This was always a favorite supernatural thriller of mine growing up. The cast and acting was memorable.

Out of all the movies theyve remade and made sequels to, this is one that deserves a sequel. Great movie

But it's a shame Denzel Washington's character died in the end because it would have been great to have him in it again where it's supposed to be all these years later but I don't want it to be Denzel playing the nephew when he's all grown up . Actually they could have a sequel : think about it ... they could have it so that he actually survived the poison cigarettes that made me messed up his lungs a bit but didn't completely kill him and that he almost died and that's why the demon left his body and went into the cat . Yeah they really could do the sequel where Denzel is now living in 2024 and somehow they were able to prove that he didn't do what he was accused of when that woman lied and more witness against him when the guy was shooting at him first ... it could show other neighbors who were there saying that the woman lied and that they all saw that guy shooting at him first and they could make it look like they thought that it was obvious that John Goodman's character deliberately went out of his way to kill Donald Sutherland's character who went up there to help Denzel . ... well maybe they can make it work I mean that would be if ... well the only way it would work is ... and I'll continue in another comment

Because of the problem with the two cops getting shot the one shooting the other cop and then Denzel using his own gun ... I don't want to have to scroll back and watch that part of the movie if Denzel used Donald Sutherland's gun on John Goodman's character then it works and they could have a sequel ... I think .

@gardensofthegods They could definitely make it without Denzel in a sequel. Make his nephew Michael B Jordan or someone. The story itself was fantastic. They really stuck to who Belial, aka Azazel truly was and could be.

One of the most under rated films I’ve ever seen. Amazing performances from every actor. Absolutely gripping from beginning to end and filled with some of the best story twists. Denzel is one of THE greatest film actors in film history and he is so good in this. A perfect Everyman when needed and a fantastic ‘character’ when called for. I’m always left with the chills after watching this particular movie. Can you tell I appreciate it? 🙂

John Goodman is such a great actor. Forgot him and Denzel were in two movies together. The other one is called FLIGHT!

Tell these young's about REAL classics movies! or everyone is dead and Me and you need to marry and fix the Matrix !

'We are not fighting against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces in the heavenly realms' This movie makes this point very well, imho, although with a lot of artistic licence. But the Bible says that we don't need to fear the evil forces when we are in God's hands. We need to remember that there is an opposing spiritual force to God, that is Satan. Not as powerful as God but can definitely reek havoc in our hearts, heads and lives, if we allow it to. We do need to keep vigilant in real life, to guard our hearts and minds. That is what is important. As it says in the Bible, it matters not what happens to the body but it matters totally, what happens to the soul. Choose good and eschew evil. God bless everyone and yes, another wonderful performance from the great Denzel Washington, who I understand follows Christianity?

Stop scrolling, YES, watch this movie, it's a very good one.

Such an underrated movie. An absolute CLASSIC in my book. My personal top ten. The person who wrote this has vast knowledge of spirits, even though he and the film are sadly twisted and tainted by the Christian understanding of evil spirits/demons, which shares some similarity, but for the most part is extremely different from the Orthodox Jewish understanding, which, despite what many Christians will say, is based on nothing more or less than what the Hebrew Bible says. I actually met a guy in jail one time that had an almost exact experience to John Hobbs. Everywhere he went, a spirit would enter a person, and basically like, literally, run into him. I never doubted him. I told him about fallen. He said he had never seen it. Seem quite credible to me. Just because someone's in jail doesn't mean that they are a liar, though many are. The most interesting concept in the film to me, is that a demon or evil spirit cannot enter a righteous person, or at least not by conventional means. If it's not all together true, I believe it does have at least some true to it. I also believe, based on my own personal experience, that if an evil spirit DOES possess a righteous person, that it will ultimately have to leave, likely because it hates being near righteousness, because it basically reminds it of its own evil. Whereas an average or wicked person will require an exorcism.

No one has the smirk like Donald Sutherland! Unmistakable!

A few years back, I went to watch a movie with friends in a lounge for staff. I hate knowing about the movie ahead of watching it, so I wanted to be surprised. Denzel was casted here and the title Fallen, didn't say anything. OH BOY, DID THIS FILM D E L I V E R!! The Pelican's brief and Deja Vue are two more with Denzel, definitely worth watching. Thank you so much.

Time is on my side, yes it is. Denzel Washington was awesome as usual. Good horror flick.

Back when this came out I thought it was pretty damn clever and I still do.

One of Denzels best that is rarely spoken of probably because of the demon angle, but it is a classic . . . "the time I almost died!" And the soundtrack is perfect . . . "pleased to meet ya!"

Excellent movie. The acting and storyline were interesting and very engaging. Well worth the watch.

Hobbs never calls on a higher power for help. Never asks Saint Michael for aid. Never ask God to act for him.

This movie was shown at our church couple years ago. Our pastor taught us some valuable lessons from this movie.

First off, read this warning. It was slow purposely. I promise you want to watch it again knowing the ending. Only then you discover beautifully written and masterfully acted character arcs ... allows yourself to skip couple of 5-minute periods when you think it's too slow, because I can't wait to see what I skipped Just watched it again. It's scary how right I was even over anticipating. This script was written backwards and more than a few will know what I mean after watching it. Excellent vertically twisting movie

No I don't believe it's written backwards ... it starts with the demon which survived and was trying to get into Denzel's body saying how he almost died but we think it's Denzel talking at the beginning but it's the demon used in the last human voice he had before he went into a cat and only was in Denzel body briefly while he was dying ... but the rest of it is chronologically as it happened ... if it was backwards it wouldn't make sense because how could two dead detectives come back to life ? What does happen is that what happened to the woman's father and the demon is the same thing that happened to Denzel's character and the demon and that's because it was able to go into a smaller non-human critter until it could find a human again

I always like Denzel until I read about him... Now I think he is a true walking Saint... Wicked movie!!!

It is only important to understand if you are a parishioner of Abrahamic belief systems. There are over 3,000 religions known to mankind. Most of them do not believe in the hierarchy of heaven or hell. There's absolutely no substantial evidence to suggest that Satan exists or Jesus, for that matter. Our homosapiens species are animals. In nature, there is no such thing as good or evil. Everything is either positive, neutral, negative, alkaline, or acidic. Negative doesn't mean evil or ill-intent. Yeah, they are NOT early in their careers,here, though, Donald Sutherland was in ''Mash'', the movie,from,like,circa;1969(the year I was born)when he played the super funny character of ''Captain Benjamin Peirce''..aka,''Hawk-eye''..(Alan Alda played him in the t.v. show), & John Goodman was on ''Roseanne'' from circa; 1989 until it ended,ten yrs or something, later..(Idk,.I can't remember)..& James Gandolfini, is in lots of films..(not to mention), The Sopranos.. however, they ALL DO look great,. & are most definitely brilliant actors, absolutely....peace✌& hugs💖 to all, with love from,-Marina Martin- 💋in Surrey, British Columbia,Canada ..cheers🍾🥂...xox

Every one complaining abut this movie. im enjoying it 1:30 into it. and its solid. acting solid the plot is solid. (each to there own tho. its slow so it's not gonna be every ones cup of tea)

The story alone is first class but it takes more than that to be a great film. The actors, director, film stock, editing all of it amazing.

So, when they get into these people who participate in community organized harassment aka Gang Stalking, these demons control these people to mimic words or phrases of what we said in private or mimic our mannerisms. Same thing goes for the noise harassment campaigns and smear campaigns, its demons controlling these people.

​@@kannikarpettersson4471 The convict getting executed was a black magic voodoo priest so when they killed him his spirit needed a host...then his spirit changes between hosts just by the smallest touch. So it's actually the convict taking over the person 1 to another to another. But if the person he's in dies and there's nobody around for his spirit to attach then he finally dies!! Hope that helps

Loved it since I saw it in the cinema in 1998 - Great film and ... well, mustn't ruin the ending now...and of course Embeth Davidtz, never quite getting the fame she deserved/deserves .... but at least she has this and Army of Darkness to guarantee her immortality anyway.

Southerland's character really indicts himself as part of the evil.

Well yes there are evil people out there they attract evil because they will it through their thoughts , words and actions ... another way to attract demons is to have addictions for example drugs and alcohol or even being a sex addict or greedy with love of money and material things .. all of these things are portals to attract demons into your body and into your life . Any of those seven sins for example if you are strong with any of those sins it can attract demons . But yes also addictions .
