Neck pickup with overdrive: Fender 3:15 Suhr 6:45 Also, came to hear the guitars but forgot about that and just listened to your playing for the rest of the vid. Very diverse.
What if I told you that Jack is my biggest youtube guitar inspiration...more so than Pete Thorn, Rabea Massaad, Phil X, and Greg Koch :) You rock dude! Tasty playing!
I think the „problem” with Suhr is the ML standards pickups. I had them in my Suhr but I just couldn’t bond with them. They are very mid heavy and when played clean it was hard to get that classic Fender sparkle. They worked great with crunchy/gainy tones but cleans were not very fenderish. I think they should try v63 (old name is ML classics). They are definitely less mid oriented and airy
Prefer the Fender for all tones. Fuller, more musical, and more harmonics. Greasier with gain, just has that tone. The Suhr is a little more flat.
Just purchased a 2014 Suhr Standard with Lollar Dirty Blonde Pickups = 50's Tone Heaven. I can now get my: SRV, David Gilmour, Nile Rodgers, & Mark Knopfler Tones. It made me: put my 78 Fender Stratocaster guitar - immediately Up for Sale. Suhr made Significant Improvements over the Fender. One Love from NYC.

It is literally a knockoff…a high end knockoff if they were a Chinese company people would be pooping on them. I don’t like PRS but at least he did his own thing.
Both guitars sounded great I thought the Fender sounded a little bit more warm to my ears but I'd be happy with either guitar... fantastic playing by the way...
Awesome man. Love this comparison. Awesome playing as well.🤘
I’d be amazed if you’re able to get 60-cycle hum from either of these guitars Jack seeing as you were in the UK and we don’t have 60-cycle mains power. 😜 Great demo as always though. 😃

Suhr has SSCII which eliminates 60 cycle hum apparently.
I much prefer the Fender, but I love strats. This Suhr sounds very good, but not like a strat and not like a guitar I would replace my strat with.
Both great guitars and they both suit you well, but the real treasure here is the playing. Always a pleasure, Jack.
The Strat seems to have more character. The Suhr sounds a bit sterile to me.

Gibson - PRS and Fender - Suhr. The differences in between both pairs a interestingly identical.

I’ve felt the same thing. Wonderfully built guitars... and I’ve had three... but dead sounding to me and had no breath. Took me three to learn, even when building one with vintagey specs like a six-point bridge.

Fender has a more coloured and less precise sound imo...
I like the fender more. It sounded like it covered a wider tonal range in the higher frequencies. Started to second guess myself towards the end though, with that sweet playing style with those high triads and vibrato on the Suhr.
First thing, congrats on being such an awesome player Second thing you seemed to play that strat with alot more mojo so it sounded better. The Suhr is obviously a great guitar, but id be feeling the custom shop fender all day
Both lovely... fender sounds sweeter
I prefer the sound of the Suhr, it has more authority to the sound.
Important to note that SH signature model pick ups are a bit hotter. Even Scott turns his tone down to 7-8. He loves super hot pick ups. Other thing to consider is that Scott is particular about his tone in how it sounds live with a full band. The extra bite and highs cut through any mix.
Good job as always👍
Fender is definitely richer across the board... Very hard to duplicate that sound and broad range, and obviously that what others are trying to do, right? The Suhr is a crisper sounding guitar, and if that's what you're looking for, it certainly does all that... I'm impressed! I've been pretty blessed to own electric and acoustic guitars that have a lot more to offer than I do as a player, but even so, I will grab the one that gives me the sound, tone, and harmonics I want for the particular song I want to sing. Oh, I'm a wannabee singer also, so there is that. Thank you for sharing!!!
Jesus, Jack! You made both sound heavenly. I’m a Suhr lover but that customshop really had a musical warmth that touched my soul.
They're different but both are awesome. If you want something a tad different than the classic strat tone without looking too much further... Take the Suhr. And that's it.
Both are sounding great. Anyway, I would prefer the Fender, for me, it has more charm or Mojo.
Both sound great in your hands, you should also share the gear info , Amp/pedal etc please
When you hit the overdrive (BTW what was that?), they both sounded great. But clean...Fender all the way...total vibe, body, warmth, and edge.
What was the pedal for for the dirty sounds? Sounds tubescream-y?
Suhr is my taste.
Fender is the winner for me!
Some of the Suhr sounds are awesome, every start sound was great.
Could you do Xotic XTC-1 vs Fender Custom Shop tele, like a Nocaster or 52 tele?
Frodo in jorts is my hero. Your Strat playing just blows me away!
Those peach guitar issue shorts need to be rethought.

so is the ridiculous hairstyles
Both sounded great. Do you ever run out of licks?!
I am curious how low do you set the action on the guitars you demo? is it the standard one (from factory?) or lower, more to 1mm?
awesome playing!
Both sound great, just two different tones. The fender has all the classic tone that makes it a fender. The Suhr has a more modern tone with a bit more bite. When I hear that tone out of the strap I instantly picture a Strat in my head and associated with that sound. So it’s a bit of a psychological thing too. The Suhr is a great guitar and I can see where it might be a tad more versatile as well. Strat through a clean amp or slightly overdriven and the Suhr for more overdriven tones.
This particular Fender CS can officially support the name, the looks and certainly the sound of what is known as Stratocaster.
I prefer the Fender but overall great playing total command of fretboard and many styles...Congrats!!!
A side by side tone comparison would be better, anyway, great playing as always!

I’d rather hear Jack play what he’s feeling instead. More entertaining for sure when these guitars are out of most people’s price range anyway. Just come for the playing as many do.
Good playing. Same amp and settings?
I have a suhr for the locking tuners and lack of string tree. It’s the most stable trem I’ve ever had as a result. That said the pickups sound a little thinner, and more scratchy (occasionally harsh above the 12th if I don’t watch my attack). Can I order Fender CS with locking tuners and no string tree??

@@derickalbert thanks man - I’m cursed with being a lefty so nigh on impossible to find certain models but love that one! Respect
Suhr ❤️
Suhr, Tom Anderson, Nash, etc. should invent their own body styles, pickup configurations, and control designs. Maybe it’s just me, but I could never play an “S style” guitar. If it’s a Strat it should be a Fender.

Very true, it's my opinion as well
What a monster, beautiful fender.
The clean tones out of the Suhr seemed a bit thicker to my ears. Liked it better...
The Fender has more of that classic tone and definitely wins hands down for the cleaner tones, but that Suhr had its own thing going for the gained up tones. It sounded huge.
damn....whats that rig/pedal setup..?
I am a keyboard player, so keep that in mind when reading my comment. To my ears Fender has a more vintage vibe, great for overdriven and fuzz tones. That Fender wants a plexi or an orange , great for dirty tones. I think Suhr has a great definition, open clean sound, great for cleans and pick ups have higher headroom i guess, And I really love modern crunch sound Suhr produces, if I had budget I would buy both.
What amp/pedals? Suhr is a workhorse: no hum (live In an area with power issues and need a brown box), stays in tune, and the SH bridge is already modded to work. Imagine the SH is pretty close to what suhr made for Jeff Beck when he was with fender? But looking for a classic strat with those SRV and Hendrix tones and that strat fits then bill. Heavy strings timed to Eb. Gnarly sounding tomatillo pickups! Nice playing man!
So my opinion may be a different from others. I thought the Suhr sounded more like an old Fender. It had a warmer woody tone which old guitars have. The Fender sounded bright and sparkly like a spanking new guitar with modern sounding tone signature.
Nice legs!!! ;} Seriously though, love this channel and your playing, keep up the great work......

And here I thought British boys wore short trousers until they were seven, and then never again...
It looks like the Suhr was run with the trem floating and the Fender with the trem decked? Might explain some of the tonal differences?
@nicholastotoro7721
4 жыл бұрын
Both are floating. The Fender bridge is just more subtle, like 1/8th” or so. Part of the Henderson specs have the bridge jacked up like a cat in heat.
both win. sick licks jack.
What’s a more significant contribution to sound of a guitar, pick ups or the wood?

Ive just bought a custom shop strat and I'd say both pickups and the wood/build quality. I'm using my other USA and Mexican strats as comparison
Is that CS Strat color "Faded Blue Jorts"?
Fender. Suhr is powerful but misses the Strat character.

Yeah it's true !! I am not a fanboy, i like others guitars too.. But there's no way a suhr or a G&L or others brands catch fender character like you said! It's also strange 😂

Are you sure that Stratocaster is ocean turquoise? Looks like lake placid blue to me ;-)
May there be better guitars than Fender technically (Suhr, MM, ...) for me it's always the Fender Strat that sounds like the real deal.
Please disclose the Amps and pedals used in the video! Monster tone from both guitars!
Just purchased a 2022 fender american professional ii
I liked the Fender better & I own 3 Suhr guitars which are all excellent. One is a Suhr Pro Series S with classic ML’s & its a warm excellent Stat!
I have had both and kept my Fender CS Strat. Had a Suhr classic “S”. I never measured the body but the Suhr body felt bigger and thicker than the Fender. Also the Suhr has stainless steel frets that take getting used to. The Suhr also felt too perfect if that makes sense. One of the things that people say about them is they are all perfect and that may be the case but in my mind that means they are all the same. While looking for my Suhr they all seemed to be in the 8lb range too so a bit heavier than a CS Fender. For my taste I’ll keep my Fender. But Pete Thorn and Ian Thornley seem to make the Suhr work - and they are Monster Players !!

Steve Brady well said, I agree. It’s weird how heavy and big the suhr guitars feel too me. I fell into the hype and almost ordered one awhile back until I had the chance to play a bunch and changed my mind quick. Nothing wrong, just not the guitar for me.

Steve Brady Dont forget Mateus Asato who REALLY make the Suhr work 👍
Both great guitars and way good demo. No surprise, the strat sounded more stratty, but the suhr wasn't exactly bad . I've had a couple of cs strats and they made way for other stuff. Never had a suhr, mibbee time?
Beginner question - How do you access the truss rod on the fender custom shop?

I really liked both guitars... but I feel like the Strat had the edge on the tone in this video
prefer to, fender, much clearer the sound !! a hug from Brazil.
They dont sound to be setup the same. Suhr sounds like it has has lower string height and possibly straighter neck . I really ove the extra clarity while distorted . Also I saw Scott live last week so I might be biased😁
I'd have to agree with Trevor. I like the Suhr tone, but over all the Fender takes it.
Surprisingly different. I’d take the suhr but the fender did sound more, I dunno, authentic? Vintage? I think the best strat tone recorded is Scott Henderson’s tore down house
Where can one go to hear this type of music? All these youtubers have great songs to plsy.
They sound very different. The strat has that well known bell-like sound. Suhr sounds thicker. I guess it’s all up to one’s preference. But good lord, that blue strat looks gorgeous! What’s the exact model and colour?
I hate to admit it..buti i still go with the Fender.i just need that proprietary hum cancelling circuit of the Suhr and im good to go
Amp?
Some squire would sound good as well. Squishy glassy sound, no big deal
fender cs for the win
I get the Face/Off reference
The Suhr is easier to play, holds tune better and has those SS frets and if you don’t like the sound you can buy pickups and still save money over a custom shop strat
They are booth great guitars just different. As they should be. Fender for me.
The Fender is definitely more mellow and has a breathing quality, the Suhr sounds great also but , is a little harder sounding and more Aggressive, I’ve owned many Strats and 6 Suhrs and have gone back to Custom Shop Strats , More Tone and Lighter . Both are excellent Guitars
@jeffmazzei8520
4 жыл бұрын
Also the wood , the lighter the guitar the more it’s going to vibrate, lacquer finish another factor, Vintage Strat and Les Pauls from 50s we’re light, but both great Guitars , still take the Strat
fender sound better to me.. excellent shred man!
Suhr tiene un sonido más redondo bacano 💪🏽 pero me gusto más la fender más definido 👍🏽
Definitely the F. But that's my long time problem with Suhr, always loved how they play and look, never liked the way they sound.
Fender Sounds Better and Juicier in General, But Playability and Cutting through a Band Mix are another issue, so without playing them it’s still a toss up...I’m mostly a Gibson and/or strictly a Tele(not necessarily fender)Guy but I’m on a Perfect Strat Hunt....The Fender sounds more like One I’d Go For in the Long Run
Love both. Have both. The Suhr wins because of the stainless frets. Not that I don’t like nickel I just wear them out quickly. Really wish Fender and Gibson would offer stainless frets for those of us who wear nickel out so fast.

Roscoe p Coltrane not to mention the contoured heel! Fenders neck joints are so dumb... there’s no reason for it to be so uncomfortable! I bought an American pro strat a year ago, and after 8 months it needed a level and crown. SS frets are a no brainer!

Spencer Bladyka I totally agree. I’ve got two strats that need a refret and a Les Paul. One of the strats has had a refret but I think he used the softest frets made because it didn’t take long before they needed to be leveled and crowned. I’ve had two level and crown jobs done on it and now it needs frets again.
I prefer the Fender strat

Fender!!!! En esta comparacion
Why limit it to only Suhr? don't you retail the Vigier Classic rock? or the Expert series? 54, 63 and Texas blues? they all are Strat style type of guitars that easily compete with the best. Equipped with DiMarzio pups. I checked your website, and you do have a Vigier Expert Classic Rock in retro white which is totally gorgeous!!! I don't know much about "amber" pickups though, but I trust Vigier. I am sure those are top notch. Next time you do a side by side comparison, please get that Classic Rock a spin. It really deserves it. Vigier is an obscure brand, but they really make quality instruments. Here in the USA shops mostly stock the Shawn Lane, and nothing else.
Why do none of these comparisons ever give you a quick A/B between setups? I had to retain the sound of the strat *in my head* for 2 minutes before I heard the Suhr. It’s impossible to get an real idea of the differences unless you A/B them in chunks. I had to skip back and forth in your video just to hear the difference side by side and even then, I would never land on identical setups. In the future, can you do something like: clean neck Strat then clean neck Suhr then clean bridge Strat closely followed by clean bridge Suhr and so on? It’s not like it’s hard to do (much less watchable but far more useful).
He plays pretty good. Hope he's recording his own tunes.
Get Jeff Beck to demo those guitars or Scott Henderson
Which one felt better to play, which one made you feel great playing her (you didn't want to put down)..this is probably more important than the tone between these two guitars 🎸

Hands down Suhr for me for the sound..
I‘d take the Suhr...but the price point...
not much use in my playing for a distorted stringy mess of a tone[ some call it sparkle]... way too thin, but I get it when ppl need it.
Fender
killer player...wow
Nice shorts...😂 Anyways I have a Fender Elite which i love the feel and tone...i have tired several CS and Suhr. To justify the cost being 2k-3k more. No thanks!!!
This Henderson model sounds better than most Suhr's I hear
They both sound amazing but the Strat sounds more like a Strat. Easy choice for me.
The Suhr fretboard looks drier than a desert wtf
