If you had read the tooltip that pops up when you first start hacking your very first terminal, it spells it out clearly what you need to do.

Rejinald Palmer I'm pretty sure there would be even more complaints, if they maid it completely pointless as achallenge, by teaspoonfeding you with step by step, connect the the dots diagrams and illustrations. That one tooltip literally explains the mechanics it in clear, green text. That there are small extra tidbits, is there for you to discover on your own through gameplay, as with most other world elements.

THANK YOU for making this. 2020 and I just picked up Fallout 4. Had no clue what I was doing. Would just reload and click 4 words randomly until I got it. :D thanks!

In this case I think 'SELL' was a likeness of 1 simply because 'E' was NOT the correct letter to be looking at. In the word 'SENT' the 'S' was correct being the first letter in the word, and the 'T' was correct in that it was the fourth letter in the word. Hence 'SENT' having a likeness of 2. So 'SHOT' having the 'S' at the start and 'T' at the end, make it correct. That being said, 'SELL' was a viable option since 'E' COULD have been one of the correct letters. Thanks for the tutorial though! Those duds and replenishes will definitely come in handy!

Just got the game today so I've been looking at a ton of tutorials and tips. This one is probably the most useful I've seen. Too long spent randomly clicking away on a terminal...

This game has been out awhile and I’m finally getting into it and I must say, this was the most descriptive video I’ve seen.

Thank you for actually explaining how this works. Most people think the likeness is regarding to the letters themselves not the position.

Thank you for this. I'm new to the fallout series (just got fallout 4) I have about 24 hours logged in right now and with terminals, I sort of understood after just playing a lot but what I didn't know is that the likeness letters would be the same AS WELL AS in the same position as the target word. Knowing that makes all the difference and I may be able to actually figure these out now without getting lucky or ultimately guessing.

Ohhhhh... I thought that the likeliness (#) was just the amount of letters in the actual password. Hacking is less frustrating now lol.

LOL, I watch this video and I understand it now, despite your best attempts to make it more confusing!

After all this time I had no idea the likeness included the position of the letters. Thought likeness meant that they shared a letter. Never even knew the duds exisited. Explains a lot. SMDH. Ty.

Its good to remember to check back on tried words, further than just the single most recent one. Compare them to each other, observe where there is a likeness count but letters DO NOT line up between all the words. This way, by combining these, you may discover more likeness' letters, and sometimes even the whole word.

That makes these sooo easy!

My friend taught me how to hack terminals he got me into the game when we were in middle school. Took me a while to understand just wanted to see how a youtube video would explain it out of curiosity . Those were the fun days, im almost 23 now

I just started Fallout 4...It is literally the first and only Fallout game that I have everrr tried. Just came across one of these damn terminals for the first time. Now I'm here..

After watching this I became a super hacker. My problem was that when there was some Likeness I matched similar letters, not their location. Matching locations makes hacking even easier. For those of you new to this game I suggest you start by checking the words with as many different letters as possible, then proceed with process of elimination. You got a like and subscribe.

I'm playing fallout 4 for the first time, and i sort of figured out how hacking worked, however, i had no idea that the characters had to be in the same places across words, so that helped, i also didn't know about the glitchy words that help you, so thanks.

he might have said it but remember that if you back out at attempt 3, it resets the whole program when you reenter it so you now have a new code and you now have for more tries that you will again only use 3 of those 4 attempts, until you break the code or randomly crack it. this way you will never be locked out unless you fail on attempt 4.

I up my luck to max. Try the first 3 words and back out and go back in if I don't get it. I don't get locked out and it's gonna unlock the computer within like 3 tries for the most part.

I had the word ALIKE with a likeness of 3 and there was like NO other word matching it, not even when you just look at the letters and not the spot they are in. I'm playing this game on the oculus rift but that shouldn't make a difference...

After the first guesses (SURE/SENT), the only two choices left are SHOT/SELL, because these are the only options that make the following true: SURE matches 1 letter SENT matches 2 letters and at this point we know for sure S is the first letter, and only 1 of the following is true: E is the 2nd letter T is the 4th letter after the 3rd guess (SELL) we know SELL has only 1 match , and E is not in the password. There is only 1 choice left, and it has to be the right answer. it'd make it more interesting if there are other words that start with S and end with T. BTW, I love the fallout series.

I've been getting lucky so far getting them in lees than 3 tries but luck doesnt last forever, Glad I found this easy to understand guide

yeah, i always wondered how to hack terminals in fallout, lockpicking has always been my main skill (in elder scrolls skyrim, i restarted my character and the first chest i found was a master lock, picked it first try (lvl 1 lockpicking). But this video really simplifies how to hack terminals. Thank you!

you did understand it yourself just about 70%. even at the beginning you can read "the number of letters that match the terminals password (BOTH LETTER AND POSITION) will be displayed on screen. "SENT" has "S" at the 1st position and "T" at the 4th position. "SHOT" has the same "S" at 1st position and "T" at 4th position. thats the "POSITION", where the letters are positioned in the word. now you also have here the match of the same letters "S" and "T" in both words. thats why you have 2 hits, because both letters and the position match. now if it would have been the "word".. "SETN" it would match the both letters "S" and "T" in the word searched, which is "SHOT". but the position doesnt match, because in "SETN" the "S" is at 1st position (which does match) but the "T" is at the 3rd position, where its the 4th position in the word searched "SHOT". in this case it would be only 1 hit, because we just have the botch letters, but not the position. thats why "SELL" did have only 1 hit, because it matched only the "S" in "SHOT", "LETTER AND POSITION". have fun everyone with one of the best games ever made.
