Some dogs can sense when their owners are dead. I know a friend whose mother was dying from cancer. The family was there at her bedside at home when she died. When that happened the family dog came in and sat at the foot of the bed and unusually started barking then stopped and then left the room.

You're not going to fool Mocha. She is much too smart.

I get that you were just making a joke with Mocha, but this confuses dogs and especially if their owners have health problems, it could become dangerous, as they might think you are joking when there is a real medical emergency. My 2 poms, Sasha and Rukia, have physically saved my life 5 times. If I wake up and one of them lies on top of my chest or scratches me, then I know to first check my sugar and everything else - they are always 100% spot on! My poms were not trained to do any of this, but realised that they had/wanted to take care of me. They also saved my mom and helped her and told us when her cancer returned. If I played games like this with them - they might get confused and think I am kidding around, when it could be a real medical emergency!

Dogs are very caring, loving and loyal animals. Mind you, cats can also be very loving and caring! Here are some of the most loyal and loving breeds (in my opinion): Akitas (Japanese and American), golden retrievers, Labradors, German shepherds, pit bulls (surprisingly, for some), Staffies (again, surprisingly for some. Most/all of the Staffies I’ve ever met have been really friendly!), Belgian Malinois’s (yep, there’s a reason they use them for the military), Skye terriers (had to nominate these, because of Greyfriar’s Bobby. Greyfriar’s Bobby was like Scotland’s equivalent of Hachiko. Bobby was a Skye Terrier, well over a hundred years ago, in Scotland, in/near Edinburgh. Some sources say he was a police dog (any dog of any breed that had what it takes could be used back then). Some say the man (Auld Jock, I think his name might have been) was a shepherd, some say he was a policeman (or copper!). Anyhow, Auld Jock got pneumonia (I think) and died. He was buried in Greyfriar’s Graveyard. Bobby just went into the graveyard and would sit by his man’s grave every day, or at least, lie on/by it every night, for the rest of his life. The people came to love and care for Bobby and even got him a collar to save him from being killed as a stray), beagles, wolfdogs, border collies, dachshunds, mastiffs, poodles, greyhounds, rough collies (like Lassie), greyhounds and lurchers and Jack Russell’s.
