And for something slightly brutal, they are great bait for fishing. They're easy to collect and with a fishing hook right through the thickest part of the body...

They immediately burrow when disturbed is true. I've observed these crabs on North Queensland beaches. We'd jump up and down on the sand and they'd burrow en masse. I like this animal. I have it tattooed on my body.

There is no decline in the invasive populations in Italy and Corsica unfortunately. There, the crabs are an environmental catastrophe and are eating everything. The seas there have become like deserts.
