The first movement is one of best in all of baroque music - I love the way the lead instruments challenge each other, like a chase. Biondi is a master of this stuff. I finally know what "in tromba marina" means.

Do you have Fabio's Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin? Masterpiece. It's here on KZread as well. I am a mandolin player. I love the mandolin players in this concerto. I'd love to have such a baroque mandolin, but since they cost plus $1,000 for even a moderate one I just can't afford one.

De lo más soberbio que he visto interpretando a Vivaldi : dos violines en tromba marina , un oboe , dos flautas dulces, dos mandolinas, dos salmoe, dos theorbos, un violoncello, cuerdas & b.c. Bravo Fabio Biondi ídolo !!!

Parabéns, maestro Biondi! Vivaldi é o maior compositor de todos os tempos. Por uns tempos, fingiram não saber de Vivaldi para saquear suas obras, mas muitas ficaram bem guardadas. Também não há nenhuma prova de casos amorosos e isso nem interessa, a não ser ao bispo!. Algumas lendas, mentiras e fofocas dão a pista ainda hoje do quanto Vivaldi foi e é celebridade e sucesso absoluto. Bravo, bravíssimo Vivaldi

Ma è magnifica! La spiegazione poi assolutamente "coinvolgente", ti porta "dentro " il brano. Io invece sono in forza fino a venerdì 16 dicembre, dopodiché in ferie fino al 31 dicembre e poi ufficialmente " disoccupata". Dedicherò il mio tempo per fare "il pieno " di montagna, camminata aria pura, visioni uniche. Con il mio abbigliamento e i mie scarponcini! Non vedo l'ora. Ciao caro Beppe, e grazie ancora per queste chicche bellissime! Bravi bravi bravi!!!

Its fabio biondis interpretation of what vivaldi meant by "violin in tromba marina". No one knows for sure, but its likely he had violins altered by having something added to the bridge to make a raucous buzzing sound.

I bought the CD and was very disappointed. I prefer the audio quality on this video, it's much brighter and you can hear all of the instruments clearly. The CD is muddy.

I think that depends on the speakers on your CD player, not the CD.

No. To imitate the brassy sound of tromba marina - a baroque instrument which this concerto was originally written for.

@@grm7237 Not quite, it was written for violin, but imitating the sound of the tromba marina ("violino in tromba marina"), a 1-string instrument in which this piece could not be played.

It’s extremely interesting that they have chosen to imitate the instrument, though. It’s believed to be an invention of Vivaldi, but from what we know, no “violin in tromba marina” has survived, and no sufficient instructions on how to make one have, either. I think, though, that they have done a great job, and maybe this is what Vivaldi had imagined!

They should probably have added a small portable pipe organ to the mix. As this was usual at the time for tuning. Wonderful!
