Face to Face with the Ayatollah

Jan. 20 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of 52 American hostages in Iran. "60 Minutes Overtime" returns to the early weeks of the crisis with Mike Wallace's famous interview of the Ayatollah Khomeini. Why famous? Would you call him a lunatic to his face?

As for the lavon affair i agree that was wrong, but its no different from the cia or kgb waging covert warfare on each others states. Was there any conflict between Shia and Sunni on Shea’s time?? If they want to preach their belief, they can do so as it is their right. But do it peacefully through dialogue. Their belief has been debunked when confronted. Iranians are beautiful people with much to offer.

This is one of the greatest interviews of all time. Mike Wallace was one the finest journalists this country has ever produced. He knew what to ask, when to ask it and he had guts. Most journalists today do not speak truth to power. They’re more interested in not jeopardizing their access than anything else. As for Ayatollah Khomeini, regardless of how one feels about the man and his regime, he was one of the 20th century’s most important and intelligent leaders. What he accomplished was no easy feat. The Shah was perhaps the most powerful ruler in the Middle East. No one could’ve foreseen the events that would unfold shortly after Carter’s famous “Island of Stability” speech. Not only did he mobilize the nation against the Shah’s regime but Iran under his leadership was able to withstand a nearly decade long war that began almost as soon as he took power.

The reformists are not the majority, the terrorists attacking targets in Iran are not the majority, the Shah's lackeys are a small diaspora of dissidents and opponents seeking economic opportunities not governing the country. Khomeini a great leader that i doubt because most Iranians lost their civil rights and the choice to live their lives as they saw fit. I have also learned that successful people can also have fear and doubts about their capability to do well in life and their career and endeavour.

If y’all listen carefully Imam is giving a precise and simple definition of pure Islam by pointing out the most important concepts of the Islamic faith; “1.Freedom of the woman and blacks will be given. 2.Women are given great dignity in Islam. 3.In return we ask nothing for the female and black prisoners freedom. 4.We are against war we are muslims we desire peace for all. 5.Islam protects the prisoner, our muslim students protect the prisoners. 6.Islam is humane” And most of all the simplicity and humbleness of his house, his attire, his lifestyle. I’m proud to call him my Imam and I’m more proud to be a shia muslim and a follower inshaAllah of Prophet Muhammad and Ahlulbayt and have such great shia muslim clerics and leaders like Imam Khomeini and Ayatollah Khamenaei and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah who represent the true and beautiful meanings of Islam. Such charisma.. such humbleness and bravery such aura and calmness this great man has you can tell he’s not like any of us! He deserves the title “Imam” with no doubts or discussions. RIP Imam Khomeini 🙏🏻♥️🇮🇷

"The nature of the regime is perhaps best revealed by the following example: A woman went to Khomeini's chosen heir and successor, Ayatollah Montazeri, complaining that her teenage daughter had been raped before being executed. She asked how this could have been done in the name of religion. The Ayatollah politely explained to her that the execution of a virgin is forbidden in Islam."
