Hello Alvin. Very nice work on that quarter panel. I agree that a proper fitting fender skirt is important. Enjoy your trip to Mexico, be safe amigo. George B

Hi George, those fenders skirts have been an awesome template for this project, I'm glad I have them, they sure do provide a clear picture of the rear quarter panels. Looking forward to the trip, this time it is a new spot for me, I've been to many places in Mexico...nice to experience somewhere new. 😊

Thank you John! I'm looking forward to a rust free body, and that is getting closer. 😊 I haven't been counting, but it did hit me the other day, that the day will come, and no more rust repair...it felt a little odd. Lol

Excellent work!! I have some disheartening rust in my C pillars from water getting under the vinyl top....I did find a body and paint man in Springfield Oregon, so I hope that this summer I will have the old girl up and running so I can get it into repair.

Oh no, I hope that doesn't turn into a major project, and your body guy can patch it up easily. 👍

Another informative video. On the sanding discs, sometimes you can put two on the tool 90 apart to make them flatter.

Thank you Michael. 🙂 That does work, once I was able to get them flat enough without them splitting, I was heating them up with a torch to keep them from splitting...but overall, I say just send them back.

I'm a Jonny come lately but have been catching up on the convertible bird, and want to say you are amazing to watch with your capabilities. My love for convertibles is not as strong as yours. I might have bailed when the carpet came out but when your in it you can't quit . Be happy to see you drive it. I rebuilt a motor for my 64 bird, white exterior, red interior and loved it. When I got to the rocker arms I I put in new shafts and replaced a few of the rockers bushings along with new lifters. I ran a wire through the pushrods to remove old residue from oil. When the motor came to life there was no pecking or ticking. My bird was a hardtop. The car prior to the bird was a 62 galaxy 500 xl convertible with bucket seats and center console w power steering, no air which I would have enjoyed. Are you going to add air to yours? Your metal work is amazing.

Thank you Johnny! Yes, my convertible was in bad condition, since it was all ready to go through the crusher when I found it, I figured, anything I do to it would be better than crushing it... even if I parted it out, at least others would benefit. I haven't been planning to put it in an A/C, we only get about two months of temperatures each year, that Ac would even be used.

I kind of wish you were installing a classic sheet metal quarter panel.. i really want to see how the fit and finish is before i order one.

I haven't had much luck with after market panels, not saying they are all bad, but be prepared to make "adjustments". When I started the T-bird repairs, I decided to learn how to make the repairs without buying after market panels.

@@J_R_Shop i figured.. and you also have the skill and talent to fabricate your own patches. So its a little unnecessary. I got the trunk panels and battery tray from them. The sheet metal is good. 19 gauge i think. But definite extra fitting has been required.

Hiya Alvin! I’m not sure what those discs are made of on the back, but I was wondering if you can put them in boiling water to relax the curl, and then clamp them on a flat surface as they cool. Just a thought, I could be wrong. That fender is looking great!! Your definitely braver than I. There’s no way I’ll step foot in Mexico the way things are going right now. The Army never let us cross the border, and I was fine with that. Primarily because you can bring your firearms. So just keep your head on a swivel, and I hope you have a great time!

Hey Troy, the disc backing is supposed to be fiber resin, but very fragile. I have been heating them with a heat gun as I need them, seems to get them to the point of usable...I only have a few left, and I like your idea, gonna give it a try. 👍 As far as Mexico, I've been going there since the early 80's, never had an issue...I did however have a gun pulled on me in Daytona, Florida years ago. I know if I go to some areas in Mexico, I could easily get into trouble, the same way I avoid going to high crime areas in the US, so it's all good. 😊

You may be right, but i don't have a new panel, and I'm not going to pay for some poorly made after market junk, that I have to spend hours modifying to make it fit.
