Fabricating Stanchions, Deck Work Continues! - Emerald Isle: Ep.93 Fishing Boat Refit

Welcome back, folks! Today, we're cutting and welding our stanchions for our false deck. Stanchions are the support brackets that mount the stringers to the fiberglass deck. They'll have a 3/8 Lag screw sealed with 5200 calk which also provides excellent bonding to the deck. Things are coming along and we are super excited to make headway on the deck.
We want to say a big thank you to our Patrons and all others who have sent us gifts or have purchased our seafood. Also to all you viewers who have watched, liked, subscribed, and commented on our videos. You all make us so happy and proud to share our way of life with you.
In this series, you'll find us doing many different things to refit the boat. From framing and fiberglassing to fabrication and welding.

Len and Matt you guys never fail to impress me with the logical and sensible way of overcoming a problem, having the deck level on boards will also help spread the load over the stanchions especially when hauling in those monster fish and crabs whilst flushing excess water away through the scuppers. Excellent work men.

You guys work really well together. I’ve always found that when I’m working with pleasant people, the work is light and enjoyable and the time passes quickly.

I’ve replaced the drill bit in a hole saw with 1/4 rod or the end of a long drill bit when doing similar drilling. The rod isn’t likely to snap off like a drill bit Looking nice can’t wait to see it fish

Quick question Len. Could you have stacked say 4 or 5 of them up on the drill press with a clamp. I have done that before. Just a thought. I fully get the false deck now!! I can’t wait to see you all doing your fishery’s on the Emerald Isle!!!! Eric

Are you going to drill drain holes for the pipe since it is open to bolt down. Otherwise they will eventually fill up with water

We drilled a hole in the base of each stand for water drainage, that's definitely always a concern up here! It's definitely coming along!
