Factorio - Ultimate Trainsaw (1,400 Locomotive Megabase Train Defense)

Ойындар

A lot of people are asking how it gets refueled. I never built the refueling and repairing system because I lost interest, but I designed one. Basically there would be another train identical to this one, and every 5 minutes they would switch places. The one not defending would pull into a giant rail structure somewhere inside the base to get repaired and refueled. A circuit clock would manipulate signals every 5 minutes to get them to reroute and switch places. There would be hardly any gap between the trains as they're switching, as well, so no weakness in the defense.

    @@JoshStPierre I've seen some that use 2 parallel trains to do the job, that way one can be repair and refueled while the other is defending, and then during the time when they are switching between defending and repairing/refueling you use lasers or some other defense mechanism to keep the biters at bay. the trickiest part is making the timing circuit to control the train switching behavior

  • @JoshStPierre

    2 жыл бұрын

    You're right that its inefficient, but this can actually work without mods, completely vanilla! The one in this video is just for fun, and does not get repaired or refueled, but yesterday I took 10 minutes to plan out how to do it 100% fully automated and legit, and I'm going to start working on it soon. It involves 2 trains that take turns so the other can repair and refuel, and the switch is timed by a very precise circuit clock that enables and disables the refuel station at just the right time so that they switch but the new working train doesn't try to get refueled again too soon. It can work for infinity this way. It will be the very first time a full base trainsaw will have been 100% fully automated and legit in this game.

  • @JoshStPierre

    @JoshStPierre

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm going to let you in on a little secret, the reason I didn't call this a trainsaw in the title, and I didn't call my artillery chainsaw a trainsaw in the title, is because then there will be way more comments just saying "trainsaw", and nothing else. There's like 40 comments on here like that. And comments help push the video into the algorithm to get shown to more people, so by not calling it a trainsaw, more people get to see it :)

    This may be the most effective way to stop bitters. I can imagine how expensive i'd be just to fuel it though

  • @JoshStPierre

    @JoshStPierre

    2 жыл бұрын

    It’s actually not that expensive! It uses 1 nuclear fuel every 6 seconds or so. To put that into perspective, this megabase already uses 1 nuclear fuel every 5 seconds or so, for the trains, and I only need one centrifuge to get this all done.

  • @KingMeruem
    @KingMeruem2 жыл бұрын

    Really nice done and awesome idea. Only weakpoint: If the base is under constant attack, the trains have to re-fule one day, and if they stop, even shortly, its their End I think. But on the other hand they speed up pretty fast... hmmmmmmmmm

  • @JoshStPierre

    @JoshStPierre

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! I do have a solution for the repair and refueling, but I haven't done it yet because I've been doing other things. It will work like this: There will be 2 trains, both same size, taking up the whole track, and they take turns defending while the other one is getting repaired and refueled inside the base. They will switch every 5 minutes when a circuit clock disables/enables the refuel station, and there will be signals spammed everywhere so that they can stay at full speed while switching :)

    I've put a many hour into this game. I have a few friends who play too. We have a map we have been working on for close to a half of a year now. A train system defense. The trick is the refueling aspect of this. We don't have a seamless train system like this one. As this one looks about impossible to refuel and work as a viable permanent defense. A beautiful artistic video that makes me proud to see such dedication in such a wonderful game like Factorio. Ours is no where as chainsaw like, but works with 15 different rail systems all working in sub harmony. The refueling process can not work on just one track like this. It has to be done with no less than 15 tracks leading around your base. The bigger the base, the more tracks needed to fill in those gaps you will always get. Turrets and other defensive measures are always built up around soft points or weak spots in the train system. To the point you can funnel them into a rank and file. Then it becomes more of a tower defense stagey when dealing with biters. Some Biters won't cross the tracks at certain times and walk/run to find a better opening. One we leave open for them to find and bring em all in!

  • @JoshStPierre

    @JoshStPierre

    Actually, this is a viable defense. I'm in college so I'm busy right now, but when I have time I will build the repair and refuel system. It's actually very simple. Basically, there will be 2 trains, and they will take turns defending while the other pulls into the base to get repaired and refueled. It will work, 100% legit and vanilla. No turrets needed, just one huge track, and 2 trains, each the size of the whole track. I just don't have time to do it right now.
