Facilitation Skills - How To Visualize Information
One of the essential facilitation skills and responsibilities of a facilitator is taking large amounts of information and visualizing it for the team or audience. Visualizing data can help your team better understand complex, unstructured, and abstract information. It will also help understand key messages, organize data, make everyone’s opinions heard, and provide more context for making decisions.
In this video, AJ&Smart CEO and Workshop Facilitator, Jonathan Courtney, shares his approach to receiving a lot of data before a workshop and how to visualize information.

@aj&smart do you have a video on items to have as a facilitator? Like sticky notes, dry erase markers etc?

Yes! It was great to hear someone else’s real experience. Actually, hearing about AJ&Smart’s real experiences would be great too!
Thinking of it as a hidden superpower of facilitators: Make complexity accessible by giving it structure and visualizing it. Thank you for pointing it out :-)

❤ this was extremely helpful! Wow, I will definitely be checking out your other videos.
This is exactly the type of content about the workshops I was looking for. Not too generic and yet quite simple to understand the effectiveness of the workshop practices. It is really motivating to learn more about facilitation, keep it up!

@@AJSmart It is very interesting to explore the "workshop templates" which are designed to find solutions for some specific problems. I found "Lightning Decision Jam" a very good starting point for me. Perhaps, it would be great to see the alternatives or different scenarios which required different templates. Another topic which seems interesting, is about co-design and co-creation. Apparently, those practices heavily rely on the methods of UX. It would be also interesting to see your perspective on this. Thanks!
Hey guys, I love what you do at AJ&Smart, I would like to add a bit on the recommendation on how to make it easier to visualize a ton of information. As Jonathan said, the first step would be to try to cluster the information in clusters or domain that make it easier to understand what kind of information is there. The next step, I'd suggest is to try to come up with some analogy or structure that could show the relationship between the domains, and if you are able to show visualize that relationships with arrows or drawings that will help a lot! I think that learning about mind mapping or visual thinking is a great way to complement facilitation skills! Ciao!

Thank you William! Glad you liked it.
Great content as ever. Unrelated but how are you getting on with the aligners? Seeing many more people (especially men) getting them so it’s brilliant to see. I start my 9 month course in a few weeks 👍🏻
I’ve heard Jonathan mention leadership retreats several times - this is a topic that interests me but I can’t find any videos, books or resources on what a leadership retreat might look like. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Yes, this video was helpful to see into the sessions.
