Fake 3D House | After Effects Tutorial
Фильм және анимация
Watch vertically on device 👋In this super-quick After Effects tutorial, I'll cover a really fascinating and fun 2D animation concept: Fake 3D! I've collected a few tips and tricks, making it easy peacy lemon squeezy. Imitating a 3D perspective is a great way to add another layer to your 2D animations. Try it out and let me know how it goes. Focus on what the tutorial is about ✘ Focus on how the tutorial is designed ✔ really caught my attention ! so aesthetic very well explained Thanks!
Fore people following tutorial - second step: "When making shapes, hold down alt/option to be able to edit them later." Short story to skip this step: When shape tool is active (keyboard shortcut Q) on top bar tick a check box "Bezier Path" and you don't need to worry about this step. Long Story: Idea is when you use a Shape Tool to draw Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Polygon, Star, or Ellipse tool it draws parametric path meaning you can't edit individual points by default. Video author suggests you to hold ALT when using tool to convert parametric path to editable Bezier path automatically as shape is created. Alternatively if you didn't hold ALT and you already created your shape you can still convert it to a Bezier Paths with a Convert To Bezier Path command from the context menu inside that shape.

Thank u so much, @Anders Waltz ! Love your work and tutorials! I have a doubt, but it has nothing to do with the motion part, it's more related to the design itself. How do you make the grain/noise effect on the roof, for example? I'm not able to apply effects to solo components in the shape layer, I can only apply it to the entire shape layer
@AndersWaltz

Hey Breno! Thank you so much 🙏 That's a really good question. I've got a PNG image of some texture (Google and find one you like). When imported into AE, I add it on top of the house, give it a blending mode (maybe multiply or overlay) and add a mask to it. The way you do this is hard to explain - but easy to do. Try googling 'trk matte' or masks in after effects and you'll find it easily. Let me know how it goes!

Where I love how easy this looks when you watch it, when you're in After Effects trying to follow, it's not as detailed as I'd like it to be. Certain actions aren't performing as I would expect. I'll keep studying it but not sure why I can't match what you're doing in this video. I'm interested in seeing more from you though!

Love this tutorial! Could you possible please share some brief steps about how you animated the hills? Did you use the camera tool?
@AndersWaltz
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Larissa! Thank you so much. So what I did was... Imagine all these hills are on a plate that spins. The hills that are in the front and back need to more more than the ones that are in the middle of the 'plate'. So when you create your loop, set the positions of the hills in the front and back to first go far to the right, then far to the left. The hills in the middle should go a bit less. And finally the ones inbetween should be - well - inbetween. Am I making sense? If not, try analyzing the animation i did and observe the hills and how they move more or less to the sides the further they are from the middle of the 'plate'.

Just to answer your last question: no camera tool is used ☺️
Awesome and visually astonishing tutorial! :) I have one question regarding the post-processing in your piece. I guess the rough edges were achieved with a turbulent displace effect with a high "amoun"t and low "size" value. But how did you achieve this washes out effect on the left edge of the picture on the upper green hill?
@AndersWaltz
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kai! You're totally right about the Turbulent Displace. I also added Posterize Time and set it to 12 frames. Sometimes I do 18. I then added textures to all the hills, it's a simple, rough brush stroke. The further away the hill is, the more Gaussian Blur it got. The things in the middle (house, two small bumps etc.) Does that answer your question?
Dude your stuff is incredible... Could you do a small tutorial on how to morph things? I am looking but can't find anything that simplifies it down! Keep up the awesome work.
@AndersWaltz

Hey Luke! Thanks I appreciate that. A morph-tutorial that sounds interesting. Can you give a specific example of what you'd want to morph?

Love your tutorials, thank you! Although I cannot seem to get past the first step. Shapes corners are not on top of each others, the circle shape for the window has a different anchor point than the rest which makes step 6 impossible unfortunately.

Try using the pen-tool. Whenever you create shapes - ALWAYS - hold down SHIFT to get the option of changing the anchor points later :)

Awesome, thanks! But How did you create the animation of the drawing process?
@AndersWaltz

I love that you're asking for a tutorial on how I made the tutorial 😂 I animated it manually, adding a png of a cursor and drawing it all in After Effects. So yeah. Manually!
thank you for the tutorial! But i have a question, what is ctrl/command t? Nothing comes out when I press it
Can you do a tutorial on texturing? Thanks

Thx! How to add texture in separate elements?
@AndersWaltz
3 жыл бұрын
I'm adding the texture on top, then duplicating the shape on top of the texture and using that as a mask (trk matte).
how to make that grainy effect ??
I have a question, when i tried to put my paths in the keyframes I just have 2 paths the rest of my figures doesnt apper as paths or dont have paths at all? What do I do ? :(
@AndersWaltz
Жыл бұрын
I think you might have made the shapes for the house (for example the squares) without holding option (Mac) or Alt (Windows). Make sure to hold that down when creating a shape. That way, you get to change the paths. If you don't hold down option / alt, the paths won't show up! :)
Hey Anders great tutorial! Please help. How did you get your house drawing with the pen so precise and aligned in AE!? PS Also spent the last hour or so trying to get CTRL T to work as for some reason AE won't allow me select individual vertex points like you did. I can't scale the house in one direction. :)

Hey Alex! Thank you very much. Everything has been designed in Illustrator. I later animated this whole tutorial - even the mouse - in after effects. So the things you see are all shapes and layers, not screen recordings ☺️

could you tell from which software you got texture in it?
@AndersWaltz
3 жыл бұрын
Most definitely! It's a simple PNG bought on some stock-website or found as a freebie on google. I'd search for grain texture, brush texture or gritty texture. Try it out! I added it directly in After Effects and masked out the texture + parented it to only be visible on each hill while following the movement.
why i cant click ctrl + t? and it become the text
@AndersWaltz

I believe ctrl+t is a photoshop command. What do you want to achieve with this command?
how to make like this noise brush?
@AndersWaltz

Download a PNG from Google with the texture you want, then play around with blending modes like Multiply, Color Burn or Overlay. Finally, mask it out in the shape you want and parent it to the shape if it moves. Good luck!
Hi, Illustrator - Take Gradiant or grain effect to arter effect and apply "create shape from vector layer" and the effect disappears or breaks, may I know how to fix this? The effect disappears or breaks even if you import it after extending it from Illust.. So I applied the grain effect in After Effect, but it gives me a "Fake 3D" effect and moves, so the texture is not fixed to the "Fake 3D House" and plays separately.. How can we solve this?
@AndersWaltz
10 ай бұрын
I see! I usually draw the shapes I need in Adobe Illustrator, and then import that in After Effects. Textures can then be imported seperately into Adobe After Effects. Maybe you could search for some of Ben Mariott's texture tutorials to figure this part out :) Good luck!
