    Air sealing is such a benefit. People need to understand the convectional sealing superiority of closed cell foam. Well done Mike!

    Great comment on outside airsealing...you need both. Even Risinger noted being disappointed in air infiltration if only relying on spray foam....the same as being disappointed if only relying on exterior systems. Need comprehensive and supportive actions. Great video!

    Great information backed up by studies. However I think your point stated that proper thoughtful and complete installation of all the components of the system is of the utmost importance. No one product can do it all in a wood structure IMHO. On a side note/question? Do you have an opinion on properly installed radiant barrier? Permiable vs non permiable ? Taped n sealed w the required 25mm air spaced? Exterior or interior and or both? Blessings Sir and happy holidays Crawford out 🙏 🔥⚒️🧙🏼‍♂️

    Yes you are Absolutely Right!!! Ever since the Price of Foam Insulation has dramatically increased, it Seems like Notable Online Contractors have Retaliated and Started to Proclaim Fibrous Insulation as As Good or Better than Foam Insulation. Obviously the Closed Foam is better for the 1st Line of Defense against Air Infiltration on the Interior. But contractors are upset that foam insulation is so expensive... In my humble opinion.

    AeroBarrier will spray some stuff in the air and then press that stuff into all the cracks. No need for caulking at the seams then as I see it. For more, see _Matt Risinger: The one product I'd recommend for EVERY House!_

    I have an AeroBarrier division at my company. It's great to tighten up the interior envelope when using fiberglass as a primary insulation type (🤮), but it has limitations. To get super tight seals, a lot of the work has to be done during construction. However, when we use it as an exterior envelope seal AFTER a full spray foam job (floor, walls, unvented roof), it works AMAZING. It is much less time consuming than caulking and it's a far better product than caulk for long term. It guarantees that nothing is missed and give a final ACH print out when it's done.

    Another great video. My sprayfoam installer has installed open cell spray foam in my garage ceiling. Above are bedrooms. Is a vapor barrier required to cover the open cell spray foam on the ceiling of the garage by code?

  • @SprayJones

    @SprayJones

    7 ай бұрын

    How would I know since I have no clue where you are and what code is for your area? On a general physical note spraying to 3/4" OSB or plywood, the wood has enough vapor perm rating to be a vapor barrier. So the open cell would be fine in that situation.

    What was the blue sealant shown on the video for sealing the stud to stud gaps? We've used acoustic sealant but it's a tube or sleeve and trowel. Haven't seen the spray seal around here. Would it be a perfect situation to have a double stud wall and be able to spray the exterior layer of that wall entirely right down onto the floor (With Acoustic under/above the plates)? We're doing a rough design right now and considering the double stud walls, (2x6 exterior and 2x4 interior) and it feels like the best practice would be to air seal the whole interior side of the exterior wall, right over the studs and floor plates. Interior wall would be responsible for hanging drywall and running electrical/plumbing etc so no loss on the exterior wall and no need for access later.

    the problem is how expensive it is... i just got spray foam done, 4" closed cell... was more expensive than ALL of the lumber for the entire building. and i did double stud with 2x6, a full load floor for the attic too. didnt skimp on the wood... the spray foam took basically ONE guy 3 days... took me all summer to frame it. and these guys quoted HALF of what every other sprayer was quoting. hopefully, worth the investment... i could build a whole extra house with batts for the price of it... excluding bureaucracy on the up side, they sprayed more like 5" and someplaces 6" thick.

    One way to save is to do flash and batt, or 2" closed cell and the rest open cell.

  • @SprayJones

    @SprayJones

    7 ай бұрын

    The spray foam is the building. There is no comparison of a batt to SPF in how they work and what the end result will be 5-8 years from now. The "pains" you are expressing are only because your mindset is catching up to what you have bought. I live on a hill and the wind blows 3/4 of the time, batting is never an option SPF is the only way to do it, so one has to suck it up and do it.

Is any special prep required to get proper adhesion to the metal? Hes taliking about putting in seven inches to envelop the the purlins that support the roof sheeting so we do tget condensation. Does that make sense? Any issues with application while its cold outside (20 degrees F)?

    Make a rediculously tight structure and then install a HRV which consumes purchased energy. Yup, that makes sense. If you don't have a forced air heating system, you then must install a complete duct system to distribute the conditioned air.

    Yeah it's so ridiculous. I also hate how easy it is to regulate refrigerators and freezers. They should breathe raw outside air and not have a mechanical ventilation system to make them work better. It's such a waste of purchased energy just to keep the climate inside at a certain temperature.
