The Polo / Vivo are no longer value for money, I'd agree. Here is what I've paid over the years: 2008 Polo manual (entry level) - R189000.00 (stock equipment) 2014 Polo Highline (manual) - R239000.00 (stock equipment) 2017 Polo R line DSG - R299000.00 (before options) 2019 Polo GTI DSG - R398400.00 (before options) To replace my current GTI VW want R535000.00 (before options) Needless to say, I'm buying something else next time.

That engine is stellar👌🏾... But everything else about the Vivo feels stuck in the early 2010s. I don't know how to justify spending R250k+ on an entry model with manual mirror adjustments and rear windows. This is why Suzukis are increasing in appeal. I'd actually buy a Fronx over a Vivo_GT...🤔

Love the reviews ❤. And honestly will still stick to the larger and reputation built manufactures. Yeah, at the end you are paying for the badge and all the loyalty that goes with it..... And maybe Suzuki sounds tempting. Personally bought a suzuki and yes it maybe cheaper but the quality is definitely noticeable and the workmanship is no where in comparison to the traditional and reputable brands. That's just my 2 cents from a personal purchase. And I agree, the engine and the soft touch dashboard and feel is what makes a car. I'll still choose a VW, TOYOTA (!and not the redbadged Suzukis) anyway. It maybe more expensive but sometimes it's not about brand loyalty. I also had this mindset and it's only when you own a Suzuki that you start to appreciate your VW.s and Likes.... But Suzuki is a food buy..... but ill pass

Can you honestly compare VIVO GT with SUZUKI, Mazda 2🤷‍♂? I do agree with being pricey but is worth the look, style and legendary status. I had an option to buy latest polo, but the look didn't impress me, hence I could buy it again if given another chance.

  • @Mkhehla

@@mhlobo1 I agree. The Vivo GT has a legendary look to it. It's just that when you are using a car daily, little things make you wonder how much value you're actually deriving from it. I would buy a Vivo GT for the engine and the looks... But if I think of other features and conveniences, it starts to look like an unjustified spend.

Nice video, well balanced points. The Vivo is definitely a solid and reliable product, as it's an older platform that has been simplified and perfected over the years. BUT it's not a value & budget buy anymore... For a locally produced car, it costs more than imported models, that are bigger and more well specced and have better service and warranties... On price a Suzuki Baleno and even Fronx are better options, you can even get SUVs like Tiggo 4 pro, Grand Vitara, Corolla cross for similar money. As South Africans we need to get bang for our Randelas at this price point, especially when it's the first or only car in the household. 😊

@@bigbadwolf9513the Indian built Suzuki's are unfortunately not built to the same spec as Japanese units. Compare the euroncap crash tests of previous Swift with global NCAP photos. The deformation of the structure on the Indian version is far worse, due to missing reinforcements. It's the sad reality, corners are often cut on cars assembled exclusively for developing world markets. Panels included in the original design are stripped out to reduce cost, at the expense of safety (and for the most part buyers are totally unaware of this, as developing world markets tend not to do crash tests, and buyers are less savvy when it comes to vehicle safety).

VW has amortized the tooling on this car ages ago. It is merely just the sum of its part now. Why it costs so much just doesn't make sense as most of the parts are locally sourced. There are better options out there at that price range that offer more with updated safety - when this car was designed, the Euro crash standards were at a much lower level than today. I would love to see this car be tested today.

VW got the recipe right with this shape. It’s a very solid vehicle. That’s why they sell so well. If you drive it back to back with its competitors you will know immediately that you driving a better vehicle. The build quality is second to nun in its segment. All other vehicles in this segment rattle and make interior noise when you drive over something partial rutted. These little Vivos are very well put together. Where are the actual car people gone, you guys no nothing about cars and the driving dynamics.

Volkswagen has been taking the piss for years now. We had two Polos back in the 9n days. Ditched the brand because the value isn't there. We still have the 2007 Polo but only because its cheap to keep running because VW's popularity spawned a huge parts market for them (given VW tries to rob you on parts). As for safety, remember how VW had to be dragged kicking and screaming into ditching the old Chico because it's safety was non existent. That said a lot of brands are still only giving 2 airbags on entry levels and seem to prioritise spec over safety, probably says more about the market I guess.

It's very much a budget car based on features and the bare minimum it offers. VW is just taking advantage of ordinary South Africans who are loyal to the batch and not value for money. It's ridiculous because at that price, you can get a low mileage Polo Life at that price. It doesn't make sense anymore. The turbo engine alone isn't enough to justify that ridiculous price. Basically, the Polo Life has replaced the entry level golf and they're trying upgrade this to the TSI level.
