Dude, you should travel & train companies all over Canada & the USA. This knowledge is what will change the laws & regs!!!!! We all appreciate the info immensely,,,, however Install companies should know this & they don't. Once again, great video man

If home owners are shown the facts they can demand 2lb. Closed cell foam for their build. Regardless of what the contractor would rather do. Anyone with a marginal functioning brain watching this video would call his local spray foamer for a new build or a remodeled room

The biggest problem is moisture. Period. I’ll take spray foam over fiberglass and poly vapour any day of the week. One tiny crack or pinhole in vapour barrier and your done.

Thanks for all your videos, very useful info. Do you have any information on closed cell SPF longevity? Any potential or unique degredation over time? I've seen people make negative claims but have yet to find concrete info to the contrary.

Hey does anyone know about the .75lbs open cell foam. Any person spraying it or see how it performs.

I used to spray it in the beginning of our business. It provides no vapor barrier and no strength to the structure. It makes much more sense to spray 2lb. Closed cell foam because of all the many advantages explained here. This is one of Spray Jones best videos.

The. 7lb. Foam is good between floors for sound deadening and if you wanted your cement blocks drilled and filled. For example a basement ceiling 4" of open cell works great. We just don't like foam that you can easily poke your finger through. Closed cell foam works everywhere for just about any application

Hello there Mr. Mike, I have a short question for you..... I sent an email to your office with some questions and pictures, I was wondering if you received it? You answer or react to questions on your channel quite regularly (the good / sane ones), so I figured asking you here if you received my email, you might respond. So, by any chance did you get an email asking about spray foam in Southern California, in a single story master bedroom ? Thanks....

so this is why Risinger likes to add outside insulation to walls to try to prevent the warm push causing mildew accumulation on the inside of the outside barrier. Did you see Risinger after years of pushing for elimination of vented attics to unvented only a few weeks ago added the need for essentially a hole in the roof to bleed pressure or something, like wtf, think of all the homes already built prior to that knowledge that will have issues with exactly this issue of mildew accumulation on the inside of the outside barrier. Does spray foam still need foam on the exterior of the outside barrier to also prevent this moisture buildup is what I wonder? Should be super easy to test, metal pan, tape moisture prope to inside of it, spray foam the inside over the prope, and create a simulated box with controlled air and pressure to test with a changing exterior temperature.

Risinger has been using a vapor defusing port for years. Around 20 years ago dozens of Sip panel homes were built in Alaska and they had condensation issues at the ridge. Joe lStiebrick, who Matt gets his building science knowledge from, was in charge of finding what caused it. He wrote a full paper on his website.

So would you say just is a good combo with sprayfoaming, since you dislike flash and bat? How about a combo with PIR?

  • @spiderfoaminsulation9763

    @spiderfoaminsulation9763

Flash and batt is triple the labor and risks mold/running water in the wall as inside heat goes through the drywall and hits the smooth foamed wall. That spray foamed wall if less than 2" thick cannot be trusted for warmth. Often flash and batt is intended to be 1" thick. So some areas may be thinner or thicker. The thinner areas may be cold. If so water is running on cold days. Not at all worth it. When the plan could be 2" minimum. In Wisconsin we spray 3" in the walls....2" if there is rigid board outside over the OSB. When it's your own home why go cheap? It will pay for itself in 4-5 years with lower utilities

I’m not willing to accept that near-zero air leakage is a good thing. We saw this in the 80’s: a flurry of caulking, vapor barriers, etc., all in a mania to make homes “air tight.” The result was countless “sick houses,” with stale air, black mold, and high radon levels. Oops. Maybe ventilation has some value. Maybe it’s better to assume moisture is going to enter, so we need to provide a way for moisture to exit as well. The standard you reference looks tailor-made to advantage foam insulation. I’d like to know the history behind that standard. As to the moisture issue: Keep in mind that while foam can make something essentially air-tight (thus trapping moisture), it has the advantage of using moisture in its chemical reaction. That is, it will remove any moisture present as it cures - to the point that you actually need to wet cavities is arid environments for a proper reaction. Once cured, though, that cavity better remain sealed, or it will trap an moisture that leaks in - leading to all manner of problems.

You have no idea what you are talking about. This is twin component spray foam. There is no need for moisture to cure the SPF. As far as you "too tight" comments.. learn about envelopes and HVAC your comment shows a large ignorance of what is happening and how to deal with it.

Of course ventilation has value, but it should be controlled via a mechanical system, not just leaking passively through your walls

These videos never say that HVAC and make up air isn't important. Exhausting kitchen and bath humid air is important. But to think your whole house should leak heat and air to remain "healthy" is ridiculous. HRV units are great spray foamed houses. The thing to remember is that moisture is IN THE AIR...and when old homes walls are opened up guess what you see??? Black mold and destroyed fiberglass from mice....mouse feces etc. How is that healthy???? Many HVAC units change the air to get rid of internally created humidity...or an HRV (heat recovery ventilator). The spray foamed house is much warmer, efficient and healthier than a glass house.

For you to say foam "has the advantage of using moisture in its chemical reaction....well that's just not true or factual at all. Foam cures quickly. Dry to the touch in 10 seconds after it hits the wall. Moisture is never needed or wanted in spray foam. Watch these videos....all of them ...and get an education on 2lb. Foam.

Maybe he is sharing some truth you never believed before and you are having an internal fight because you know it's true. Watch and learn! You may have a hard time with someone who is so passionate and so detailed about construction/insulation truths. Watch and learn. Mike is the Godfather of spray foam. His detail, facts, charts and video examples are 2nd to none. Ur comment is on par with Homer Simpson

What matters is the truth. You are watching a video jammed with facts and then trying to discredit it with zero reasons or facts to support your opinion. Once you have closed cell foam in your house you will never go back to fiberglass as it's a very poor performer. Anyone who cares about his fellow man....and builds houses will insist on 2lb. Foam. Get educated on it.
