Good luck (from a Leeds fan). The best thing that could happen for the sake of the FA Cup is for Coventry to beat both Manchester clubs and win the FA Cup again.

It had happened so many times. Wolves fans in 1981 spilled over onto the pitch. Even back in the 'no such thing as safety' era of the 50s, Newcastle fans recalled passing out at that end at a cup semi final.

yeah, it overspilled in the 81 SF, because no police were there. 6 yrs later, the cops ensured they were trapped animals.

From a neutral's point of view, I don't think there has ever been a better and more entertaining FA Cup run that Coventry's in 1987. After beating Bolton they turned over Man Utd away, won at a packed Victoria ground at a Stoke side who were red hot at the time, then took 15k to Hillsborough to beat Sheff Wed, before returning there for this classic. Then of course they won a final for the ages.

Leeds were in the 2nd tier (shocker) and Coventry were top half 1st tier. Not really a shock result

I keep looking at that terrace and still feel terrified....

What a team Coventry had in 1987 ! I hope they win again today, just 1 hour til kick off.

The warning signs were there regarding safety at the away end of the ground .

The feature that stands out the most for me is the terracing on the Leppings Land end particulalry behind the goal. Absolutely rammed and you can't really pick out individuals in that section. How did they not seen '89 coming?....

Brilliant footage. MCFC fan here, 51 years of going, Wembley would be absolutely fantastic completely clad in sky blue this year. The very best of luck tomorrow, please beat those hanging rags. 1987 FA Cup semi final at hillsborugh and that years final were 2 of the most exciting games in FA Cup history. Coventry had a very good team back then. Great to see Dave Bennett win his medal after the heartbreak of losing in 1981. A proper Manchester lad, coming from Moss Side, a stones throw from our old ground Maine Road.

@@bobstermaher he came through our youth system in the late 1970’s, one of the first black players alongside Roger Palmer, very talented player who took loads of racist shit, still loved by Manchester City supporters

I remember having to listen to this game on radio 5 live because the bbc or itv television channel didn't show it. But just before this match was finishing ITV showed the game between Spurs and Watford. They showed the highlights later on the Leeds game.

Micky gynn scored against us at stoke in the fifth round , that was a massive crowd fer stoke back then ! I was there!

The legend that was John Sillett. What a great guy he was.

I was there as a leeds fan. Coventry's turn to feel the gut wrenching emotions of a cup final semi! To be fair Coventry were robbed in my opinion and 100% deserved to beat manu.
