Apparently, James Woods had so much fun playing Hades, that he told Disney he'd reprise the role anytime they wanted regardless of the pay. Which I super appreciate, because I don't think anyone else could give us that same energy.

I heard somewhere that everyone else that read for the role did Hades in the way that you might do Darth Vader or Voldemort. Then James Woods came in and voiced Hades like a satanic car salesman. Play feel so deeply in love with that idea that they decided to make the character accordingly. Of course, there is every possibility that they always wanted to make Hades like that anyway.

Meg is one of those really well written female characters that you actually see as strong and independent and not a bitch and or bully. She has her flaws and she’s not perfect and that’s what makes her perfect.

My favorite thing about her is that despite being strong, independant and sarcastic, she's still very vulnerable and has a caring nature. I miss that in most modern "empowered" female protagonists whose personalities are basically just some toxic masculinity with boobs and "I'm not like other girls!"
Phil in the film: “Zeus is your daddy? HAH!” Anyone in actual Greek mythology: “yeah and?”

honestly, the list of heroes who *aren't* kids of Zeus is probably shorter
When Hades says “it’s only halftime” it is the halfway point of the movie.
While this movie is VERY inaccurate with Greek mythology due to being a Disney movie for kids (Hades was not actually a villain and Zeus was NOT actually a heroic figure), it is a hilariously fun musical. I loved Phil's song, Meg's song and even Zero to Hero.

I took a mythology class, and the teacher, who generally dislikes when myths are misinterpreted or majorly changed, he readily admitted that he enjoys this movie. It wasn't accurate, but it tickled his fancy as a mythology buff, and I feel like that says something for this movie.

Myth should reflect the society it's born in. This is a reinterpretation of Heracles in the midst of superstar influence on society. It works on a level of comparison of influence vs true ideal idol.
It's not especially accurate to Greek mythology and it's a little funny that they have Hades' hair change from blue fire to orange when he's mad even though blue fire is hotter, but even with those inconsistencies this movie is still a ton of fun . I absolutely love the decision to play Hades as essentially a sleazy car salesman and Meg has the amount of sass and sarcasm I aspire for.

29:26 Zeus can't make his thunderbolts. In real Greek mythology, Aphestus (sorry if I spelled that wrong) is Zeus's blacksmith and makes the bolts. That's what Hermes was warning Zeus about, he was captured.
This movie is very underrated in my opinion. The colors and art style are amazing and iconic. The music is great and the voice acting is amazing too. I was a kid when this came out and I remember getting stuff form McDonalds with Hercules characters on them. Like plates and toys. Nostalgic movie.
Zero to Hero is a montage over the months and months it took for Hercules to raise up and im betting that Meg has been around to at least push him into conflict as with the Hydra and of course it gives her glee to see Hades finally bested its not sudden love
28:16 I think the thing about August was something to do with Persephone. Basically Persephone was his wife but because of something to do with her mother and hades being In the underworld he only saw her from August till spring I think. It's actually quite sweet as hades was truly in love with her and remained loyal to her in their marriage. He thought she was very beautiful and treated her like a queen. I loved your video by the way and I agree with you. Meg and Hades are so undeniably iconic.

Demeter (goddess of the hearth and harvest) became angry when her daughter, Persephone, went missing, and Zeus was unwilling to intercede. Whether willingly or unwillingly depends on the version, but because she ate 6 pomegranate seeds it was agreed between Persephone, Demeter, Hades, and Zeus that 6 months she'd be with her mother, and the other 6 months she'd be in the underworld. That is how the changes in seasons were explained in ancient Greece.

According to mythology, Hades kidnapped Persephone with the approval of Zeus (who was also her father) because he was in love with her and made her his wife. During that time she spent with him she actually started falling in love with him while her mother, Demeter was causing havoc above - famine and poverty - because her daughter went missing and Hades refused to give her back because he loved her. To show it, he made her a garden from jewels and diamonds where Persephone couldn't help, but eat a third of a pomegranate. That actually proved to be crucial, because once she'd eaten food from the Underworld, she couldn't leave. Demeter couldn't accept this, so a deal was proposed: Persephone ate the third of the pomegranate, so she had to spend the third of the year down in the Underworld with Hades and spend the rest of the year with her mother above. Everyone agreed to this, and while Persephone is in the Underworld, Demeter's mood drops which causes the plants to wither on the land because she's the goddess of harvest and agriculture - which is why the Greeks thought winter was happening (they believed only three seasons existed: summer, autumn and winter), because that was the time Persephone spent with her husband down in the Underworld. When she returned, everything started to bloom and come back to life again. Edit: Looks like I finished my tale a little late and someone managed to precede me XD.

Or the people saying Belle is 16 even though the lead animators of Beauty and the Beast as well as the director think of her as much older than most Disney princesses, possibly 20 or past? Don't believe everything you read on a Facebook post screenshot dude.
I've heard that Hades was James Woods favourite role so he'd take any chance to play him again.
Actually my dear Sophie, there's a way to turning a mortal into an immortal : the person has to drink nectar, the favorite drink of the gods but it happens only for good reasons like love. Also, all the gods have a rôle even they seem to do nothing all day. Fun fact : you recognized the " Venus of Milo " and I recognized another statue. When Meg is near the fountain during her song, we can see a statue of an angel kissing a woman. Well, this is a real statue called " Psyché and Love " exposed at the Louvre museum (except they don’t kiss on the real one). I saw it with my own eyes because I'm french and have family leaving near Paris
"What have you accomplished? Yup thats what i thought. Having a diploma doesn't count; let's not pretend its useful." *someone call LifeAlert I've been attacked*
Hades is the sassiest villain. Love him
That montage of you being a hypocrite at 25:05 made me cackle so hard. Hahahahaha
Three things about this movie, still probably my favorite Disney movie. Meg will always be my first Disney crush. 1. It irks me that when Hades gets mad, his hair turns red when a blue flame is actually hotter than a red flame. 2. I heard that the role of Hades was actually rewritten from a more serious role when James Woods came in for a reading and played him off like a used car salesman. 3. Would Hades have still lost if he hadn't sent the cyclops to finish Hercules?

Some greek mythology fans might be offended by how "inaccurate" this movie is, but to be honest, I don't like how practically ALL the characters are portrayed in those myths (cheaters, rapists, war criminals et cetera), so for me, this movie is only improving on the source material 😂😂😂
Don't worry. Meg and Hades are my faves from this movie to. And Hades is my fave disney villain simply cause I love him and his personality.
Someone falling for Meg My reaction: 😍 Someone falling for Hades My reaction: 😳
Finally someone who also fell in love with Hades.
I saw Hercules only yesterday, and was told that I had seen her only once when I was little. I love everything about this film, especially its characters: Hercules is really adorable in his desire for recognition, Phil is very funny and you can tell he's someone with experience. Meg is just excellent: in addition to breaking the codes of the princess who is looking for love, she has a lot of repartee and it is easy to get attached to her. Meg and Hercules are one of Disney's best couples, they're so cute together. And of course, how not to mention Hades: funny, creepy, and a great cut of flame, Hades is one of my favorite Disney villains. But although I love this movie, I can't say it's perfect either. I find that there are some scriptwriting facilities, like the fight against the titans, or the end of Hades. But despite that, it's still a fun and enjoyable movie to watch.❤

"Plans for August" i believe that's when Hades' wife Persephone lives with him over the winter. As Persephone spends spring time with her mother. He's basically saying he has stuff to do before the wife comes home.
The thing you have to remember about Greek gods is that they are by there very nature, humanity itself in greater form. That definitely includes all of humanity's flaws as well. As a side note, Zeus' thunderbolts were more tool than magic, originally made by the cyclops. He is God of the sky after all, not technically God of lightning (feel free to insert Thor God of hammers joke here)
Meg was my gay awakening. Although I really didn’t know back then. Thought „I wanted to be like her“. Only in the closet you could say that while falling head over heals for her XD

In Greek mythology Meg (or her counterpart, his second wife) was Hercules' gay awakening. Bugger left her for a man. Man left Hercules for a woman.
As a kid I loved the music. As an adult, I think the decision to make use the Muses singing Gospel music to function as a literal Greek chorus was genius
2:44 - Someone clearly didn't pay attention when they talking about different types of clouds in science class... 32:48 - Bruh, even the guy voicing Hades (James Woods) *loved* the character. If you look at his IMDB page, not counting remakes, he's voiced him THIRTEEN *MORE* TIMES in games and animations. (Some of the older games could've had much smaller clips/ones taken from the movie, not sure. But still, he's reprised the character an impressive number of times.)
Meg' song is the best.
Easter eggs - The bunny and gopher (14:50) are from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and the lion skin outfit (22:57) is the villain Scar from The Lion King (1994).

That's not all : there's Marilyn Monroe on the stars during " Zéro to Héros " and another one very interesting : during Meg's song, you can see a statue of an angel and a woman kissing each other. Well, this is the almost prefect copy of a real statue called " Psyché and Love " exposed at the Louvre museum (I said " almost " because one the original, there's no kiss)
Fun fact: when Hades says "Relax, it's only half time!" It was the half point of the movie

To be fair if zeus told him how to be a true hero, it would not be a Genuine act of selfless behavior, meaning hercules would die before reach meg because he viewed the act as a check box instead of a character change.
19:52 well, the song being played is called Zero to Hero for a reason there
Have you heard the theory that Mother Gothel from Tangled is actually Meg in the future? It makes sense. A drop of sunshine fell to earth, (Hercules was the "little sun spot"), There's apparently a belief that when Greek gods die they turn into flowers, and since Hurcules decided to stay mortal, he would likely die before his wife like many men do. Then Meg, now old and grief stricken, tries to sing to the flower to bring back to life. The lyrics literally say "Chang THE FATES' design" "bring back what once was mine". And besides the fact that she looks Greek, has a similar hair, body type, voice, posture and sassiness, she actually uses the term "you big lug". Just like Meg. It would make sense to me, if after realizing that the flower would never again be the man she loved, she eventually, over hundreds of years, gave up hope, became sad and bitter, and reverted back to the way she was before she met Hurcules, determined not to let anyone else into her heart.

22:57 That remind you of anyone? Or something said about that familiar face in another movie? As for Hades, he certainly has a good balance of evil and humor. A villain with personality is always nice. He's my favorite part of this movie.
The Law and Order theme showing up when Nessus appears was perfect!
Hades is very charismatic character
Oh, I'm STILL obsessed with Greek Mythology, ever since Elementary School.
One thing I find funny about Zeus calling Hades "a stiff" (aka. boring) is that in Greek Mythology Hades is actually one of the few characters that doesn't have extramarital affairs, and is generally devoted both to his duty as keeper of the Underworld and his wife Persephone (though according to the myth, he did kidnap her to marry her - but it's Ancient Greece, kidnapping and marriage were practically the same thing.) Meanwhile, in Greek Mythology, Zeus goes around causing all manner of mischief, both for his wife and random mortals.

3:30 The dead of the underworld are only souls, not zombies LOL And I don't think they're silent either, though at least they wouldn't remember their lives because Charon gives souls water from the Lethe, a river that makes all who drink it forget, as he ferries them across the Styx or they drink from the river themselves depending on the story. The three women Hades consults with are like a collage of the oracles, the Graiae (there's like half a dozen interpretations of the spelling and alternative names too), and the Fates. The Graeae were three wise, man eating women that had to share a single eye and tooth between them and were sisters to the Gorgons. The trio of Fates would spin the fibers of someone's life, measure the length for the allotment of their life, and finally cut the thread of life.
