if you have rank 4 Chemist for 200% increased duration. And then get two pieces of gear for 100% bonus duration from armor. You don't go to 400% total duration. You go to 600%. My Psychojet hits last around 2 minutes long. (It's actually annoying somethimes! lol) And longer lasting chem buffs last me so long I can literally maintain their buffs permanently without ever running out of drugs. - Combining drugs gives you more powerful effects than if you use them individually most of the time. For example, buffout normally only gives 2 Str, 2 End, and 50HP. If you combine it with Psycho you get Psychobuff, which gives 3str, 3end, and 65 HP. On top of Psycho's normal effects. So mix those drugs! You get more out of them! - Finally, different named drugs will stack on top of each-other, even if they have the same effects. So if you take buffout, Psychobuff, and Bufftats, you will get the strength, endurance, and HP boosts from all three of those drugs on top of one another. You can become an absolute GOD stacking drugs this way.

+juan rosales is it bad that i dont use chems but just because i have a survivalist build type i only eat meat and use stimpaks rarley and on super rare ocasions i use radaway i have 15 of this from drops alone.

imagine instead of going to the doctor and paying 75 caps u have to take a 12 step program or go to rehab for a months worth of "game time". each day of rehab costs 100 caps. and the "rehab facility" is nothing but ol school arcade games like pong and donkey kong or tetris and its all designed like a really nice cottage by the beach.

epictacosamich That's how it used to work in the classic Fallout games, in fact the only way to cure addiction was by waiting, except for Jet, it would never go away and you had to complete a quest to get the cure. Imo that was a better way of doing it than just taking a magical poti-- cure or talking to the shama-- doctor and asking him to remove the addiction

You can craft it from common components. It let's crit with 25% of your attacks not requiring VATS or luck, and +20% dmg. Seriously the strongest thing in the game, I don't know how people have never used it

Jet also lets you jump farther. It doesn't advertise this, but I've tested it, and you do go farther. In some situations, it can let you make jumps that would otherwise be fatal to attempt.

chem perks are amazing in the game. helps you out in combat, gaining more exp, speech checks and gaining more caps. if you're a completionist and are playing on survival, I think this is a no brainer. :D

my build is built upon demolitions and chemist. then i get a weapon with the junkie legendary stat. build up my addictions and just go nuts with fatmans and missile launchers.

If you're going to take Overdrive, you should always pair it with Jet Fuel. They have the same duration, and compliment each other well (Jet Fuel grants you +35 Max AP and Increased AP regen for 8 minutes. Considering all you need to make Jet Fuel is Jet (1) and Flamer Fuel (5) (hence the name), it can be one of the most plentiful chems in the game.

I use chems on survival, jet and psychojet are musts. Tip: make sure your weapon is fully reloaded prior to using jet, the reload animation uses up most of the time otherwise. Bufftats and psychobuff are amazing.

Not sure if its known but I found this on my own. If traveling with companion and you are both carrying max weight. Start asking companion to get the items for you. They will continue to gather items without the overburdened penalty. Very useful when lots of items are available and dont want to make several trips.

typically if im going to be in an all out battle or im making a last stand, I go into my pip boy and carefully selection of different Buffouts, Psycho, Mentats, and Jet and I just go berserk because of it

Overdrive isn't actually one of the base chems, it's a psycho chem. And no mention of mentats?

You forgot to mention that certain armor pieces can be modified to give the player a whopping 50% to their chem times.

I'm playing a Survival play through without Power Armor. So my guy is a druggie. My guy makes so much jet he sells them at Diamond City for caps

To be honest unless I'm facing impossible odds like three deathclaws I just sell them for caps. They are worth a lot of them

Grape mentats are really useful for any character build. I always end up with like 12 or 15 of those in my inventory.

I'd like to point out there is a junkie legendary modifier where the weapon will do more damage for every addition you have. Pair that with orange mentats which are easy to make and give you a large (+5) perception buff and a bonus to hit in vats... it's pretty good.

I really love your videos, man. A I've sent all my friends & acquaintances that play FO 4 your way. Your videos are so informative & well put together. Very easy to understand, even for those who've never played any of the FOs before.

I get high as a kite when the difficult enemies show up, it works so well.

I role play a drug addict in fallout 4, so I get addicted when I start the game and then force my character to live with the addiction they have.

Hey JV2017 Totally just found your channel and subscribed, keep up the good work! Also I just started a new charater, after like 60 hours of gameplay not using drugs. Now i'm doing an agility blitz melee build taking all the chem and alcohol perks has been such a fun and different experience! Your guides on both topics helped a lot.

Buddy, when you talk about primary chems you forgot Mentats, you know, the one that help you intelligence and perception, and the various versions of it that do other AMAZING things, like XP boosts, VATS accuracy, selling prices etc.

+Doberfitz I will play the new survival with the female protagonist. Make her a lawyer (since she is one) with 8-9 charisma, 6 intelligence, 1-2 strength/endurance and higher luck. Am curious how it will go, will probably be a realistic play through although it may be overly punishing and I think she will most likely end up addicted to chems.

for anyone who wats to get all the maximum companion affinity perks I tuink it would be a gold idea to go for companions that dislike chems early in the game, then later you can swap to those that like chems and get perks like chem resistant and chemist since once you max he chem hater's affinity you should be high enough level to get hose perks

im currently using a chem based build and it gets super fun to play once you get the second rank of chem resistant.

I did took the chem perk, and my fav is Psychojet, the most important for me is actually jet combined with whatever chem, even when it doesn't give damage by itself, i manage to do more things in slow motion like take a bunch of people by myself .

I have all the perks but never understood what drug for what reaction, thank you for the excellent tips, well done..

I always go for Chem Resistant because Chems are just too helpful to worry about having to get addicted.

I fancied a new playthrough my last one must be a year ago now and wanted to do a chems build utilising both chem perks, thanks for the refresher, now to make a character

Had us in the first half...

My sniper playthrough used copious amounts of Jet to land hard-to-hit shots. The slow motion allowed me to reliably hit headshots and other crit points I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Got addicted a few times, but it was worth it for deadeye precision. Meanwhile, a good chem for all playthroughs, I believe, is Grape Mentats. Pop one of these when you go to buy stuff, and the prices are made very good compared to without. It also helps to pass Charisma checks you wouldn't be able to otherwise, such as saving Danse in Blind Betrayal.

Great video! I'm definitely considering using them more often on a second playthrough of fallout. I was wondering about alcohol and party boy/girl perk. Are those any good?

I use calmex and jet fuel for my sneak/sniper build. Sneak attack multiplier jumped to 7.2x. There are mods that allow you to craft both chems, Buffout and calmex.

Using combo chems like jetfuel allows you to do things like jump a mile with the jetpack on a power suit. I made a couple of videos. using the drugs can have special side effects in certain situations.

I tend to keep 5 of every basic drug in my inventory for emergencies. The extra go in the stash or I sell them because I don't usually need them (normal difficulty).

You should do a everything you know on armor(clothe) because I barley know what to do.

It's interesting that addiction chance doesn't stack since previous Fallout games have had something called the UMON (Usage Monitor)that increased addiction chance the more of a drug you did. I actually had no idea that F4 removed it so I'm super glad I saw the video. I was using my drugs sparingly but now I guess it's time to go full Keith Richards.

I will certainly think about the chems more in Fallout 4 than I did in Fallout 3. Only time I ever used drugs in Fo3, was to take Buffout so I could carry more lol. Seems like Chems got a little more useful in this game maybe. At the very least, the ability to craft them makes for quick caps.

Grow carrots in Sanctuary hills just so I can pop Orange mentats, don't even care about the -1 CHR so no need to waste perk points avoiding it.

For my melee character I popped chems like no other trying to survive some of the tougher fights. My gun character very rarely uses chems (I'm rolling with Danse) plus the fact the only thing I really use is buffout so i can carry more stuff if I'm off on my own.

I like going at it cold at first. But once I can't gain anymore ranks in x-weapon perk. I like to start using them to ease the difficulty of the fights. Like say boss fights, or post lvl 90 game play :D

Psychobuff and Psychojet are my go-to combat enhancers for tanky builds. Get in the shit, pop em both, w/ a stimpack, then go Matrix-ham like a meth-headed Neo.

I like the effects chems give, and there honestly isn't much drawback. Addiction is fixed for the equivalent of a caps stash box or a couple of pipe pistols. The only reason I don't use them all the time is I'm not in the habit. I get into fights and just forget that I have this at my disposal.

There are a couple chems that I like for special uses, but for the most part they are just a constant source of caps for me. My first Playthrough, I would hoard everything thinking that eventually there would be a perfect use for it, but now I've decided to just sell what I can't use. Same goes for ammo. I have the guns that I love, and all the other ammo gets turned into caps, or basically traded for ammo that I do need. The big take-away for me here, is either use your chems, or sell them. Don't let stuff sit in your bags for a rainy day, because it will be there forever.

I use ultra jet, overdrive, orange mentats, bufftats, nuka cola quantum, and refreshing beverage... the nice thing about refreshing beverage is it is like rad-x, rad away, a stimpack, and addictol all in one little package... I have never been addicted to a single drug in fallout 4. on a side note if you are playing on the highest difficulty, because of the heal over time taking your healing items as soon as you enter combat is the best option.

As a raider player my favorite chem is psycho jet. It slows time while I hack and slash away.

i use chems very rarely in general, i find making jet to be an awesome way to get XP and caps early on though. granted I tend to play a builder water baron (that was my survival play through and it just sort of stuck) so it doesn't really matter how I play, I can fairly easily afford it, peace

I don't really use chems aside from Jet, the Rads, and Med-x. I'm a sniper and I find Jet pretty useful if, for example, there are two raiders standing next to each other. I'll take a jet, pop the first raider's head, then pop the second raider's head. pretty fun.

my Thrill-Kill Assassin build makes liberal use of chems, and it is hilarious. I will slam some Psycho-Buff or Overdrive, and then follow it up with some Ultra Jet and go on a blitz killing spree with Pickman's blade or Kremvh's tooth, or even a Legendary bladed tire iron I picked up. the carnage is unreal XD
