TBH, I am really happy with how this is turning out. We used for example to have 10 units playing the role of screens and nothing that could kill 10 chosen. Now, with the new reach rules and with the possibility to give mortals on 6s, I can pepper them with some shots and then send in 10 slickblade seekers.
Giving an opponent a 12 inch counter charge in exchange for run and charge on two units and average 1.2 mortals? Mild combat buff? Thats absolute garbage :((

That was my initial take. I suppose at certain points it won't matter, but generally being able to guarantee a 12" charge is preeettttttyyyyy good. EDIT: whoops thought you could use them for casting rolls too.

You can also redeploy auto 6", take some BMs and remove front models to give the slaanesh player something like a 10" charge.

Kairos is like a +2.5 to cast wizard with his +1 aura and Mastery of Magic. The Lord of Change will also likely retain Mastery of Magic though I would of course massively prefer if they could make the Lord of Change into a Level 3 Wizard but I suppose they think its stick is quality over quantity of spells.
I think someone else said this. If your faction trait was, "take d3 mortals and then get an auto 6, or 2d3 for an auto 12" that would be pretty sick! Any opponent who plays against you has extra faction traits.
Well, at least the spearhead is good - on a serious note, it’s an odd rule and it almost feels like this is more of a push to go full range to cut out the danger of 12” charges. I’m more sad we lost the thematic temptation mechanic

Imo it was the most fun rule in whole age of sigmar, thematic, fun, cool and also not overpowerd either they could easily kept it the same way amd it would still be balanced imo and if you cut down the damage a bit or the odds fine but the rule itself was super fun and thematic which is sad
BTW, crit mortals is better against anything with a save of 4+ or better. It's a wash on 5+, it's worst against 6+ or /-. We finally have something to deal with Slaves to Darkness!!

Been waiting for this... ... and honestly I feel like this didn't clarify any of the questions I actually have lol - I'm not super enthused with the faction rule, but I can get over that; the units they showed off are all ones I'm not using so that's not particularly clarifying either... And we still have no indication if we can poach STD models or if they've added say... a Slaanesh Daemon Prince and/or Soulgrinder to the core list. So I feel like I know 5% more about my faction than I did yesterday lol Oh well, I'll just wait for the Index I guess to see what I'm doing.

I think the main feel bad offender here is the ability to use the temptation dice for charges. If the removed that from the list of options then a couple of auto wounds or auto saves is much less impactful and a reasonable trade.
Excellent thanks 👍 Gutted about the fiends but maybe they are really cheap now. Im trying to decide what army to paint next as almost finished my FEC. Either slaanesh, s 2 d, soulblight or nurgle, then i just have to work out of its aos or old world.... What a great time to be playing fantasy 😃
of all the big guys previewed shalaxi is one of the best, a monster in combat, but also tactically very good and challenging, really like it
Temptation dice is interesting, a duality of effects. I'd be curious if there was a faction specific secondary that gives a victory point for every temptation dice the enemy spent. I'd take that instead of inflicting wounds on a unit. That would be an interesting lore tie in.
People are so annoyed by giving your opponent a 12'' charge, but Slaanesh are insanely good at screening. You can almost pin the opponent into their deployment zone anyway, so they frequently have 3'' charges anyway.

I think they will do great
I'm putting stock in the Lord of Change being a wizard(3). Kairos is, feels odd that the non-named one wasn't. All other named unit wizards have the name cast at their generic counterparts other than Kroak, but even still he's pretty different from a regular Slann starmaster
The fiends could be pretty sweet screens to protect from the counter charge. They make enemy wizard worse and then if they get charged 50% chance they make them fight last is pretty nice,

It's all in their points. Because they cannot really hold an objective, and even if fighting first they do average damage. At 180 they won't see play, at 140, I'm tempted.
Really feels like they made the level of jepody for the slaness oppoent very low for a massive reward. With multiple dice as well can you save a mortal wound you take with another temptation dice ?
Very excited for Kruelboyz tomorrow. It looks like they have been split from Ironjawz and that combined with 4e being a full rewrite means that they can part from some of the poorer rules they released with. I imagine Dirty Tricks is out, mortals on 6’s is probably in (but maybe not as it does keep Beastskewer Killbow permanently kinda meh). My hope is they play into the “sneaky” aspect more with repositions or deep strike. A KZreadr said something about “teleporting away when charged to simulate fading into swamp mists” and I think that sounded interesting.
Honestly, I would probably not use the battle trait or only use it once a battle round. I cannot see myself ever giving more than 1

I'd use it, but there is no way I'd give 2 dice to my opponent unless I'm tabling him in the same turn.

Every time I see Slaanesh models they look better and better. Same models, but still luring me in.
Whoever made these new rules really hated Hedonites! The Fane on average killing at least one model from a unit to get a buff is a really steep tradeoff, especially after the brutal change to Temptation dice where they now feel like a debuff you take in exchange for your actual battle trait.
I would be ok with my opponent getting the temptation dice if it was more punishing for them. At it stands it’s only a 33% chance to take damage and the. It’s only another 33% to take significant damage which can be negated by wards. Not exactly a temptation and more like a sure thing. I would make it that if a unit uses a temptation dice they cannot benefit from command abilities will for the rest of the battle round. That Atleast takes away some of the problematic things they can do with them.
The fact that every other army get similar or even better bonuses from their traits and we need to give the enemy big bonuses in order to get ours is just insane. Also wr get the crit 2 hita but some other armies get such abikites just on their warascrolls and even get their own battle traits on top of it

We all laugh at "as good as a Lord of Change," but we are going to be really happy if DoT get a command trait and artefact that increases Power Level. Four casts would be nutty.

Yeah for sure, I sorta think that we will get an Endless Spell for that too.. maybe we could get a Lumineth situation with Level 4 Lords of Change since the Lumineth will be able to boost their Enlighteners to Level 4 Wizards.

This preview was really something, wasn't it? I mean, I think I understand what GW is going for, but, still, feels rough. Empower up to three of your units and give a poisoned gift to your opponent. Why poisoned? We'll, the smart AoS player will get a 12" charge and be happy, but the big brain Slaanesh player will smile at that thought. If you are not careful, Shalaxi is going to redeploy closer to you and charge you before you can use it. If you charge me, well, now my units are better and you risk striking last and being buried under a bucket of dice. It's a battle trait that goads your opponents into charging you (if they dare). You know they are going to save at least two dice for a charge (which you want), so only one dice for saves/wards. See? Big brain.

I know nothing about AoS but I’m excited by the minis. I’m definitely firmly in the camp of war games as simulations rather than games. Watching this makes me think the rules of AoS are very “gamey”. Is that a fair assumption?
I really want a N’kari model that looks like the Total War one.
So, if it's your turn and the two units facing each other have "strike last", you still go first right? So let's think this one through... a unit of 10 Twinsouls holds an objective. They are buffed by Shalaxi with "Excess of Violence" and "Damned Conduit" from the Fane which also triggers "The Ecstatic Throngs". The opposing unit has been given "strike last" by a Fiend unit. The Twinsouls do 40 attacks at +2/+3 then after all other combats they get another 40 attacks again +2/+3 before their opponent can attack... all either Crit(2 Hits) or Crit(Mortal). Nothing is standing up to that except Morathi and we all know she's broken

I understand everything is getting toned down but this and the gits battle traits I think aren't gonna be fun for whoever plays them cause some factions get some nice little things but gits there's a good chance they just won't have battle traits for a lot of the game and the slaanesh is just meh gotta buff my opponent if I want a battle trait
Probably the worst battle trait previewed yet. In no world would you ever give someone more than one dice. In most situations you probably just play without the battle trait period. Give someone box car charge in an edition with counter charge and battle tactics that require things to not be near you or require things to be living at the end of turn just seems like an auto loss. So auto losing almost every battle tactic shown so far for… exploding 6’s and a 33% to do next to no chip damage? Yeah this was not play tested at all. Hopefully they pull a deathguard and rewrite the entire army rule after 3 months because this awful.

As a Tzeentch player, I'd still rather play this than Tzeentch. It's good, just not as auto good as previous editions
Slaanesh's trait is "if you use me I give better buffs to your opponent than you". Looks like GW is following tradition of doing Slaanesh dirty....

They should change the temptation damage to a full D6 damage to outway the downside, excess is a b*tch. The old mechanic (btw is exactly the same for Spearhead) is way better imo.

I agree, i prefer the old/spearhead mechanic. If i play against anyone whos playing hedonites id offer to let them use that rule regardless of format.

The pattern has been order order chaos destruction death, so soulblight probably Friday (next Friday I'm guessing will be whichever chaos faction is last, I'm thinking slaves to darkness)

Where do you see the number of models in a unit? You mentioned that the Fiends have a unit size of 3, but I don't see that listed on the Warscroll. What am I missing?

With 4th coming it would be really nice to have a "tournament round up" type video where we talk about how to find and prepare for tournaments. I know you have done this in the past but an up to date one with the new edition would be appreciated.
I loved the temptation mechanic last edition, but this... this is just garbage, straight to the bin. To give 3 units crit2 and run&charge/shoot you give your opponent THREE 6's that can replace rolls instead of use before the roll like destiny dice. and each one is a 1/3 chance to cause d3 mortals? Honestly this benefits the opponent much more than the player.
Maybe you'll absolutely need to use Euphoric Killers to unlock stuff on other warscrolls? So, it's not meant as a bonus, just from the get go, but you can cash it in later. I doubt it, but I can always hope.
I didnt rwalize how much you cojld combo things. First i thought the excess buff felt weak and too good for gge opponent but im starting to come around. I realy hope dexcessa and synnes becomes actually usefull. They are suöpposed to be part of slaanesh but are so poop in aos3 ☹️
That battle trait is one of the worst rules I’ve ever seen GW print. The payoff is so bad for what the opponent gets that it’s actually made me a tad bit worried about 4th edition. Like orgors looked meh and gitz were underwhelming but this is almost like it was written by someone that doesn’t understand what important in the game. It’s as bad as Karios is good.
Almost as bad as Tzeentch, at least Slanesh has flavour in the faction, and the big demon looks like a better LOC. Gw really hates tzeentch players

I dont understand the big confusion about the d3 mortal dmg. I think it seems pretty clear. On a 1 nothing happens, on a 2 you do 1 mortal dmg. and the rest is normal d3 dmg. It's basicly just simplifying the the roll so you only have to do 1 dice roll instead of 2.

Problem is that 2+ on a D3 is 3,4,5 or 6. Both 1and 2 are considered a 1. So rolling a 1 or 2 does nothing as both are 1 on a d3. So you would never do 1 mortal, only 2 for a 3 or 4 and 3 for a 5 or 6

Just a reminder, worsening a hit roll from 3 to 4 is as effective as worsening it from 4 to 5.
I'm so confused rn. The battle traits suck, however the units are aight I guess. But then the spearhead uses a better set of battle traits. The best option is to just not use the core rule book battle traits. Guess Slaanesh is back on the shelf again
Honestly this was THE worst preview by far, if you use your own army rules to full potential your opponent gets a free 12 charge, in an edition where everybody has counter-charge availabe. Bravo GW design team. Bra-vo.

Agreed, a bonus or re-roll would be better than straight 6. If they really wanted straight 6 for thematic reasons, the mortal wounds should be guaranteed or a different system of punishment should be added (like mortals on 1-3, strike last on 4-6).
Also this is the least thematic and horrible new mechanic out of all the shown Chaos gods.
These battle traits are really dog water. It’s a shame because I love the models. Temptation rolls should be a d3 and on a 2+ you take mortals equal to the roll. Then you’re actually doing something to your opponent instead of giving them semi-free 6’s. Shame.
Shalaxi seemed so good… until you factor in temptation dice. I mean, she doesn’t fully remove a 4up save, and then you give the opponent the choice to ignore one attack per temptation dice you’ve given him ? So he trades 3 or 4 damage to a 1/3 chance of dealing back D3 ? In attrition war, that’s a no-brainer. Are you really coing to use your faction ability with Shalaxi on the field ? Man this faction ability is BAD.
Definitely worst army so far. Battle trait is atrocious. WTF they thinking heavy nerf. Fiends are ruined

On the war scroll in the video GW referred to Shalaxi as "themselves" not "herself"... "They" seems right! Although guessing the fictional dominatrix-esque, masochistic, paradox daemon probably doesn't mind too much - don't think it's wise to get hung up either way :D
