Payton, I think it would be interesting when you fish this type of facility to test the water as part of your video. There are many semi cheap instant water testing kits available which could tell you many characteristics of the water which would be a positive or a negative to the fish. Then you could see how the fish survive despite having high levels of Nitrogen, or low levels of Oxygen, things like that.

  • @wildlifefishingshow

Getting results on the chemical composition within the water would be cool but it wouldn't tell you how it affects different fish over time, that's a whole study in itself (anything less is just guesswork). I might do it eventually as a special video.

@@wildlifefishingshow I had several classes at UF on Wastewater Treatment Plants, and the methods they use to eat the waste is typically a anorobic process. Because of this and because there is no movement of the water, you would conclude the water has very low disolved oxygen. Now algae can produce oxygen during the day, but it can also consume it during the night. Have the fish which have surved in this mess evolved to allow them to cope with these terrible conditions? Or is the water much better than we realize?

@@johnnevin7759 you're asking questions that require organized studies to answer. You aren't going to find or produce reliable info on this topic in a KZread comment section. You can't conclude much of anything if you skip a legitimate, on site study. You're just assuming there's no flow based on chopped up GoPro footage of mere portions of the plant. You can't carry out scientific procedures like this.

@@wildlifefishingshow I am currently in the process of starting a water study at my local creek that involves nitrogen, phosphorus, and dissolved oxygen meters. Observations lead me to believe certain locations in my study area experience excess nutrients and lower levels of oxygen. Catfish and Turtles seem to be the only organisms patrolling locations with a lot of algae or debris buildup. As for the location you are in, there is definitely excess nutrient levels. You can deduce that from observation. However, you would have to see what the oxygen levels are. My guess is that there is always some sort of flow, so there’s going to be oxygen. John may not be able to find data or information regarding the specific example in your video, but there are others who are interested in the same thing! Learning how runoff/human activities affect waterways and the aquatic wildlife they hold is my goal.

A big bluegill is called a tittie bream because you hold them to your chest while getting the hook out of their mouth. The size he caught are good to eat. To me bluegill and shellcrackers are the best eating freshwater fish.
