If someone is going to do a lot of winter/cold-weather camping it's advisable to try to insulate your tanks or even have the underbelly lined with a cover. The better you insulate the tanks the less battery power you'll drain from your batteries as the pads won't kick on as frequently. On the black & grey tanks I prefer to mount the pads closer to the discharge holes because that's usually where grease plugs will form in the cold, plus it radiates more heat toward the discharge plumbing which should also be wrapped.

You could join the 2 pads together and run 1 pair of wires forward to one switch. Fuse and guage wire accordingly. After all, you likely will be running both at the same time in most circumstances.

You're right 90% of the time, but one guy who installed these said that both tanks might not have water in them at the same time at the being of your RV trip and you can't run the pads with no water. I'm like you, I think I would just add 2 gallons in both tanks before each RV trip and run 1 pair of wires.

@@2badger2 Parallel only with their original individual wires. Some of these heater pads draw 10 amps or more. Each needs its own wires all the way to the power source and a fuse.

What I don't like about these heating pads is the built in thermostats which turn on at about 45 degrees and turn off at about 65 degrees. I wish the 2 temperatures were on 34 degrees and off 40 degrees. Maybe come with a inside cab thermostat with a temperature meter outside that you can set at turn on of 34 degrees and off of 45 degrees.

I agree, the temperature ranges on these pads are too high. An unnecessary waste of energy. I wonder about making my own heating pads from scratch...

Hi! Great solution, but..How many watts approximately the heating pad consumes? We have a solar set up, using solar generator, so we are worry about the constant power it needs.

Javid Farah honestly I have not used them enough to know how quickly they will drain the battery. I live in AZ so I just used them on the occasional cold camp trip. Maybe the manufacturer can tell you the wattage usage? Idk I’m sorry.

They draw too much current unless you have a very large solar set-up. Do your research before you commit.

Does the white wire from the pad need to be connected to the frame or to the negative side of the battery?

Either to the frame which is ground or to the battery negative.

Should it be getting hot feel warm but not hot should it be hot to the touch?

It will not be hot to the touch, touch them on a cold day and they will be mildly warm.

So have the pads performed well for you? Do they keep the tanks from freezing? Thanks, nice job.

I live in AZ so I don't typically camp in freezing temps. I traveled up north for work during a couple winter months which was the reason for installing the heat pads. For those couple months I didn't have any problems with freezing.

Why not use a 20 dollar oil pan heater.... Lot less hassle

Will not do you any good unless you could find a 12-volt version. Camping in the forest you would need 12 volts unless you want to listen to your generator run all night.

Those pads fun off DC power not AC power
