+antix originally, skyrim was touted as scheduled to have 3-4 "shivering isles size" expansions originally. It may very well have been planned, but that was shelved after dragonborn.

This does imply that other characters in the Fallout world also have the Mysterious Stranger show up and kill people for them.... But only in VATS, so they need to be using a Pip Boy. Does this mean the Stranger(s) may be somehow connected to Vault Tec? Perhaps a prescient teleporting immortal, or maybe even a rogue holographic A.I. still fighting to support team Vault Tec. Mysterious indeed.

@@frostburn5291 There's no real canon ending, but I think that the Hoover Dam battle and the defeat of the Legion is the most legit and we'll fleshed out storyline. That said, the NCR would continue to spread across NV, force out the Chem gangs and solidify their control of the area. That said, we could always go with the ending where the New Vegas wasteland is just swarming with robo-Nazis... In which case the NCR might need some bigger guns. Time to call in the Brotherhood.

What if he found an artifact like Lorenzo did? Making him immortal and having the ability to show up whenever and wherever he's needed. I mean the idea of psychic powers itself has been somewhat touched upon in the game series so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Nick Valentine was originally a Boston detective, but after his girlfriend was murdered, his CO told him to go to the C.I.T (or institute) for some experimental trauma recovery experiment. but the C.I.T recorded nicks personality on a holodisk while they did it. A bout a hundred years later, they find the holodisk while working on the Gen 3 synth program, and decide to place the personality into one of the 2 prototype synths, After countless experiments, the Other synth, (DiMA) breaks both himself, and nick valentine out, but nick, not realising his situation, and still thinking he's the pre-war detective lashes out at DiMA and is eventually knocked out. DiMA goes to far harbour to found acadia, and nick goes on to start his detective agency.

The Mysterious Stranger might be the incarnation of the previous vault/lone wanderers. Pretty much anyone who has made a huge impact on the Fallout World during their timeline. Be it the original vault 13 vault dweller all the way down to courier six. After they have left their mark on the world, the previous incarnation would track the next potential candidate to take up the mantle as the Mysterious Stranger. That could explain why it's always one hit one kill, due to his/her high S.P.E.C.I.A.L., perks, and as well as experience on enemies' weak spots accumulated through out their years. You can't catch the M.S. due to his/her high sneak points couple with stealthboys. The outfit might be a Pre War CIA infiltration tech, that would be used by field agents, perhaps they have perfected the stealth technology from the Chinese? And are planning to use it against them, but the bombs dropped. To take on the mantle to be the Mysterious Stranger is a blessing and a curse. You pretty much have to find your next replacement right away, and the only way is by selecting worthy candidates, by stalking/helping them. To see the impact that they made.The impact must be monumental to everyone, whether if it was good or bad. The Mysterious Stranger is a guardian angel, that will drop in once in a while to tell you that, " Hey, don't get too complacent. You're good, but I'm better, and you still have a lot to learn."

Well ... if you think about it, the Mysterious Stranger IS kinda terrifying from a in-world perspective. Good on Nick for trying to put him away.

No mention of him being sighted in New Vegas or Caesar's Legion's land. Maybe that means NCR is the canon ending for New Vegas to Bethesda.

DLC= downloadable content. DLE= downloadable expansion. I don't agree with devs lumping downloadable map and game expansions together with downloadable game inventory items/perks. Makes no sense.

kinda get the feeling Nick was created by the institute to track down (and maybe even be a clone of) the mysterious stranger. Hence, why he is so good of a detective and so obsessed with him.

For those who don't know, Nick has a case file on the stranger, he is particularly obsessed with him because of how illusive he is and how he has been spotted in multiple locations throughout the U.S. You can read Nick's case file at his detective agency, the file is in the back under a bed if I'm not mistaken.

the Mysterious Stranger is a synthetic by the institute, multiple of them was made but only one appear at a time. Nick used to be one of them until he lose his skin from a fire and got a reset. That explained everything including Nick's appearance and how the Stranger disappear every time after shooting, institute has teleportation technology. But that is an official perk on vault tech's perk chart... The theory was bought to you by, Harry.

Harry Tsang Nick doesn't have skin though... He's a gen 2 Synth which are those ones with a rubbery sort of "skin" that isn't actually skin. And wears a long coat & hat because it appealed to him and to the style as it was something he thought a detective would wear. If the Mysterious Stranger was a synth he'd have to be a gen 3.

Famous Gamest they are not the same entity. the misterious stranger is the original nick valentine and the synth is nicks memory stansfered into a synth body.

Time travelling, teleporting/stealthed 3rd gen synth, that may or may not have multiple copies. Possibly based off of Nick Valentine.

Maybe he is a hallucination, coming from the stories people have heard of the survivalist but the people dont know about it, onlt rumours of someone or something killing enemies and saving lives from the rocks. And these stories spread across the wasteland and got really changed up to the point where people started dreaming and hallucinating about it, but thinking its true. This theory is dumb and obviously wrong, but i liked it so here it is

@@hosybosy1119 I once read a really well written fallout 3 fanfiction story where they implied the mysterious stranger was the Doctor from Doctor Who that showed up accidentally in the capital wasteland and helped the Lone wanderer take care of three dog's radio signal after the wanderer blew up the monument to flatten a super mutant behemoth. It was quite an unusual take on fallout 3's story that all stemmed from one single change to the narrative. That Amata joined the wanderer when he left the vault.

Stephen Fraser Sure, but the Mysterious Stranger isn't exactly a normal guy. Maybe he was a detective from pre-war times and has now become a supernatural entity. But I don't know his story. You don't know his story. No one knows his story. He is after all called the Mysterious Stranger.

The Mysterious Stranger is none other than... Big Boss. And the entire Fallout universe takes place in his dreams, foreshadowing how he'll bring the world to its knees. Who else could be that legendarily sneaky?

A theory is that he is a teleporting synth with the same mind and body as the human Nick Valentine, the synth version was thrown away with his memory's wiped because he was discarded

Theory: Mysterious Stranger is actually Courier Six. Courier Six would be the only one we know about that has access to a teleporter other then the institute and its possible the Teleporterponder is much more advanced then the Institute's Signal Transmiter. Also the Courier would also be the one in possession of the Mysterious Magnum. It could be while Courier Six was exploring the Big MT (which says that they do through the DLC ending) found not only a teleporter but a time machine and became the Mysterious Stranger. but that is just a small theory.

But you can't explain how the Stranger (and Miss Fortune) appear in the Mojave. Basically, you can see the Stranger and the Courier in the same room. Not to mention the fact that The Stranger is the Lonsome Drifter's father, which Courier 6 most certainly is not.

When you first try to release Nick, I shot and missed the guy in front of Nick's prison room and the Stranger appeared. He said "Huh... that man just killed him. Why? Why would he just come in here and kill people?" I felt bad I killed all those people.

Um he does. Also no, he can't be good or bad because he appears at random times. He'll appear if the protagonist is shooting at civilians, he'll appear if your trying to kill a mob boss or something.

I never actually had a stranger encounter with nick as my companion. I'm suprised about the voice lines I've never heard from him. Good work findeing this.

no thats actually a reliable theory, its obvious the mysterious stranger has something to do with valentine and he always shows up out of nowhere so maybe the way he shows up out of nowhere is because he's a ghost and he's hidden but when you need him he reveals himself.

could be a ghoul as the letter suggests... could be a synth from the institute. .. possibly various different synths for the various games and timelines... the stealth, appearing out of the blue, and vanishing do mirror Insitute swag lmao... or could simply be a silly fun helpful perk which they now decided to added a bit more intrigue into... you know, to wet your curiosity for something you'll never get more then personal speculation for... or the stranger could be like Cabot... immortal age wise... maybe the stranger was a compain of Cabot and went to that ancient list city and became immortal. .. Oh man, I love this so much XD Having Nick comment on the stranger when he appears, and even keeping a dossier on him, just makes the stranger feel even more real, and I love it!

It really surprises me that news can travel so casually about the West Coast and the NCR. You'd imagine that would be an incredibly dangerous trip that not a whole lotta people would make. I would've expected any word of the West Coast to be treated as, like, a rumor that gets mentioned by travelers every couple of years. Or it could be Bethesda screwing with lore and feasibility again, like what they did with Mr. Tenpenny seven years ago.

***** I dunno. I mean, back in F:NV even caravans moving along California and the Midwest had a lot of trouble. It just feels weird that there's possibly a significant influx of travelers. It works when the Brotherhood and Enclave (or powerful individuals) cross those distances because those guys have very ample resources. Small trader groups, though? There's places in that long trip that would tear Legionairies apart. And, even then, what's there to be gained from crossing that huge distance vs just traveling up and down California?

Travels a lot faster by radio, you see the mysterious stranger wasn't exactly who you remember him to be in shady sands, he was a man known as strange man, who didn't talk to you directly but handed you notes to read, he knows everything your going to say, and has a note pre prepared. He is allied with every faction. Including brotherhood of steel, deathclaws, super mutants, ghouls and the player, and the at the time, nation wide radio station for raiders, And after his little note or two of information and a weird conversation, he is gone when the menu closes. I don't remember anything else about em. Other than a luck requirement. The notes had stuff like passwords and keys in them, as well as area specific advice, and information that you can use to convince master to kill himself.

there are few relaystations scattered around the Map of the commonwealth. When you raise their antennas you could pick up new broadcasts (some unlocking quest or locations), who knows where that signal is from. Though most of them are very weak. And radio is not the only method of spreading information. There are also Eyebots broadcasting pre recorded messages like those propaganda bots from the Enclave. And some of them have been active for years travelling incredible distances across the country without getting too damaged. There is even a prewar Eyebot that advertises to apply for a job for a company that no longer exist. Oh yea the Enclave have working Satellite relaystions to communicate between their bases. Radios and Eyebots may not be the Internet information highway. But atleast its not the dark age. The news gets around somehow

I have often thought of him as a synth that may have the ability travel . time, appearing to aid those important to the timeline and then leaving without saying anything to make sure he doesn't mess it up.would be funny if it was nick from the future...

I hate the way Bethesda has completely whitewashed New Vegas - giving absolutely no mention or references to it throughout Fallout 4 despite it still being my favorite game of the series. There was plenty of opportunity to reference some things from New Vegas, Mr House even attended CIT aka The Institute, yet there is no mention what so ever. Its like they're embarrassed that Obsidian actually did a pretty damn good job with the franchise

They did mention it. Just because they don't mention what happens doesn't mean Bethesda doesn't acknowledge NV nuka cola being a rival to sunset sarsaparilla, deacon trying to use House's override codes, that game you can play where you stop the missiles from destroying NV , and plenty of other things. god, i swear NV fanboys like to jump on this idea that Bethesda hates Obsidian when Todd Howard said he really loved New Vegas and would love to do another game with Obsidian if the chance ever occurs

Remember NCR is a place too from Fallout 2 like Capitol Wasteland is Fallout 3 and Commonwealth is Fallout 4. Capitol Wasteland is Washington D.C. Commonwealth is Boston. NCR is California. Fallout New Vegas isn't really considered canon to Bethesda that is why Miss Fortune isn't in Fallout 4 like the Mysterious Stranger.
