The wonderpus looks like the mimic octopus but there's huge difference between the two First off the wonderpus has longer eyestalks and have yellow and brown stripes while the mimic octopus has black and white stripes and shorter eyestalks but still an amazing animal
It’s hard to believe this octopus wasn’t described until the 21st century. Since it only lives above 66 feet and it’s such a remarkable pattern I would have guessed people would’ve known about it for a long long time

A lot of the reason is back in the day most people were more worried about food and surviving then documenting the ocean… you forget a lot of people now live care free live styles compared to back then… also you need to remember diving tech wasn’t the best back then either.
