Part 28: • Faizon Love on Calling...
Part 1: • Faizon Love on Being i...
--------
in this clip, Faizon addresses the comparisons between Michael Jackson vs. Chris Brown. While DJ Vlad vouches for Chris Brown's vocal prowess, Faizon states that Michael Jackson is "Unf*ckwitable," before listing off the reasons why. Later in the discussion, DJ Vlad refers Faizon to a previous interview with Ron Newt, where he tells the story about Michael Jackson beating up his pet monkey, Bubbles, after he bit his son. Faizon ends the debate by talking about MJ's upbringing with his brothers and his songwriting ability.

Michael Jackson was an icon way before he even got old. He was a true living legend. He may be the most popular entertainer of my lifetime bar none. He's probably one of the most popular people in recent history for sure. His glove alone was more popular than most entertainers.

What people fail to realize is it’s not just the dancing and the vocals but also the song writing. The ability to pick hits. Micheal Jackson has albums where every song could be a video. Transcendent videos like Micheal is just on another level. I was DJing at a company party and this man came up to me with is 2yr old son and his son keep asking me to play Thriller. I tend to believe that no one will ever reach the level of MJ let alone surpass him. With that said, people no doubt said the same thing about Elvis and The Beatles. With Michael, it’s not only the talent, his voice, his moves, his MJ swag, the lore, the empathy you feel towards him, the connection to the music, and one thing that isn’t up to the artist or within their ability to dictate. It’s also the time. Michael Jackson hit at the absolute perfect moment post disco and he was so ahead of his time while still reaching the present it was extraordinary! No way that could be duplicated. Are Kobe and Lebron some of the best to ever do it? Absolutely. But they’re not Jordan “MJ”. If there was no Jordan they would be the best ever, but that perfect timing wasn’t there. When technology was just starting to progress and the old antiquated mode of producing and selling music was going forward and the public had a means to own it easier. Accessibility was huge. It just can’t be replicated. There’s still huge artists out there. But the internet takes that feeing away of going to the store after waiting sometimes years for a new album. Not too many hone their craft and take the time and effort to put out quality products. We are in an instant-gratification age. NFL used to draft a QB and then have them sit 2-3 years behind a vet and learn everything so the big investment would have the best chance of succeeding. In present day they’re instantly starting and it’s sink or swim. This type of thinking is much more prevalent, things are much more fast paced, and in turn people by and large just don’t hear music like they used to. Like Wesley Snipes said on White Men Can’t Jump, “You’re LISTENING to Jimi, but you’re not HEARING JIMI!”.

The names you mentioned didn't get passed in their respective field. Michael Jackson's field is being the greatest entertainer of all time and King of Pop. Which can't be topped because the difficulty he had obtaining that status at that time, especially as a black artist. It was easy for Elvis and the Beatles to succeed. It was difficult for little Richard, James Brown, and Michael Jackson.
I'm not even a fan of Michael Jackson and i think saying Chris Brown is as talented and could reach the heights of Michael's fame is an insult.

If MJ started his career today he wouldn’t have become the superstar icon he became, of course he would be famous and amazing and talented, but not literally worldwide every single continent famous. “He is unfuckwitable.” - Faizon Now, *that,* right there is one slick but simple way of establishing the magnitude of Mike’s genius, power, reach, and nuances, not to mention the list keeps going and going, ultimately, that I can fuck with, lol. CB is one *hell of a talented* man and a genius in his own right; Personally, it’s unfortunate and downright baffling to see as many people as there are, in all actuality, who underestimate, don't appreciate, and attempt to trash CB and everything that CB has done and the insane talents that he exudes. Now, I'm not talking about Akon whatsoever; However, whenever I come across people who try to “argue” and claim that Michael “was not *that* special,” “was not *that* great,” “only had a few dance steps that he did,” “wasn't a vocalist,” or any other short-sighted, ill-informed, ignorant, nonsensible, and objectively false nonsense that I have seen over the years, all those people demonstrate is that they don't have even a surface-level understanding of just exactly how unfathomably talented and exceptional Mike was and continues to be through his impeccable work. As a former dancer, a singer *[not as great as once was due to personal decisions/mistakes],* and overall creative myself who just happened to get blessed with innate talent in many areas of the arts, all I can say that there are many artists/musicians, dancers, etc., etc., throughout history who are geniuses in their own right, as I described with CB, but Michael was simply something and someone so special that I don't think anyone else will ever hold a candle to how genuinely incredible Mike was and will continue to be, much less a cheap-ass “crack lighter,” lol.
