Fallkniven A1 Pro CoS: unboxing and first impressions

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A1 pro field test! : • New Fällkniven A1 PRO:...
The regular Fallkniven a1 was my favourite survival knife so I just had to get the pro version!
New and improved Pro series specification
Pro series of F1, S1 and A1 differs from its predecessors in the following important details:
1. The laminated VG10 steel is replaced with a laminate cobalt steel (lam. CoS) which, amongst other things, ensures a durable edge and improved edge retention.
2. The blades are consistently thicker causing an increased torsional rigidity - they will withstand even greater external forces than before.
3. The tapered tang is wider and thicker and thus significantly stronger.
4. The crossguard is made of stainless steel and permanently mounted to the tang.
5. The convex edge has been refined to improve the cutting properties.
6. The zytel sheaths are redesigned meaning they are more durable and are better suited to the Molle attachment system.
7. The knives are supplied with our most valued combination whetstone, the DC4. It offers both a diamond whetstone and a ceramic stone for field sharpening.
8. The knives are packed in shock-resistant, waterproof boxes that can be used for storage of smart phones, GPS, documents, survival gear and much more.
Understandably these knives fall into a higher price category. However, considering the unparalleled quality they are by no means over priced. A professional survival knife should be able to be relied upon in the all-weather and we really mean all weather. It should also be pleasant, safe and comfortable to handle whether it’s fine or rough work, summer heat or winter cold. We have considered everything in the design of this quite superb knife and we, therefore, offer a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship.

    +Big Brown yeah! I am very happy and stoked about the a1 pro. This will be my workhorse for around the camp. I LOVE splitting wood with knives. It is a sort of meditation almost. This a1 pro is like a splitting maul under the knives haha. The Cos steel is the best fallkniven steel for this knife as it takes a very Sharp edge even in this large geometry. Take care mate!

    @UCJjSqd8rQfqXnLLoElsXKDA defense and heavy duty work with compromise on general purpose tasks ideally. Thanks for your Input, I looked those knives up and they look great! Actually want to get the randall Buxton fighter after seeing it, but unfortunately its out if stock, or selling for nearly 1k usd which is well over 1k in Canadian on Ebay, not that rich lol. I just bought the tops operater 7, which looks amazing and from what I seen, performs fairly well, and it wasn't too expensive, and now I have some money left over for a smaller knife for the finer tasks, and maybe a custom sheathe. That's cool that you help hjortberger with the design and that, you seem well informed with knives, I'm 20 so as you said before, I dont really have any wisdom in it at all. So i really appreciate your input and wisdom, thank you.

    Question for you... Is the very tip point of the blade very "pointy"?? From a lot of the reviews that I've seen, to me the tip just does not look like a very sharp pointy tip.

  • @DutchBushcraftKnives

    @DutchBushcraftKnives

    8 жыл бұрын

    mmm, never actually looked at the point specifically. The point is not the sharpest out there but It should be good enough to easily pierce skin or make holes in wood. I have no issues with it anyway.

    Do you think there is still a place for the regular a1, or does this make it obsolete?

  • @DutchBushcraftKnives

    @DutchBushcraftKnives

    8 жыл бұрын

    I still believe there is. The A1 in Vg-10 was my favourite knife for a long time. The laminated Vg-10 has a very good price and is very well balanced. It might not be as good as CoS but costs a lot less and the regular A1 still makes an incredible survival knife.

    Hi, Thank you for this type of reviews,. I'm looking for an opinion about the A1 Pro vs the S1 Pro in a one knife scenario. I have not physically tried any of them yeah, my hands are large size and I'm thinking also of the size and weight of the knife for a only one all around knife, as i can only get one. Thank you in advance for your help!

  • @DutchBushcraftKnives

    @DutchBushcraftKnives

    8 жыл бұрын

    In a one knife scenario I would go for the S1 pro. It reminds me of my aurora knife and the size is very usable in all scenario's. Maybe you can find a store where you can hold the knife. Knife handles are like shoes, even if they fit they might not be comfortable for you while it may be very comfortable for another.

  • @DutchBushcraftKnives

    No sadly not, not in the nearest.. You'll need to go to at least a high quality 5000 stone and use compound up to 12.000 grit after.

However, I don't think it would form a problem in hard use. Let me know what fallkniven has to say about it. Best regards, DBK

They recommended to send it back, to sweden or in this case maybe to knivesandtools, will be faster.So i can get a replacement. Then a other worry: will that knife be OK?. they say it will maybe not a problem for using the knife in the future, but there should not be play at all.they recommended to send it Back.greetings

    Nice box and all but.... I want to buy a knife, not a box. Don't be fooled: the price of the box is included in the huge price of this knife, it is not a free present from fällkniven ;) And about the bevel : the blade is way thicker and the bevel lower? This is actually 2 bad points in terms of cutting performances: if anything, on a thicker blade, the same angle bevel should be much wider because of the additional steel that had to be removed because of the additional thickness .
