FAA Investigation thanks to Facebook video I posted with my Airplane & Drone (Thanks Drone Police!)
Ойын-сауық
First and foremost, I know not all Drone Pilots (I am one) are running around reporting everyone making peoples lives miserable. I also understand why some make sure everyone is playing by the rules (The rules where forced on them, they have to abide by them, so should everyone else). I just think this situation could have been handled differently. It ended well but a simple question about Frame Rate on a Video I posted to a DJI Drone Facebook page where I made a Joke about flying both at the same time lead to an interesting (but educational) conversation with the Local FAA FSDO (Flight Standards District Office). This Video is a friendly reminder that anyone, anywhere can report something they don't like to the FAA and the FAA is obligated to investigate it. Fly Safe!

In the EU they can and have revoked driving licenses for drunken riding a bicycle. Which really sucks even more if you're a bus driver or a trucker. So the principle doesn't surprise me. That said, I'm glad the FAA would investigate if someone did something actually stupid and reckless and posted it on youtube. I also think real drone enthousiasts would think two times before reporting 'apparently dangerous drone pilots' to the FAA. I loved landing exactly the way you did in your video, come in high and then drop down fast (under good control) and then flare. That landing looks awesome and brought back a memory I hadn’t thought of for a long time - so thank you for that! Here’s the story in case any one wants to know more. The first time I flew (I was just a passenger) was with my college boyfriend and we were in his dad’s little Cessna tail dragger. We were landing at his parents’ private field that had a telephone line right at the end of the short runway. So he had to stay high enuf to get over that and then really slip it in to get us on the ground. I knew nothing about this procedure and was terrified!! Looking back on it now I realize how much fun it was and that he was a good pilot 👏 👏 👏. (He’s flying for a big commercial airline now.)
Great shot and great flying from both. Nice to see the FAA doing thier job though cause there are MANY loose canon drone pilots out there.
Thanks for sharing your experience, as a drone pilot myself from a photography perspective, just a beautiful shot. Unfortunately there are a lot of new technologies changing things. You’re a pilot so it is par for the course for you, but very rarely would a situation like what happen for a normal drone pilot. I can totally see why it would raise some eyebrows. Glad you were able to get it straightened out without much trouble.
I have to say, as a private instrument pilot and a part 107 pilot great video. when i saw what you posted it made me jump and my first thought was (he was too close). after watching your video all I can say is GREAT SHOT!!! you went by the rules, that is how I fly too. There are a lot of rogue drone pilots out there and they do pose a hazard. You did it right and thanks for explaining how you did it.

If he had included the details about how he set up the shot in the FB-post he would have saved him all the trouble, and reduced the risk of some random droneowner trying to replicate the shot without asking the pilot...

You are correct about rogue drone pilots. Unfortunately ignorant or criminal people do not obey laws and never will. Sadly the government would sooner regulate an entire sport out of existence than admit that.

@sramz100 I agree to a point. There is no reason not to get a part 107 license. All it really means is that you have a comprehensive understanding of the regulations regarding drone flight.

@@henrywight4057 I have no problem with part 107. I do have a problem with my drone being in the same class as a 50 lb drone because it's 50 grams too heavy and being required to retrofit remote ID so drone haters can track me. This is required by the same agency that allows an untrained and unlicensed pilot to fly a home built ultralight over my house.
Thanks for sharing your informative story.
Thats pretty crazy story. People just feel its there job to control you.
Drone pilot here. Love big machine content in general too. Drone pilots get heated about rulefollowing because we don’t want to draw fire from the FAA. *Any* time someone does something stupid with a drone, it gives the government ammunition to restrict drone pilots more. The hobby is very much at risk, and people get mad when they think someone might be giving a bad image. Edit: I think that’s all really dumb and that’s a super cool shot.

The hobby is already dead. It died once drone licenses became a thing.

Agreed. I remember around 2018 witnessing the wholesale rush towards overregulation by people who seem to get off on being the most obedient to the rules. "Why do you need to be at 400ft? Who needs to even be up that high??" I lost all respect for the drone community when I realized these people were falling all over themselves to give away what meager flight operations they had been approved for by the FAA.@@bryans8895

So raising the number of drone complaints to the FAA is the way to make the FAA not mind drones as much? The people who make these rules and laws specifically look at the number of complaints when deciding to ban drones. The person who made the complaint needs to be named and shamed.
Beautiful video clip by the way. No need to apologize - to anyone. Although, it was big of you to be concerned about what the FAA is "required" to investigate. The world is much, much different now. When I was growing up in the '70's, and joking around and someone had a problem with the jokes, we said "f*-em if they can't take a joke". I suppose it might be of benefit to put up a text disclaimer that "no pilots, planes, or drones were injured during the recording of this video". Thanks for the PSA!
What a nightmare. Love you videos, wishing you the best.

That’s scary when your hobby starts to have potential consequences with your day job! People are basically crazy 😀. I am going to vinyl wrap my experimental airplane, so I posted a question on a vinyl wrap fb group. These people did not answer my question, but instead, started preaching about FAA rules and regs… stuff they had NO idea what they were talking about. Lesson learned!

@@Bananasssssssss Hey also, goodluck on your new job.
I loved the shot with the music from the KZread short. It's crazy that someone went to the effort of making an official complaint. Negging someone on a forum/reddit is one thing, but taking up a level to formal complaint is nuts. I agree, the drone guys can be super "goody two shoes", but i think this comes from the fact that so many drone "pilots" are actually doing the wrong thing, and no-one wants their hobby banned or whatever because some moron is breaking the rules.
