I just rebuilt my fa20, have lifter tap and I’m no mechanic but my assumption is I miss placed the shims and might have displaced the clearance. I started having the issue I want to say around 80-90 miles I have roughly 130miles now.

Do you know what clearances you set the lash to? Edit: Oh sorry, yes if you’ve misplaced the shims you’ll have too much lash.

Sorry just wondering what actually adjusts the clearances. Is the the shims on top of the valve springs? And where do you get those?

No dramas - Correct, it's the shims and you can order different sizes from your local dealership.

Hey! On the FA20 in the BRZ, the clearances need to be between Inlet 0.10-0.16 mm (cold) and Exhaust 0.21-0.27mm (cold). We have a worksheet to help when setting up the valves here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ld78m5UFX5meDGyf2uukR9JtfcJP9cHZLUvrdrSbaMA/edit?usp=sharing

Not quite sure if the inlet and exhaust side use different size shims. But if they do they most likely got mixed up.

Yep, clearances are different between intake and exhaust so depending on your setup you’ll need to use different shims accordingly. 👍

May i know whats the clearance inlet and exuast (lifter have no valve)

Hey Jijesh, FA20 valve clearances should be INLET 0.10 mm - 0.16 mm and EXHAUST 0.21 mm - 0.27 mm (cold). We prefer to run on the looser side to ensure the valve seals properly. Let us know if you have any other questions.
